The thing is it does not really matter yeh i feel a little sorry for the guy if the story is true, but how many victims of fiat robbery are there everyday in the real world?

What because someone was stupid enough to trade all that money/btc without taking due diligence on safety is a problem for bitcoin, no it was simply getting to cosy about risk involved with any large transaction that could have been toilet roll but if the criminal can make money then they will surely make money.

Again not a great story but hey life goes on.

This is a result of the Bitcoin hype train... The same thing could happen with fiat anyways.

Well, if it was easier to buy/sell bitcoins without having to go to the streets to do it, people would be more safe.

Thief's will be thief's ..... no matter if it was credit cards / debit cards / cash or PayPal .... money is money.

It has once more become clear to me, how much secondary damage things like Mt. Gox & Silkroad has caused.. I quote :

" Bitcoin has always had a bit of a tarnished reputation since the whole debacle with Silk Road, and then later on with Mt. Gox "

Wow, big deal. What about gold holders, silver holders, diamond holders, cash holders, bond holders and art holders?
These days you can be a target if you have expensive clothes.

"Hoodlums" are also not very well known for their technology savviness.

Besides, if the problem ever gets serious one day, we'll just start using Deniable operating systems like Julian Assange's Rubberhose File System (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubberhose_(file_system)) on our smartphones... That way we can basically prove to our muggers that we don't have any bitcoin, even when we do.

Would the coins be safe after they steal the phone because we know they will, can we get the coins back in that scenario when the phone is taken or do we lose both? We must be able to create a back up somewhere maybe on the comp or something in case that crap ever happened? I am only now looking into having some bitcoins on a phone wallet looks like it could be a good idea multi sig with your partners phone or something would make it pretty safe.

Rubberhose just hides everything from them, so if they steal the phone they'll never know they hold the key to them.

Which wallet you have in there determines if you have a backup or not... Use something like electrum and you can keep a Seed at home.

Until the day comes when we feel the need to use such a system, the best we can do is a strong 2-of-3 multisig wallet like GreenAddress.it.

I've written an extensive comparrison of multisig wallets over here:

Enjoy!
