Title: South African Sub-Board?
Post by: CrackedLogic on February 22, 2015, 05:43:25 PM
I've seen a fair amount of South Africans on the forum and it would be nice if we could have like a central place to talk about our current society(with all our parliament antics, corruption and bitcoin adoption-obviously)
It could also help encourage more bitcoin/cryptocurrency related events around South Africa.

I know it might be a bit more moderation but I think it's worth it. There is mainly English speaking and afrikaans South Africans. I have yet to see the other 9 languages.
If they aren't any mods/staff able to take up the role, I don't mind doing it.

Anybody here agreeing to a South African Board?

I don't see the afrikaans thread on the first page of the other languages (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=11.0) board, and the last post of the thread at the bottom of that board is from November 2014.

I also see that there is a Klingon (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=27745.0;all) thread (LOL)

I'm talking about people who can speak both english and afrikaans.

Aren't there many different dialects of language in Africa?

We don't need that right now. First you have to expand your local thread, then you have a chance to get sub-forum.

Yeah there is, I assume majority of them are here.

If not a sub-board it would be nice if we could have a stickied topic in the other section.

That should be handled pretty fast. Just PM to Cyrus (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=78147).

I'll pm him once there are enough people supporting the idea. Should be fairly soon.

Of all the languages that had to be on the board
Maybe I should check that section more often ha-ha

If Klingon is there South Africa deserves it's own  ;)

Because you can speak zulu and/or xhosa fluently without Google translate.

I voted yes for the board.
There shouldn't be any problem if you guys contribute to a lot of traffic on the forum, but I sometimes fear that every nation will start demanding for a new board.
We Indians have a separate board in Locals part and that's the only local board in which I see everyone talking in english(earlier I used to think that local boards are there just because of the language difference).
I feel like RSA's case is matching with the indian case, we have a lot of dialects spoken, we need something to accumulate us under one shell and all. So yes. Agree to a S.african board.

Since when does Google translate do Zulu / Xhosa?

That's the only problem I fear of this suggestion being accepted. With the indian board they still can speak their native language while easily switching between theirs and english. We can also do the same.

Currently Google translate support 90 languages. And yes: Zulu is one of them. For full list of supported languages please click here:

http://translate.google.pl/about/intl/en_ALL/languages.html (http://translate.google.pl/about/intl/en_ALL/languages.html)

As for South African Forum I see that no so many of SA citizens are interested. They sure are not in this thread.

If the others don't want a sub board that's fine, if we don't get much of a response then there's no point in having our on sub board since nobody will contribute to it.
