Title: Ponzi discussion thread.. Time for it to go?
Post by: ndnh on February 24, 2015, 05:28:07 PM
I am quite confused.

I feel that we have a chanpion ponzi in 4 different ways it got introduced.

First HYIP, and you can find some infamous ones that scammed many coins. http://www.cnet.com/news/bitcoin-trader-mycoin-shutters-taking-387m-in-investor-funds/

Then came weeklyponzi. Different system. Attracted many. Successful. Scammed coins?

Then came CryptoDouble, 100 hour system. Attracted many. Successful. Went off with a giant loot.

Then btc-flow. Faucet system. Scam.

Is it that people like only a new kind of ponzi?
I have heard the claim that they are aware of the risks. And asked other to mind their own business other than warning them?

Isn't it time that we take a strong position against all ponzis, scam and hyips?

How about taking an oath that we will not invest in a ponzi from now?
(existing ones, let them be over.. or you won't take this seriously)

Let us clean up the board..

I agree with what you are saying. Ponzi operators will continue to create new ways to scam. There are more ponzi threads then ever on this board.

We need admins to at least make a separate section for hyip related activities. They won't ban them outright.

They should ban them tho

I know your viewpoint.

Called domino effect. When a site pays out to a single user, others jump in expecting that it will continue to run.
The behavior is fueled by short term profits and it is not healthy to the community.

That is why it is a good idea for every willing member of the community to take an pledge to stop promoting or playing at a ponzi from now on. Let the current ponzis go on and end. It will all close in a few days. We should make a promise that we will not fuel any future ponzis made oin this thread from this moment..

The only time they will stop is when people stop depositing money in these ponzis, and they themselves will stop putting the work to run them .

Solution: Prohibite the word ponzi made by newbies.

They (ponzis) won't go as long as people want to use them.  If there is demand, there will be supply, simple as that.  Prohibition rarely works for anything.  Ban them from this board and they will sprout up somewhere else, or just make more work for the moderators.

Solution: Prohibite the word ponzi made by newbies.

No member + account on the forum would create a ponzi, simply because his account will get a negative trust for the ponzi.
That also will fool a lot of people(who don;t check the trust rating), if the ponzi operator has a neg rep due to ponzi or some other Scam. Pierre was a recent good example.

Title: Re: Ponzi discussion thread.. Time for it to go?
Post by: pozmu on February 24, 2015, 07:51:15 PM
I was thinking about starting my own ponzi, fair one.
But then I lost my profits on altcoin market which means this idea is RIP.
But when, or maybe better to say if I recuperate my losses I will think about starting one.
I don't think ponzis will ever die, the temptation of easy money is just too strong - on both sides of a ponzi.

Banning ponzis... no, people here knows the risk.
Some of them even call bitcoin a ponzi
So in a way we're all playing in ponzi ;D

Solution: Prohibite the word ponzi made by newbies.

Well, what about selling accounts?

Ponzi== Instant Ban.

This won't happen according to the moderators and the threads also won't be removed. You can always leave them a trust comment and ignore their attempts. They are making these sites because it's working and bringing them money. Once people stop paying the scammers will start seeing this as a waste of time.

What will you do when some people will claim Gambling == Instant Ban as none of them have gambling license ?

I know many have suggested theymos to make a separate section for ponzi, hyip, pyramid, investment game, or whatever you call it, but I still don't understand why he didn't take this approach.

Ponzi should be banned as soon as possible. They should be let free to deceive people and take them money and run away .

the forum should have the option of auto-ignore all ponzi topics.

The forum would be a better place to live if it was implemented

Also most of them are losing their bitcoins while the site owner is earning tons of money.

**WTF please wake up! you're not going to be rich in these ponzi sites, only the scammers are

It sounds good but it is infeasible. There is no way the forum can recognize the ponzi threads automatically, as the ponzi owners will just mistype their thread title as "ponzzi" or use other terms like "investment plan".

It's bet who is more stupid than you more than lucky.

nope, ponzi is not gambling because ponzi is a scam.

I think the moderators should find a way to restrict the proliferation of these ponzi schemes in this forum so not to entice more newbies or gamblers risking their money. It will do a great service to the community and uphold the morale as well.

Sub forum for it where there's a post that says it's a scam by default.

I think it was already suggested about making a thread for these ponzies but I think they're just gonna ignore it..

Ponzi should be banned permanently .

Or a sub-forum page. For these kind of ponzis

Not everywhere in the world bitcoin gambling sites would require a license.

But I think everywhere Ponzis are illegal

Let's just ignore the Ponzi threads and hope they die on their own because at this point we can't do much about them. People have been warned and know what a Ponzi is now and if they still want to throw their money away then it's their problem.

Title: Re: Ponzi discussion thread.. Time for it to go?
Post by: ndnh on February 25, 2015, 07:07:39 AM
Ponzis and gambling are different.

Most diceBJ etc. have 1% edge. Ponzis has 5% fee when it starts and takes 100% when it ends.

Most gambling sites do not end up as scam. (Yeah right some do.). All ponzis end up scamming.

Gambling = calculatable known risk. Ponzi = Only the operator will know when it is going to stop.
in other words, gambling = you are in control. ponzi = operator is in control

Gambling site may or may not profit. (thought the former is more likely.). Ponzis always make profit to the owner.

Ponzis will not make you win! You just donate it to the ponzi operator. Why not give it to someone who needs it more than him?

Thats what people should do. Last year a similar trend happened, but died out soon, when people stopped depositing in the ponzis. Each year a similar trend happens, and should put an end to them.

To believe the new ponzi will "succeed", it needs to have something new; it attracts payments until it collapses as all ponzis do.

It is indeed somewhere between gambling and scam, but I feel like it's much closer to scam.
Also, everybody that is "investing" in a Ponzi actually hopes it will scam the ones that come after them, which is .. let's say not nice.

A new bitcoiner coming in here can see directly 1-2 very active ponzi related threads. He may conclude that bitcoin and/or bitcointalk is mostly related to illegal stuff.
I would also like to see all ponzis banned/removed/gone. It would make the forum a nicer place, with not so many obvious scams.

All ponzis threads are actually gambling, with a very large edge as there is also a risk of getting nothing .

its not a risk anymore. its almost certainly a guarantee you will get nothing
