Title: Favourite Exchange?
Post by: CoinDicing on February 26, 2015, 05:50:19 PM
My personal favourite is localbitcoins and circle. I like localbitcoins because you can post your own offers and they offer escrow.

My favourite exchange (for trade/exchange  xbt >> eur) is kraken but I also like bitfinex. Kraken has the lowest fee for the bank transfer, only 0.09 € .

My personal choice is www.100bit.co.in. Though everyone wont have access to it as it is still in beta. I like it because I control my own coins and the trading fees are damn low.

How does the escrow work, and what happens if someone tries a chargeback for a bank transfer? I assume local bitcoins only holds bitcoins in escrow, and not money. I skimmed through a few horror stories about chargebacks on the internet and it put me off.

I used to know that bank transfers are irreversible in nature. You should not accept any reversible payment method against bitcoin.

Can you reverse a transaction on coinbase?

I like coinbase now. Wasn't the favvourite before, but now with multisig and all, it is the favourite for me.

How long does it take to register at coinbase and what kind of ID do they want? Most exchanges I have used want a high resolution passport scan and either a scan of a recent bill or bank statement.

A bitcoin transaction is irreversible , so it doesn't matter which "wallet" you are using. When you send your bitcoin and after the tx has received at least 1 confirmation , then it is gone.

No, it isn't. kraken is different from circle, you should deposit eur with a simple bank trasfer and after create the buy order.

Until now i have almost all the time used cryptsy.
A few times Poloniex, which is also good.
I didn't have any problems with these two, so i keep on using them.

The Kraken is good if you live in the EU in a country that uses the Euro because it does SEPA bank transfers for a tiny fee (something like 9 cents). If you live outside the EU you have to pay the going rate for a normal wire transfer which is a hell of a lot more.

But since they seemed to me that they started to increase some of the fees, I am just looking for a good replacement.

Thanks, but they don't have (yet?) the altcoins I also play with.
Bittrex has too many coins and I've also read some odd news at some point.
HitBtc looks good, but .. I am still searching.
Will keep an eye on this thread, may help me too.

There are so many right now. Apart from the one in my signature, there are localbitcoins, kraken, cryptsy, poloniex which I've all used before without facing any problem. currently I'm using bittrex and there is quite a heavy movement over there which makes it great for doing fast trading and also fast profit.

Yeah. If you want to sell your bitcoins on localbitcoin.com , you get the cash first from the buyer and you need to release his coins afterwards.  This is the best exchange I had ever seen in my life.

Nah, it's fine. Found another exchange who is fast, trusted and gives me a good rate.
Although it's certain that it won't scam me because it's an Australian company and provides an ABN, and there's numerous positive feedbacks, but who has used igot.com before?

Thanks

Have to stick with Coinbase for BTC/USD.   It works but still don't keep much on there.  For alts. I really like Banx.io It used to be Atomic-Trade but recently merged with Banx.  Much faster and secure than Polo/Bittrex.   It's been around for over  a year and has never been hacked.  Another plus is it's licensed/registered in the US.

When I need to buy/sell bitcoins, my choice is http://www.247exchange.com they are very reliable and fast, and the best thing is that they accept credit cards with rather small fees!

Localbitcoins is a huge RIPOFF if you ask me. The asking price of bitcoins is anywhere from 5% to 30% over market value.

I don't care how anonymous it is to buy bitcoins on localbitcoins I will not pay up to 30% above market rate for coins. It's fucking extortion!

some people can't buy bitcoins elsewhere. for them localbitcoins is the only option.
then again, i can imagine paying around 2 or 3 percent above market rate if that's your only option to buy btc.
anything over 10 percent is insane.

I wonder if trading altcoins in country specific exchanges is any good, as they will never have the  traffic or volume that the international or main exchange sites have.

No its not 30%. It all depends on what part of the world you are, and what method you are using. For me, I just pay around 4-5% of the bitstamp price, and it is much convenient for me, as they are protecting me with an escrow, and I can trade with reputed sellers.

Yes it is 30% except for cash at bank or wire transfers. Western Union, Moneygram, Payza, Paysafecard, PayPal, Gift Cards can be from 10% to 30%.

OKPAY, WebMoney and Perfect Money are 5% to 15% over market value. Prices are bloody terrible for all forms of payment. It's a huge RIP-OFF!

And the big sellers on localbitcoins are obviously laundering the coins they received from selling drugs, committing fraud and other criminal activities.

I use a combination of Bitstamp and BTC-E.

I trade on both exchanges, but when there is a point that I need to make a BTC to fiat cashout, I will transfer the coins to Bitstamp, if they aren't already there, and then request a cashout.

Not that I don't trust BTC-E enough to request a cashout, but Bitstamp always managed to process EUR cashouts in a quick fashion.
