I really hope some information comes out.  Would love to see some next gen miners.

My 2 cents im thinking the antminer s5+ at 0.38 J/GH to 0.41 J/GH and s2 upgrade and in a month from now the s6. Also the bitmaintech website is down. I also sent them a email on Monday asking about the s5 and they said keep my eyes on the website and at the end of the email they also put a smiley face. I bet we see something soon.

But that was because S2's at the time were still profitable in most places.  Now  that spec gear is on it's way out. As long as they can do it and financially  make sense for them I  think a S2 upgrade is more likely now.

If the S2 upgrades are like the S1 -> S3 upgrades I will be disappointed. I really love the idea of upgrading a miner, but Bitmain will charge too much for it to be worth it again. I hope that they come out with the S6 and avoid upgrades unless they are fairly priced.

they will keep it in 1000w so 3th it will be the maximum :-\

i think i pass and buy an sp30!

Do you know this for sure as a fact?  If so do you know exact speed and watts  used.

Existing 1000W PSU will be more than sufficient.

But it should be less than 0.4w/GH.  (ants on the engineers floor tells me it would be in 0.3x in range)

make the calculation! 0.4w/GH =>2500gh/s 0.3w/GH=>3333th/s

ok ok, maybe a bit over 3th/s :P

I don't see them making a PSU a part of the upgrade kit, it will increase price too much for it to be worth while.

they will not for sure! they expect us to use the old 1kw enermax; and most of us changed/upgraded that psu...
i got an 1350w now

I bought the kit without a PSU and strapped it to a DPS2000. Not sure how much power the backplane is rated to handle.

I would also be quite surprised if they required a PSU upgrade for the new kit. It makes the most sense to limit it to 1000W, 100W per board.  Possibly something like a 3x20 string clocked at 6.4GH/chip per blade, which would give 3.8TH per machine (and, with adequate power and cooling, an overclock potential around 4.8TH). That sort of chip density they might keep for their S6 proper, so an S2 kit would more likely be a 2x18 string clocked around 10GH/chip per blade at 3.6TH per machine, overclock potential about 3.9TH.

Unless they're going to be lazy and use a 1x16 chip string clocked at 16GH/chip per blade, so about 2.6TH per machine.

so, you were the one who bought that ebay item without the PSU. nice move. i planned to bid on it, but was away from the computer as it ended.
I loved my S2 while it lasted, but sold it long time ago to make room for more efficient S3.

No, I purchased one new from Bitmain last July. I had sold a bunch of S1 and was gathering coin for some Habaneros but their last batch sold out about three hours before all my funds were consolidated. It was also the last day to cash in a $400 S2 coupon so I went for it. It's been running one of our prototype-batch DPS2K boards pretty much continuously since then.
That kit's the only S2 I'd owned before about Wednesday. I just fetched a used stock S2 (without PSU), and took another one in trade from a friend for fronting him a loan for some S4. I'll keep one stock for posterity and seek an upgrade kit for the other, for the museum shelves.

Anyone have any idea about how much the s6 will cost? or guesses?

No S6s or S2 upgrades, but they did come out with a batch 5 and 6 S5 today. A little pricy, but they're in stock...

Edit: But some good news - it's the last round of S5 production:
"Quantity limited units scheduled to be sold in the round and it's also the last round of production of S5."

Not quite sure why "last Batch of S5 production" is good news, but I would also take the statement with a grain of salt. It's the last currently planned batches. They can change their mind for any number of reasons, primarily for what's in their best interests. I expect that the statement is there as much to encourage possible buyers to buy them now, and not wait. I expect they want to make sure they don't have any S5's, or specific S5 parts left on the shelf if possible.

S2 Upgrade kit announced: http://www.miningpool.co.uk/bitmain-announces-antminer-s2-upgrade-kit/
That article doesn't do a very good job explaining the upgrade kit.  It states that the upgraded S2 will be able to hash at the same speed and power consumption as the S5.... which would mean the upgrade kit would offer a whole 150GH/s over the S2.  Also, the S2 has slots for 10 boards - which are originally filled with what are essentially underclocked S1 boards.  If the article is to be believed, then what are the other 8 slots going to be used for, if anything?

I'll wait until something official from Bitmain actually appears instead of treating the linked article as any kind of source of truth, because that article smacks of just as much speculation as this thread :).

The article smacks of someone who doesn't actually know hardware attempting to write a qualitative piece about some hardware and doing a bad job with the details. Bitmain's given more info, still not a lot but enough to refine some of the speculation. At least we have the hardware config, and can use that to estimate specs. It looks to be pretty decent, as long as it's also not stupid expensive.
