Title: Does anyone know where I can find PM rules?
Post by: _JCaferJr_ on March 04, 2015, 05:22:03 PM
I want to send pm's to many people, but I don't know how to do it w/o getting banned.  Is there a thread that talks about this?  I already checked the pinned items at the top.

Thanks

Basically the rules are you can't send unsolicited PMs. You can't send SPAM.

Besides that there are some limits on the number of PMs you can send.
It's related with "Limits on posting":

Ok, so I guess that means I was spamming people with my main account.  I hope Theymos will just give me a temporary ban or fine.

Thank you guys for setting me straight!

Why would you do that?
It's a spam, and there is no forum where it would be tolerated.

It seemed harmless when I did it.  I just wanted to let like-minded people know of another, better option.  So far, the replies have been positive.

Just create a new thread with the information in the right category. This is a forum!

If several people are interested they will post and will make your thread even more visible.

Instead of spamming via PM, you should do next:

- Create a topic about your whatever want to promote.
- Be creative with description and put all the details, so it can be understandable.
- Refresh the topic with updates, even "bumps" can be useful when there is no things to add.
- If nothing left, try to pay some ad spot on some site with your banner.

IF you mean to many people at a same time, just put member name with a comma and it will be a group message

Unless they're expecting a PM from you, that's spam, so I wouldn't do it.

Is your "main" account  marcotheminer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=147773)? I ask because I know that he was banned recently for something similar to what you describe above, although his ban appears to be only for 10 days and not a preeminent ban as you describe.

Regardless of who your main account is, it is considered ban evading if you send PM's or post outside of meta to appeal and ban evading will likely get your ban extended if temporary, and will decrease your chances of getting it removed if it is a perm ban. (your post history reflects you evading your ban).

No, I've only ever used my main JCaferJr.  "_JCaferJr_" and this one were created to try to figure out what I did.  _JCaferJr_ got banned already.

I noticed the announcement thread for the site I was promoting is locked.  Is it possible that my actions did that?

It is possible that your actions caused that thread to attract attention it otherwise would not have received and it was noticed that rules were being broken.

If you are sending a PM to someone when they did not in any way solicit such PM then you probably should not send it.

You also forgot extortion, (Blackmailing people into giving you money.)

Also, to OP, sometimes threads are locked for spam, I.e. excessive bumping. Or, it could be as someone else mentioned, your actions may have lead to your thread being locked.
