BTCPoint Creates 10,000 Bitcoin-Enabled ATMs Using Spanish Bank Network

Bitcoin-to-cash withdrawals are now available at 10,000 additional bank ATMs in Spain.

The development is the result of agreements between BTCPoint, major national bank Banc Sabadell and Hal-Cash that will see the bitcoin service integrating with Banc Sabadell, Banco Popular, Abanca and EVO Bank units.

BTC at normal ATMs. 1-2 years ago some of us expected this to happen, now it is real  :)

Does anyone know how many BTC ATMs exist worldwide?

Has anyone used a BTC ATM? Care to share your experiences with us?

Man, this looks like some kind of sci-fi to me.
Another proof that I'm a total loser by not taking part  :'(
The only potential problem is that they may remove this feature if it's not popular enough (it may be a problem with 10 000 atms if they'll calculate popularity by dividing no of transactions/ no of atms).

WOW! This is major news!

And you don't even need to have a bank account to do that...

This is amazing, surprised that it's Spain the pioneer country in doing this and not the leading Euro countries like Norway. Maybe they are getting ready in case shit goes Greek style?

This is awesome news the connections made between BTCpoint and the Spanish banks is leading the way now we just need to increase it worldwide in the coming years which i have no doubts about it will.

Just a 1% fee as well you cannot moan at that can ya? Loving the idea and actually a little surprised the banks are seeing the potential and working with instead of against  ???

I guess they are where ever there is money to be made lol

WOW! This is major news!

Hardly anyone sell their bitcoin for cash, they either spend them or hold onto them

Unbanked people deal with cash already, i don't think this is major news personally

The big news would have been to allow user to buy bitcoin with ATM not sell for cash wouldn't it?

It just seems to be Bitcoin to cash right?
What about the other direction? Why not offering cash to Bitcoin? This should be added if possible.

"Once you send your bitcoin to our address, you’ll receive a text message with a code and with that code you can go to any ATM and receive cash right away,"

This is quite amazing thing and it will be easy .
Just imagine going somewhere and we need cash , we call and send btc and pick the cash in the way.
Freaking amazing , we need more of this.

There would be much fun, spain is a great place to launch nation-wide Bitcoin-to-cash ATM service.

What's most important to me is that you don't need shitty credit cards or anything related to these banks to use this service.

Also nice that they don't charge anything for it. I wish it was available in more countries here in Europe, especially here in Western Europe.

I would definitely make use of it quite often.

Won't happen in near future because of money laundering issues I think.
On exchanges they ask you for a lot of different documents to verify your identity etc.

Awesome service!
1. Will you expand to other countries in near future? If yes, which ones?
2. How come you don't need any ID-verification?
3. How much may I cash out per day in Spain (i.e. how many transactions for the same phone number)?

BTC at normal ATMs. 1-2 years ago some of us expected this to happen, now it is real  :)

This is very good news. However, what they're doing isn't exactly new. I believe Ukraine was the first to do this when they updated the software on 4,000 regular ATMs to accept BTC roughly a year ago:

Quote from: Coinreport.net
So far, most of the attempts to bring Bitcoin ATMs into service have been on a much smaller scale than this, often starting with pilot runs of only a few units. This level of saturation is unprecedented. So how did this relatively small Bitcoin startup succeed on this scale? The trick is that the Bitcoin ATMs aren’t just Bitcoin ATMs. They’re actually conventional ATMs owned by the “National Credit” Bank of Ukraine which have had their software updated to support BTC transactions. By partnering with a popular bank and leveraging existing infrastructure, BTCU.biz was able to leapfrog ahead of many of the dedicated Bitcoin ATM companies, without having to personally raise the capital necessary to put that many machines on street corners.

A service in South Korea is currently attempting the same thing too:

Quote from: Coindesk.com
South Korean bitcoin services company Coinplug has enabled bitcoin purchases with credit cards through over 7,000 regular cashpoint ATMs across the country.

Source: http://www.coindesk.com/coinplug-enables-bitcoin-buying-at-over-7000-regular-atms/

Anyway, it's nice to see that what happened in Ukraine wasn't a one-off thing. Hopefully we'll be seeing more and more countries incorporating BTC into their existing ATMs in the future.

Heck, I've seen some ATMs with fingerprint readers around my home, but this news is equally awesome. Now it is only Spain but soon bitcoin transactions will be available at ATMs in all european countries. Bitcoin revolution is happening.

1. Sure, we are in conversation with many other banks in different countries. It's hard to tell which countries will be next. Our approach is to try to convince the same spanish banks that currently operate in this ATM network in Spain that is allowing us to sell bitcoins, to do the same in the other countries where they operate. For instance, most Spanish banks also operate in Latin America.

2. In Spain all phone numbers should be registered with a valid ID, even prepaid phones. After discussing with the bank the KYC aproach we agreed that for the beginning that would be enough.

3. Currently in Spain you have a daily limit of 600 EUR and montly limit of 3000 EUR

Hopefully it will be available in more countries! When we travel there, just bring our cell phone with bitcoin wallet! It will eliminate the need of credit card and huge transaction fees.

If you read the posts a few above yours you would see that it is more than likely going to be introduced to other country's they are in talks with them now and we will stand by and see how that goes. I am looking foward to buying from them if it is only a 1% above market then that is where i will buy all my coins in future. Good luck BTCpoint and well done :)
