The software setup file is pretty small.
But if you are talking about the blockchain file, in my PC it's 33.1GB.

The wallet is self (.exe etc ... ) is small but once you run it it starts synchronizing with the network and downloading the blockchain file which should take more then 30GB .

For day-to-day use, you can just install lightweight wallet like mutibit. It has got faster start time and very little hdd space demand.

you can just buy a bigger ssd and resolve the problem completely, or put it in an external hdd

you need a ssd to sync it faster

You can download bootstrap.dat using torrent and place it in your core wallet data folder.

use some light-weight wallet(electrum) or online wallet(blockchain) it's more convenient.

Unless you are a developer, want to help the network or just want to use the features in Bitcoin Core, a lightweight client would do the job of sending and receiving Bitcoin just fine. Make sure that the lightweight client that you are going to use is opensourced though.

while it is 31 GB right now you have to keep in mind that the blockchain size will grow over time, soon we are looking at 40 GB and more.
if you have a problem with this size like me, you can choose a lightweight wallet like Electrum or multibit

This.

From https://btc.blockr.io/charts, the blockchain size is growing at roughly 56MB a day (~140 blocks a day * ~400KB average block size), so you should prepare to see the size go up 20 GB a year.

The space should be reduced once blockchain pruning is implemented. With data storage technologies being advanced at a fast rate, HDD are relatively cheap now, it is possible to get 1TB HDD at less than $100.

the size of bitcoin chain will be increasing even after all the bitcoins are mined. 8) it would be like 120gb+ lol

chain size is not releated to total bitcoin supply.

it's related with the "transaction count" and tx sizes.

it doesn't matter the cost of Hard disk, i currently own a 1TB HDD, but i do not want to waste 30 GB (and growing) of my space on blockchain while i can use a smaller sized wallet, i mean light wallets, or even better a paper wallet

that is the best hint for any newbie in my opinion. Download bitcoin history quicker from a torrent, then update the reminder and you are ready to go.
Size of the blockchain is huge, but it will grow slower than the capacity of the hard disks. Nothing to worry.
