Title: Protecting LTC by bringing extra Hashing Power in
Post by: 237 on July 25, 2012, 08:39:49 PM
Hi LTCers,
sadly i can only post in the newbie section.

With the next difficulty change, which should be in about 30, mins i will bring in 2MH/s and will keep
it up at least 7 days. Of course this is in response to the threats to the blockchain.

I know, that 2MH/s isnt really much, but until now i mined LTC with 300kh/s and to get the hashing
power i have now, i had to persuade some friends, who now cant play their games for a week :p.

I hope others will join in.

If you have any extra hashing power available, please join me and protect the chain.
If LTC survives this, it will prove its trustworthiness.

It's my opinion that every bit counts if BCX goes through with his attack.

Of course you should be solo mining, since the pools can really easy be DDOS'ed, as we have seen with notroll.in and
litecoinpool.org

thank you
I have prepared to switch the rest of my miners over and know quite a few others that have said they will too if the "attack" actually eventuates :)
we might drive difficulty up, but I'd rather that than high difficulty and a forked chain
cheers
Graet

Thats great Graet.

Since BCX wants to drive up diff. regardless, we can do it for him.
That way, at least it can be sustained by honest miners.

I don't have a clue about litecoin mining, what does say 1gh convert to in ltc mining?

Thank you OP. 1GH converts to roughly 1Mh/s. Probably a little less.

Done. Two 5850's and one CPU, all solo mining on cgminer's.

My two 5850's are listed for Reaper & CGMiner with info in the note section. So is my i3-2100 is listed as well.

If anyone has not edited the wiki with your hardware, please do so for others to see.

I'm switching my 8GHash Bitcoin Mining to Litecoin Network for 7 days or more.
Alot of 5870, 5970 and 7970 and some CPUs too! aheUHAUEHAE
Lets fight this bitch with good energy!  lol

Will the attack just show up as an increase in the current difficulty?  Can we see that the attack is underway?

it is not scheduled to commence until Friday :)

Good stuff ThiagoCMC :D

WOW.
i didn't expect that fast of an answer.

New diff. is 8.36768,
and network hashing power is 0.27434GH/s
according to allchains.info

We have to stand as a strong community against this. We can fend this off.

Mining ltc with 2x6850 = 400khs.. not mutch but still something :)

He stated, that he wants to start building the fork really soon --> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=95116.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=95116.0)

So even if we increase the hashpower now it will help fending off the attack. + now some pools are still up.

Maybe you should enable merged mining so miners can mine Litecoins without losing out on Bitcoins...  ;D

That is not possible Luke-Jr, since LTC and BTC use different hashing algorithms.

But keep those KH/s coming. We already have a nice little bit extra ;)

sure provide the miner that merge mines scrypt and sha256 blockchains elegantly.....

Sure it's possible. Just accept SHA256 merged mining. ;D

But seriously, I was joking. I'd get my FPGAs merge-mining empty blocks if Litecoin did this. :P

I'll try to do that at least on my local rig, about 550 khps, but the other rigs aren't configurable by me right now. And, litecoin mining is the same or more profitable than BTC mining right now.

Done! Added 3.5MH to Litecoin Network...
All my Bitcoin rigs are down now, for a entire week, at least...

Cheers!

I am doing what I can. I'm a low ender.. CPU miner but hey.. The more and more I watch this unfold via this forum and BTC-E I support the efforts of Litecoin. I won't make much nor will I have much to show in the end with the harsh use of hardware. but it's something.

I have converted my 8Gh/BTC to 8Mh/LTC few weeks ago.  Mining LTC has been more profitable then BTC for few weeks already, almost 2:1... although the difficulty is rising...

I have switched solo for the next few days.  If you have significant amount of processing power, you should mine solo as pools may fall under DDOS attack and go down, thus excluding you from the network.
