Title: Maybe the Russian Government Invented BTC
Post by: calme on February 28, 2015, 11:41:02 AM
It's a good way for them to transfer money to Russia when they sell AKs, silencers, helicopters, hacking expertise, etc. to profit from the chaos in third world countries. Also, they can use it to fuel illegal oil-related deals both internally and outside of Russia. Then, they become notoriously anti-BTC in order to fight off suspicion, similar to the way Putin is anti-gay. What do you think?

I think you're stretching.

There was a theory that Bitcoin was created by a country with a struggling economy system in hopes it would benefit their economic standing and that Bitcoin would become a new form of currency that everyone used. It's definitely possible that Russia is involved with Bitcoin (i.e. running BTC-e.com), but I don't think any government is using it for illegal activities. Bitcoin isn't fully anonymous either so if they were to do this it would be on a large scale and someone would probably find out eventually. Governments have more complex ways of participating in their shady business practices and I would expect that any kind of money involved with it would be disguised within another form of payment so that if any suspicions arose there would be a story of what the money was being used for.
