Title: [VNL] VanillaCoin [WhirlpoolX] [Angel Investor] [White paper] GPU miner is out!
Post by: traumschiff on February 20, 2015, 10:06:50 PM
On the request of the community, we will only keep one thread for VNL and it should be in the proper ANN section of BCT: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=964581.msg10547474#msg10547474

Please move over with your questions.

Vanillacoin was engineered from the ground up and is designed to be innovative and forward-thinking. It prevents eavesdropping and censorship, promotes decentralized and energy efficient network transactions.

I am not the dev. This is an unofficial BCT thread made because the dev prefers to answer questions and lead the discussions over at the VNL forums. Please read the whitepaper and the VNL facts to get a better picture on the project. Feel free to ask anything though, we will answer you the best we can.

The coin was launched in december and was solo mined by CPUs since. The algo made the coin botnet proof and the difficulty was low. A new GPU miner was launched just recently and new pools will join mining in a few days.

The GPU miner produces around 50 MH/s on an r9 270x and the coin is still on low diff atm.

Previous ANN by the dev: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=890388.0 - locked after launch, because he isn't really supporting BCT

FAQ:

Does the miner work well with both GCN and VLIW cards?
Current miner produces a lower hashrate on VLIW cards and a higher on GCN cards. There will be different miners released in the future probably.
A user reported a hashrate of 20 MH/s on a 6970 and 30 MH/s on an 5970.

My miner produces a far lower hashrate than the other miners?
Change your driver version and delete your .bin files and start your miner again. Catalyst 14.9 seems to work well for most users.

Example configs:

270x
catalyst version: 14.9

@echo off
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
sgminer.exe  --algorithm whirlcoin -o stratum+tcp://pool01.vanillacoin.net:3033 -u USER -p PASSW -I 18 -g 2 -w 64 --no-submit-stale --failover-only --gpu-powertune 20 --gpu-engine 1010 --gpu-memclock 1250

280x

@echo off
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
sgminer.exe  --algorithm whirlcoin -o stratum+tcp://pool02.vanillacoin.net:3033 -u WALLET -p x -I 19 -g 2 -w 128 --gpu-engine 1175 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-powertune 20 --gpu-fan 85

290x

@echo off
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
sgminer.exe  --algorithm whirlcoin -o stratum+tcp://pool02.vanillacoin.net:3033 -u WALLET -p x -I 19 -g 2 -w 128 --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-powertune 50 --gpu-fan 85

You can take it as an ANN if you want, since the coin doesn't have an open ANN atm. You can find everything about the coin in the links.

Haha, thats the spirit :D

Made the OP a bit more ANNish, but this is just a placeholder until the community representative makes a proper one.

Not yet, also proper marketing and PR will only start from the dev after he finishes with the most important features.

There should be one started though.

Is there a stratum for this one? I can't seem to find anything anywhere for WhirlpoolX, and upstream nomp doesn't have it, so i guess the dev team had it implemented into nomp...

BM-NC49AxAjcqVcF5jNPu85Rb8MJ2d9JqZt is the bitmessage adress of John Connor (the dev), you can contact him directly there or on the VNL forums.

Also just asked him there to get in contact with you.

The algo is new and they are also using a custom nomp also as far as I know.

You can maybe request it on the VNL forums. Plenty of helpful people there, also use the faucet, it has tons of coins atm.

Care with the renting now though, read the last quote in the ANN. Atm GPU mining is hash limited, to the pool avarage which is around 55 MH/s on pool01 if we count with 26 miners and 1.45 GH/s.

The limit will come off on sunday according to John or the moment a 3rd party pool comes up probably (they should be in talk with John atm).

It is picking up fast. I just checked both pools and they are at 2 GH each, so you should be able to safely mine or rent up to 400MH..
And once an NVIDIA miner comes out the hash will jump again.

OK, nice  ;D
what AMD driver version, but difference is huge, I don't think it is driver related.

edit: can you upload your .bin file :)

Nice, good luck mining. Only donate if you have several rigs, else keep them please ;D

Also mine on pool01 currently, because till' the limitations are present you need to keep the pools avarage hash (can't go above) and pool01 has 40 miners and 5 GH/s.

pool02 has 33 miners and not even 1 GH/s.

Saw it - ended up at the github to see there is no build system.

It will be uploaded soon, im pretty confident in Johns capabilities as a dev so I didn't mind.

Also he has fully proven his ability to code so far.

Not concerned about his ability to code - more concerned that there isn't any solid proof the binaries were built from the source on the github.

Anyway, looking past that, the Linux x64 binary has a daemon, not a GUI. Is there instructions on how to interact with this?

Try to reach John directly with this question: BM-NC49AxAjcqVcF5jNPu85Rb8MJ2d9JqZt is his bitmessage. Hes away now for a day though, wrote family issues, but he watches that pretty often.

IRC channel was just made so John is not there yet. Official/Development discussion is being held on vanillacoin.net/forums and you can find "john-connor" there, he is the dev. You can send him an e-mail through the forums or you can use bitmessage to reach him directly: BM-NC49AxAjcqVcF5jNPu85Rb8MJ2d9JqZt

He reads bitmessage pretty often, give him a bit of time to reply since he has family issues now for a day or so. Minerspool and ocminer are also waiting for instructions atm.

I see.  So 64 bit miner but kernels aren't.  That explains the .bin file that ends in whirlcoinTahitigw64l4

try with amd 14.9 drivers, or someone who have r9 290 can upload their .bin file

edit: also after driver update remember to delete old .bin files from the miner folder, THIS IS the most IMPORTANT part.

Lol
Did you read http://vanillacoin.net/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=2775#p2775 (http://vanillacoin.net/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=2775#p2775) :

Quote
Word of advice for some people out there. If you mine more than 10% of the pool combined hashrate 90% of your earnings will be sent to the faucet. This happens automatically in NOMP server-side code. The GPU arms race will start sunday evening after I have upgraded the infrastructure and the anti-DoS attack rules will be removed from NOMP. That said all of the people abusing the system today have lost 90% of all of their rewards so perhaps they will learn to wait until things are in a state where the load can be handled and sustained or go start their own mining pool with strong servers. Everyone else needs to make sure they stay under 10% which should be simple. Have a great weekend.

Right now faucet growth from ~110k to 191k.
More than 80k coin stolen by dev )

Yeah, I noticed that, too.

I haven't been able to get registered on that forum, no reply to email, either.  Anyway one poster in that thread shows a clip of his  280x at 129Mh/s.  I have only been able to get to about 81 Mh/s so I know I am missing something.  I would appreciate anyone else divulging their findings.

Lol

What hashrate are people getting with their 280x?  Config?

'shamed to admit 3.x mh/s. idk wtf, guess i'll try the 14.9 driver

[edit]  has anyone tried the 14.12 or the 14.11.2 beta?

[edit] put in the AMD 14.9, good w/70 mh now  :)

Lasybear, thanks for all your work on X11. Would love you to release a Pluck (SUP) GPU miner for AMD, but anyways.. I have been mining Vanilla and I don't think 90% is going to donation faucet, maybe 10% of what you mined. Yesterday I was over the 10% limit I think, but the pools have gone from 1GH to 6GH overnight and I don't think many people are going to fall under the mining more than 10% of nethash now.  I also know that Wolf has been mining directly into the faucet, causing it to grow.  So keep mining, this coin looks real promising.  Might even have a few good new pools tomorrow or Monday.

Works this algorithm on older AMD HD5870 GPUs?

Yes it works but poor hasrate
6970 ~20MH/s
5970 ~30Mhs/s
it need vectorize for 5xxx and 6xxx series but i cant do it. Woks good only for GCN cards 7xxx and higher not VLIW.

Bite how it behaves ... but more than 18Mhs I did not obtain to 5870

I have built several of RIG 5870, 5970 and 7970

Trying Algorithms while others remain at X11 Groestl

PS according to what is now the best name for the GPU

Thank you for the tip

is there a bounty to xor the last 256bit to the first one of a whirlpool hash  ;D (botnet resistant  ;D)

So that things has been "cpu only" for months really ? (never heard about before yesterday...)
Or did the dev just gpu mined it for that long ? ;D

Sorry for being the troll in the room but it takes less than 5min to do the GPU implementation...

djm34,
I appreciate all your work on the Pluck miner.  I have been following vanilla for two months. It was only
cpu mineable till a couple days ago.  The dev said he barely mined any with his cpu, but as soon as he
saw a GPU on the network he released the needed info to make a whirpoolx gpu miner.  Much like SUP,
but opposite, there is an AMD miner for 2 days and I think people are working right now on the cuda miner.
I don't think there is a bounty for it, but you could go into #vanillacoin and ask dev john-connor. In either
case a miner for Nvidia would be great.  If not you can rent a whirpoolx rig at MRR in my sig til one comes
out or you make one :)  I think this coin has a lot going for it and is about to explode when pools (other than
official) are on it in a few hours. Myself, CRYPT0N1TE, ocminer, and a lot of good people are working on
making this happen for pools, promotion, and exchanges. It is very much like SUP, but instead of a week it
has been slowly brewing for 2 months, and it has all come together today.

Working SGMiner for WhirlpoolX from source: http://vanillacoin.net/forums/viewtopic.php?id=507

The one in the OP is badly broken on Linux.

Good job as always Wolf. It builds and works nicely -- ~90Mh/s on 290x with the catalyst opencl2 14.41rc1 drivers.
that's all ?  ;D

I didn't edit the OpenCL.
still... I saw someone reporting at 120MH/s with a 280x

I'm pushing over 150MH/s now - beat him.  ;D
I do 500GH/s with 4 cards on supernova, this is unbeatable   ;D ;D

more seriously the 980 does 190MH/s the 780ti ~160MH/s and the 750ti 50~60MH/s

New 32/64bit miner will be released by John-Connor in the upcoming days with increased hashrate and fixes.

pluck was given for free, but yes this one won't be just to avoid giving it to you  >:(

and with that sort of comment I ask all gpu dev, to not release any gpu miner for free for this coin
and to that ungrateful moron in particular ;D

(and lets be honest, that coin has been probably GPU raped during two months by those in the know... adding a xor at the end of an algo isn't complicated)

I stated the truth, I have no clue what you did or anyone else did on the puck thread since I wasn't there. I did this thread for miners to support VNL as a new crypto. I have nothing to gain by giving this thread my time, trying to gather information, trying to help miners. I am not an IT guy, I never learned to code so I myself can't compile a miner for a new algo.

You simply came here to bragfight here with wolf and it's obvious you will never release a miner for the coin which hashes 4x as much as the public miner.

Guess whos the ultimate asshole here, I did this thread for free and I also tried to help several people here.

Can't care less what you will release, I told the guy who asked what John wrote on the irc, he will release a new miner tomorrow, I can wait.

The windows miner recently I posted here http://vanillacoin.net/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=2879#p2879 is a much better than the current windows miner out there. I specifically dealt with unrolling the loops used in the CPU portions and fixed all problems with multi-card rigs. I will release the final version soon that has working and compiling source code for linux and mac os x. I was able to raise the hashrate of a 4x card rig by over 4 times. 8)

Thank you for your support.

Thank you, already added it to the op with a small notice. Also announced it some comments ago, but wasn't sure if it's stable enough to link.

;D you are comparing opening a thread and developping a miner.
No sure why you would get anything at all (as you are doing that mostly because you have already a large bag of vanillacoin and that coin has no exchange).
yeah guess whos the ultimate asshole here

Apparently, opening a Bitcointalk thread and helping a few people is some serious work, like GPU development.
;D typing on a computer (no matter what you do, except may-be watching porn  ;D although it doesn't require typing) always looks like work

I'm not comparing opening a thread to making a miner. You called me a moron because I stated the obvious: you won't release a miner that hashes at 4x the speed of the public one since you are obviously doing this for a living and you are making money.

You called me a moron, who is trying to help others here for stating the obvious. Didn't you not?

Learn to read dude, I wasn't being bad mannered with you. Obviously learning to code hindered you on learning to behave and to socialize.

Check my adress for my huge/large bag. I wasn't even mining with more PCs even though I could have done it easily during the early mining phase.

I'll apologise to you because wolf pointed out that you actually legitly helped others on different occasions.

My opinion stays though, first bragging to maybe make people ask for your help isn't the way of actual helping. I just don't work that way. If I can help I do it without first poiting out my abilities and than waiting for the perfect time to do it.

I may not be able to code, but I can do several other things in life and this is my attitude. It was easy for me to missjudge the situation.

Mining on the coin is exploding. People are noticing. It would be great if this thread could replace the old ANN thread in search engines. If anyone can submit this or do that it would be appreciated.  Meanwhile keep mining, as the coins are harder to get, keep spreading the word, and post and grow this thread. Can't wait to see what the exchanges will bring.

It got around 2-2.5mh/s for me on a 6 core amd. Not really profitable to mine with it though now that GPU miners are out.

Locked this thread, the community asked to keep one single thread for VNL and they decided that it should be in the proper ANN section.
