Title: Mining Recommendations for 1300W and 1000W PSUs
Post by: CerebralEdge on February 14, 2015, 05:31:52 AM
Hey everyone,

I'm looking at replacing my scrypt miners with new units for SHA-256.

I have available a 1300W EVGA and a 1000W EVGA power supply both Gold Rated.

Currently I'm looking at the 3 x SP20's for $1195.

Is it cool to run 2x SP20's on the 1300W power supply when underclocked?

I'm hoping to run 2 off the 1300W PSU and maximize the hashrate for the remaining unit within the other 1000W PSU.

Would the Antminer S5's be better? I'd like to maximize perf./watt.

You've got a rather annoying combination which is tight whichever way you arrange things, but yeah that should be doable with 600W pre PSU per SP20.

dogie is correct  you can do 2 sp20's at 600 watts each on the evga

and do 1 sp20 at 800 wats on the 1000 watter.

this miner is doing 597 watts  I run 2 on an evga  1300 g2 pulls about 1205 watts for the 2 miners

The 1300W is a great power supply.  I have one never had a problem with it.

My favorite is RM1000, I have had great luck with it.   Also lightning 1300 tried and no issues.

Awesome, thanks a lot for the voltage settings!

I could pull another 1000W PSU from one of my CPU rigs if needed.

I'm most concerned with efficiency though; do you guys know which is the best combination between hashrate and power draw with these units?

Well, if you've already purchased the Power Supply, then it's not important regarding the efficiency.  If you've multiple choices, then a Platinum (or even Titanium) rated power supply is better.  So is 230v vs. 120v if you're in a country that has 230v.  As for the rating of the power supply, most power supplies will be most efficient at about 50% of rated peak power, so a 1300w power supply would be peak efficiency around 650w.

According to Johnny Guru,

The 1300W has peak efficiency at 50% load, but it stays above 90% up to around the 800W range which would be okay for around 1.35TH on one of these based on what I've seen from other results.

The 1000W unit does about 89% efficiency at the same loading, so they're about the same.

I don't really want to buy another PSU though haha, though so I guess I'll have to live with the 88% efficiency at full load on the 1300W; which is still quite good from what I understand.

I have 4 evga 1300 g2's

  I run 8 sp20's

I use the settings above each  evga  does about 1200-1215 watts  for 2 sp20's

 I get about 2150-2220 gh  running the 2 sp20's
