Title: P2p forever?
Post by: Decksperiment on March 05, 2015, 02:02:59 AM
I hope this is in the right place.. I was thinking.. many ISP's are starting to create havoc by limiting or outright banning p2p traffic, which bitcoin uses. Even gaming is getting a pain in the ass here in the uk.. Is it possible to make p2p appear as other types of traffic, in particular, protocol's that are not banned? Or change the protocol from p2p to something else without affecting the actual blockchain? After all, p2p is only for the transfering is it not?

Yes. You can use a VPN which supports port 443 so it appears to be https.

I know https://www.privatetunnel.com does. The setup files normally supports several ports including 443. You can edit it so only that port is used.

Perhaps it's time to start wrapping bitcoin traffic over http/https?

One should't play on the internet without having access to tor:

Tor was cracked by the nsa, not to mention russia offering grands for someone to do same.. if anyone succeeded, dya think they would declare? Not if paid grands to shut up about it.. and is pointless bloat in my opinion, it slow's my traffic to a crawl.. gonna test this vpn today, but I agree with the 'hidding' of the bitcoin protocol, not for any other reason, than to prevent isp's messing with it, wether intentional or not..

It wasn't and offering grant money to study technology is not very uncommon, e.g. https://www.sba-research.org/research/projects/bitcrime/

"cracked" Tor is a three letter word and so is egg.  Tor triple encrypts your outgoing traffic I doubt anybody has the means to see what it is you are doing online after that.

As for the expected privacy Tor offers, it's anyones guess.  Use I2P or Freenet if you'r not looking for to make your internet usage private.
