Title: WARNING!!! Bitstamp not processing bitcoin withdrawals!
Post by: btcinsight on March 05, 2015, 03:59:05 PM
WARNING! Bitstamp possibly not honoring bitcoin withdrawals!!!

I initiated a BTC withdrawal almost 2 hours ago to 1AYjx3Z5ZAacustSoFN74HKzGiB6NG2gGp, nothing on the blockchain, and the transaction is still marked "waiting to be processed".

Anyone having the same issues?

Its likely they need to refill the hot wallet, i wouldnt go worrying just yet this has happened before.

Hope you're right, but being among the big gox victims, events like that more than quickly raise my suspicions.

I think its a slight risk using them since the hack tbh, there are no other reports from my knowledge of missing withdraws.  Also got goxxed so im very careful now.

Did someone successfully withdraw bitcoins from bitstamp during the last hours? Would be good if that person could post a link to the transaction (bitstamp transactions are quite easy to recognize).

Their support is quite reactive. They answered me that:

Quote
Dear *********,

we apologize we couldn't respond to your ticket in a more timely manner.

The delay you are experiencing may be caused by one of the following reasons:

1) Our system waits for multiple BTC withdrawals to be requested, so it can send them out in a bunch. As a result, all BTC withdrawals from our website are free of charge for our customers

2) The delay may also occur because the amount of bitcoins present in our hot wallet at the time of your withdrawal request is lower than the amount which you have requested. In such events, it does occur that costumers have to wait until the hot-wallet has enough BTC to process

3) A combination of 1) & 2)

Should you require any additional assistance or information, please feel free to contact us again.

Best regards,
Miha Hrast

I guess it's fine to wait a little bit before worrying...

It's only been 2 hours. Wait till tomorrow, if there's no movement open up a dispute. I don't want to see another Gox.

Still nothing... I'm under the impression that nothing will come before tomorrow business hours, at least...

It's probably too early to become panic, besides there's not much you can do at this point...

Hot wallet was probably empty. :D

I confirm the issue is resolved. In the meantime, I had canceled my withdrawal and requested a new one to another address. It finally went through.

They probably should write something about this topic on the withdrawal page. Ever since I've used Bitstamp, I noticed that there seemed to be two types of BTC withdrawals and corresponding waiting times:

(1) very small ones, that went through pretty much immediately (< 1 hour)

(2) larger ones, that seem to require some human 'okay' before they go out (up to 1 business day, but usually takes a few hours)

I guess yours fell into the second category. I personally don't mind the waiting time (if it adds security), but they should probably be more upfront about it, that very small withdrawals are slightly faster than somewhat large withdrawals.

It's going to put people off unless they start being clear about how the system works.
