If you have a chance could you please answer the following..Do you think government intervention in bitcoin is inevitable? and if so do you think regulation well help bitcoin become widely accepted? any points for discussion around this subject area would help me and my dissertation out a lot.. Thanks x

sounds like your professor has already made up his mind. you'd be better off out of there.

bitcoin is often likened to gravity, a force of nature. can you intervene in that or regulate it? or help it become widely accepted?

You don't want to confuse "regulation of Bitcoin" with regulation when Bitcoin interacts with the banking system.  There is little or no regulation of Bitcoin itself except for tax consequences which applies to receiving any kind of property.  There is regulation when Bitcoin interacts with the "legacy" financial system like exchanges.
