Hi there,

I was always interessted on Bitcoin but now I want to try some Altcoins and see how things goes . What is basically the best one ?
Most of people tell me Litecoin or Darkcoin , Do you think that Darkcoin have a future ?

Don't have enough knowledge to judge by my self again . btw does the creators of both Litecoin & Dogecoin are from Bitcointalk forums ? I mean how they first started since they are the most famous after Bitcoin .

Litecoin has crashed over the last year. When it started it was one of the best investments available but I think its had its day in the sun now. I can't see it regaining its former glory.

i think the best altcoin is peercoin(i love ppc). ppc has been here for a long time and the developers are working really hard to keep on improving it.

I think its a bad question to ask... everyone even me will try to convince you of our personal favorite, no one here gona tell you how to become rich if is that what you want... the best you can do is to search by yourself on the threads of each coin that you find interested

Litecoin - some tell that may be dead. No big news for quite a while, but the network goes well, afaik.
Dogecoin just had yesterday the final halving. Price is low, community is big and nice, I don't know if that will count at the end.
Darkcoin .. hmm... some tell that Darkcoin is a scam and Monero will take over. Others tell that monero is a scam.
There are A LOT of other altcoins that may need to get to the list and .. hm.. I don't even know all of them.
(I brought dogecoin into discussion because of litecoin and monero because of darkcoin. Just to avoid discussions about "why I started enumerating..")


The only fair answer is: you have to decide for yourself.

Completely agree. All that you will hear here (lol) is biased opinions that are not helpful at all. Research top 20-30 of coinmarketcap and see for yourself. :)

If you don't have enough knowledge, then spend some time to learn and gain the knowledge.
Trust me, Bitcoin and the Alts are the easiest way to lose vast sums of money if you're not careful.

Educate yourself first and purchase coins second.

i don't know the alternative altcoins are so good.
At this moment i try to change most of my altcoins for BTC.
Maybe i've done wrong. I will see in the future. But as i see the value of most of the altcoins right now is much lower than about a year ago.

The best is the coin has best tech and dev team. Darkcoin inherits years of Bitcoin developent and it has talent and committed dev team, with cheering community.

I believe Darkcoin is best coin.

for short i beleive sys, and noble
and for long you can choose, xai,xqn, arch, vrc
and the most important research first before trading

I think you should try STR [Do you know it?], The best coin i ever seen, if you know how to trade then you can earn lot more with this coin

If you mean Stellars then yes , I do know it indeed because I used it for couple of days or something to earn about 45$ from my facebook accounts then simply left it  ::) . Didn't get attached to it like it happened with Bitcoin to be honest .

Depends on what you're looking for in a coin. I personally like Darkcoin (DRK) a lot... it has a great DEV, a great community and novel ideas... in addition to anonymous sending, they also have instant transactions... great coin in my opinion 8)

Really want to Switch to Darkcoin for the moment . but I want to see what Bitcoin Wallet "Dark wallet" gives, if it's gives more then Darkcoin or less .

With marketcap of ~20k USD, NeosCoin (http://www.neoscoin.com) is _riddiculously_ undervalued coin. No scam, no premine, excellent developers. The most functional wallet among all coins, you can trade in it, you can monitor your mining rigs, automatic updates and all the goodies... Take a good look.

Good coins in my opinion are DRK, NXT, VRC, Doge and maybe few more coins but most of other altcoins are shitcoins just losing value. Hope as bitcoin stabilizes and start uptrend altcoin scene will recover a bit.

Decided to give Darkcoin a shoot since a lot of people suggested it to me and also recommended it .
Not sure whats the difference between it and between Darkwallet for BTC tho .

Lol, many users will promote their holding coins to you :D hope that coin will increase in price.
Do some research before investing in alt-coins, because many of alt coins just piece of junk, pump-dump type of coins. It's very risky if you hold it for a long time. Choose well developed coin which have unique feature, and strong dev team and community.

You should try out NXT ... its lightyears ahead from most of the other coins.

I took a dev's advice to hold and got left holding a bag of worthless coins. He said you will be sorry if you sell, well I'm sorry I held.

I really like Dogecoin and Peercoin (I never used Peercoin but it seems like a good coin).

I think it's still dogecoin. Not because of what it has to offer in terms of new technology but because of the strong backing from its community of supporters.The devs are pretty active. Also I have been observing that mostly it has caught the attention of girls. Maybe because of the dog meme, I think.

There is no clear answer to the questions from the OP, unless we define more precisely what defines the best altcoin?
- market cap?
- technological advancement?
- added features?
- size of the community?
- number of available apps?

Taking any of these mentioned issues alone, I could point to a different altcoin. How to reasonably combine all these metrics into a one, the ultimate? I don't know.
there are plenty of interesting altcoins in this ocean of possibilities, but only few are really innovative. Sometimes innovation is also misunderstood, as putting additional features into the wallet, not the coin itself.

First of all, I agree with the sentiments of most posters here. Do not be swayed by other people's opinion. Also, do a lot of research before investing. Now, let me answer your question.

Peercoin is one of the oldest altcoins out there. It was released on August 2012. This shows that the protocol is secured and stable.

Also, it is one of the most unique altcoins. It uses a hybrid system --- Proof of Work for coin distribution and Proof of Stake for network security. The developer decided to use Proof of Work to fairly distribute the coins. Since Peercoin was not pre-mined or pre-sold.

Furthermore, it is one of the most innovative altcoins. It is the first cryptocoin to use the Proof of Stake concept. Since then, other altcoins have used this concept --- the two most popular ones being Nxt and Paycoin.

Ok, but that still leaves my question unanswered. How do we measure that the coin is really worth something, and further out of these worth something, which is the most promising one? Is having a new code better than taking the old Bitcoin code and improving it?
Should that be the only criterion?

in my opinion, it just personal user opinion about how worth the coins.
since everyone can create alt-coins every time
only coin with well developed and have an unique + new feature will prove it worth in the future

right now im betting nxt for the long run as they are developing services on top of the platform at blazing speed compared to any other coin I've seen right now. the only contender i feel to be a threat is ethereum as they do have large amounts of following and developers waiting to build on top of that platform. i see it as a race to acquire the top devs to create the "kill app" or the "facebook" app of the crypto world where everyone would use it even those not familiar with crypto. its this holy grail app/service that sits on top of the blockchain that would really skyrockect bitcoin along with an "innovative" altcoin that implements it. i say go where the devs are and those that show much progress. regardless btc is here to stay as its the gateway to the fiat world. its just which 2.0 crypto will prevail and right now its nxt vs ethereum imo.

I think there should be a team which will continuously develop the given source code, add new features.

There's no impartiality on this thread.  NXT is not the best at anything because there's always hacks / thefts and many bugs in loading the blockchain.
