There was a drama about SA last year, along with payed trolling accusations against their admin.

Pretty hilarious.  :D
Something like "Something Awful is the Enemy of Bitcoin"

What about a bitcoin bank or exchange developed, hosted and managed by goons?

All savings and transactions secured against impropriety by goons insatiable desire to act smug about doing a better job than actual Bitcoin supporters

:)  Slowly ...

LMAO!!! These guys are hilarious!

Some comments about the BTC-e hack:

"Fairly certain that bitcoin supporters would view the vaguest hint of competence as a sure sign that the exchange is run by the "system" and cannot be trusted. Surely better to trust hopeless morons that do not have the faintest idea what they're doing, that way you can be sure the gov'nment is not trying to get in on the precious bitcoin racket. " - NtotheTC Jul 31, 2012 08:52 Post (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3486823&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=53#post406100430)

"I was a bit surprised to see that people were pumping bitcoins into an exchange that was actively being hacked right now, but clearly I shouldn't have been. There seem to be no depths of stupidity that these people won't stoop to. " - Qwertycoatl Jul 31, 2012 08:05 Post (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3486823&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=53#post406100075)

and the Bitcoinica hack:

"If Zhou posts a picture of the hacker, and it's just himself with a huge fake moustache, he might become my favourite internet person ever. " - Dex    Jul 30, 2012 00:25 Post (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3486823&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=52#post406058394)

Atlas, what is your obsession with pretending to be older gentlemen? Last time it was an old guy who had a ranch of horses. You're really pathetic.

Aw, who gives a fuck. Just because MNW has a gay Atlas fetsh doesn't mean we need to worry about it as long as "Atlas" (or just an innocent bystander/newcomer) is posting constructively and not trolling the fuck out of everyone with his bullshit propaganda.

Last year's thread ran to over 500 pages.  It was Something Awful which dug up the information about Bruce Wagner and the Bold Funding fraud.

And got Atlas to admit he enjoys rough sex with a middle school teacher.

And found Bruce Wagner's old Thai forum posts where he promotes having sex with young boys.

My favorite posts are the ones about Loganschrye. They always crack me up.

Cosby Coin was pretty funny.  So was the whole "Lowtax is a Freemason and Something Awful is being paid to attack Bitcoin" thing.

That thread was created right around the time the rally from $5 started. They must've bought in  ;).

Mike Jones is actually the RL name of a WWE wrestler. Somehow I don't think Atlas would last in a cage match.

This is around their third megathread about bitcoins since last years cosbyhack. We still have some of their members hanging around this forum too.  The first thread was fucking hilarious, all of the others have been mostly rehashes of the same stuff from the first thread (Bruce, atlas, and libertarian bashing), and fairly boring.

Yeah that one caught my eye as well, hilarious.

Also I agree Cosby Coin was great.  Every time I visit the forums a small (actually not that small) part of me is hoping it'll be back again.

I saw a rarity post on another thread and it reminded me to check up on the SA forum.  As was the case from half a year ago it was many pages between worthwhile posts.  They had a golden period where there where maybe two or three per page but I guess those days are relegated to the dustbin of history.

One funny one I ran across was this:

=====
Raneman
Dec 24, 2010

Bitcoin has 3 kinds of people using it:
1. Dumb Libertarians
2. Smart Criminals
3. People of ambiguous intelligence trying to profit off of the former two.

I was thinking of joining the third group, then I realized I'd be much better off in the stock market where my money won't magically disappear randomly one day.
=====

The poor guy must be unaware of MF Global, or if he's drawing a distinction between the stock market and segregated funds at futures broker, he must be unaware of the flash crash and before that, 2008.  My sense is that he shares the general SA members' faith in the modern capital markets and the effectiveness and willingness of the regulators to actually regulate them and punish wrongdoing.

Perhaps the guy is being tongue-n-cheek but I think anyone clever enough to do so in this way would probably not be paying the SA fee.  I did notice that an SA person who deviates from support of mainstream financial dogma gets slapped down pretty quickly by his peers so a member would have to be about this circumspect in order to get away with such a comment on that board.

Though there is a surprising SA interest lately, it is amusing that BTC/fiat exchange rates have fallen out of favor as a topic of conversation.

Sorry to revive a old thread, but I gonna ask...

How many of those Something Awful posters are patting themselves on the back for not buying BTC when it was $5?

These somethingawful guys remind me a lot of politicians, they'll attack something or talk about it but never go into any specifics or basic arithmetic, I think if I ever vote again I'm going to vote for a candidate that is capable of talking about the basic multiplication and addition, in fact, that might be the deciding factor on whether I have a debate with anyone at all now.
