http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130677 anyone know if this should be able to drive 6 GPUs with those extension cables? and no, this isn't to mine btc etc. it's for another purpose, but I still could use some input from you guys who've built these rigs before. thanks! Is it going to be a graphics rig, or a computation rig? X1 socket bandwidth won't be enough for high-performance graphics but if you have a long algorithm computation it's fine.

I have not used them for a while with GPU mining pretty much dead. There are some very nice risers that use USB and get you some extra space. With 6 cards having some extra space to spread them from each other is nice. Then use some kind of fan to push air though (assuming it is getting hot)

As an alternative, the following is an identical 990FX-based MSI mobo (I have this in one of my rigs) except it has four PCIe 2.0 x16 slots instead of only two. I know I have 2 of those boards in my parts from GPU days. They were a little bit of a pain, i had good luck with powered risers. With using unpowered it had trouble running with a full board of cards even with it's two molex power for cards. Works great for me with risers.
