Title: Mini Bitcoin Lottery in this thread!
Post by: KaChingCoinDev on February 25, 2015, 01:52:27 PM
Restarting it, we will see what happens. I am not going to add escrow as this is such a small amount. If this starts getting bigger I will find an escrow.

Okay, just an idea!

Send .001 to the address at the bottom of this post for one ticket. You can "purchase" more than one ticket. At the end of this time period, a name will be drawn from the tickets entered. They will receive 100% of the BTC. The names will be drawn randomly by a program  I created, with you chances increasing per ticket. see below for more details.

This will last for 3 days, until 2/28/15 12 PM EST.

Let go!

1GUFWHPEkW9nCWqFsk8F9ZgkDCXvqqEXfi

The concept works like this:

A coded "hat" that will generate a random number. And if you order 7 tickets, your number will be from 1-7. And if another person orders 4, their number will be 8-11. So the number will be between 1-11. If it is from 1-7, it goes to you, if it is from 8-11, it goes to the other person.

Not provably fair, how will you pick the winner?
Can you escrow them?

I was going to put the tickets into a hat, and draw them. Or create a small program in C++ to calculate it. I will hunt around for an escrow to do this, and I will ask him him fee.

A hat ? Seriously ? What about transparency ?

How would you convince a better that his odds are right ?  How would you pull this off when you have a coded app on your pc and i'm sitting in front of my pc ?

Well, the number is randomly generated. I am looking for an escrow to do this drawing, but I can't find one yet.

You need that escrow to also verify the code is legit.

Yes, I did state it:

If you have any other ideas, let me know.

Still trying to find an escrow...

if you're serious, you need to create an official website with all the explanations and all transactions.so
, you do not have to answer the questions one by one. whereas if you already did it still makes people hesitant.

One. To do something fun

Two. Build up trust.

I'm glad you like the idea, and if I find an escrow, I might start it back up.

Yes, so it was going to be 100% without escrow. If I end up doing escrow, it might be 99% if he takes a 1%.

thanks for clarification. IMHO escrow would only make sense later as soon as many players and big sums are involved and participants will not trust You for bigger amount

Yes same here, but I was getting to much opposition, so I decided to close it. Do you think I should just reopen it?

opposition? I understood that they wanted to be sure that the drawing  is provably fair = understandable. everyone wants to see escrow will be involved = understandable but IMO not at the starting stage because a ticket will cost only .001
I also understand that people want to see a website for a kind of lottery. but I understand You to test it first and start the website if idea is accepted and many tickets are sold.

to restart it? difficult question for me to tell You what to do :) but good luck in case You do

One thing that you could do is use something about the blockchain that would determine the winner of the lottery. I would suggest using something about the first block that was found after a pre-determined date/time according to a specific block explorer. One characteristic that could be used would be the none of the block (the last/right 4 digits) of the nonce. So for example, according to blockchain.info, block345162 (https://blockchain.info/block/00000000000000000f77c49f8fc2a0b95c3ebe16783f34114959021995aeb9b7), had a nonce of 1839567119 so ticket number 7119 would win (then if ticket 7119 did not win, then the last 3 digits of the nonce would win, or ticket number 119).

Another option would be to use the last four digits of the block size according to a specific block explorer. So for the same block, it's size was 445.90234375 KB, and the winning ticket using this method would be 4375, and if not enough tickets were drawn then ticket number 375 would win.

You would want to be as specific as possible as to how the winner will be found to avoid any accusations of cheating, and for similar reasons you want to make it so you cannot reasonably know the winning ticket number ahead of time.

If you are still looking for an escrow I would be able to help you for 1%

waiting for the escrow, escrow it one time, and pay from your hand, after that you can keep that escrow, untill 10 or 20 drawings, so you dont loss 1% every time.

Sorry I don't get it. How the winner will be pick ?

A coded "hat" that will generate a random number. And if you order 7 tickets, your number will be from 1-7. And if another person orders 4, their number will be 8-11. So the number will be between 1-11. If it is from 1-7, it goes to you, if it is from 8-11, it goes to the other person.

Why not just use Random.org and do it over join.me to make it 100% fair and no cheating.

I will add escrow next time. But, I will not take the loss myself, so the payout will be 99%.
