Title: Send coins to wrong address
Post by: p00se on March 05, 2015, 11:44:24 PM
Ok so here's the scenario. Basically I went to a Bitcoin atm and tried to withdraw bitcoins from my wallet. The atm gave me an address but at the end of the address it had "?amount=2.14". I stupidly deleted this from the end of the key that was given to me and sent the bitcoin. Now when I try to redeem the money the machine says error. Is there any hope I will get this money back? Please any ideas....I feel sooooo stupid.

"?amount=2.14" is not part of the address at all. Removing that shouldn't cause any errors.

Can you share the addresses or transaction involved?

I'm pretty new to this bitcoin stuff. What would you recommend I do. I don't know if I should put the full address on here.

It's OK to post the full address (the one that starts with 1 and sometimes with 3) or the transaction ID (Ex: 2885323a1d1b614c5745...).

You should never post any private key, that usually starts with 5 (Ex: 5Kb8kLf9zgWQnogidDA76MzPL6TsZZY36hWXMssSzNydYXYB9KF)
but that could start with 6 or s depending on the format.

In case of doubt post only the first 7 characters or so. We can guess the rest if it's an address but not if it's a private key.

What address is that? Is that the address the ATM told you to send to?
Did you send to that address?

Here you can see the history of transactions of that address:

Can you see your transaction there?

Where did you send from? What wallet did you use?

Also, when did you send it?

You should contact support and ask why exactly "the machine says error" when you try to redeem.

Your ticket or the ATM must have some contact information.

It seems your transaction ID is 8329152966997dc59cc9979f02b73b6d6b31982589ff3ef004c9724f4c865f21 (https://blockchain.info/tx/8329152966997dc59cc9979f02b73b6d6b31982589ff3ef004c9724f4c865f21)

That should help when calling.

The atm gave me an address but at the end of the address it had "?amount=2.14". I stupidly deleted this from the end of the key that was given to me and sent the bitcoin.

I don't think you did anything wrong as long as you sent the correct amount. The "?amount=2.14" is just supposed to tell your wallet how much to send. The real question is why you can't redeem, since the transaction went through.

Basically I went to a Bitcoin atm and tried to withdraw bitcoins from my wallet.

I'm not familiar with ATMs. What do you mean by "withdraw bitcoins from your wallet"?

There are a lot of transaction associated with the address. This could be a shared address. The machine may have very well be programmed to only have the exact amount of Bitcoins to be credited to the receipt. If the amount is incorrect, it will just ignore it. I think he meant trying to exchange Bitcoins for cash.

If you meant that you withdrew your Bitcoins for Cash, did you get the Cash?
If it is so, I don't think there might be a problem as if you got the cash.
Instead, try contacting the developers and the ones who fixed it there.

I suspect that you confused the machine by sending the wrong amount.

The machine was expecting to see at transaction for exactly 2.14 BTC.  It knows that it told you to send this amount, and so when it sees a transaction for exactly 2.14 BTC it will know that it can release the associated funds to you.

Unfortunately, looking at the transaction that is likely yours, it appears that you sent 2.1474 BTC.  Since the machine is looking for a transaction for exactly 2.14 BTC, it doesn't realize that this 2.1474 BTC transaction is from you.

You'll probably need to contact whomever maintains that ATM (someone needs to be loading it with cash).  They should be able to identify the transaction that you sent and get you your money.
