Title: ‘Selfie Trend’ Officially Declared a 'mental disorder'
Post by: irfan_pak10 on March 07, 2015, 12:11:46 PM
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) has confirmed today that taking selfies is not just a ‘new trend’ but a mental disorder.

Officially known as ‘selefits', the mental disease is defined as a ‘compulsive urge to take one’s self and get social approval by posting them on social sites.’

The APA made the baffling discovery during its annual board of directors meeting in Chicago today. According to doctors, taking selfies is one way to boost self-esteem and fill in emotional gaps.

APA further explained three different levels of the mental disorder as following

Borderline selfitis: capturing self-images at least thrice a day but refraining from posting them on social media. Judging from the bombardment of selfies on our social media walls, it means 75% female and 50% male population are demented.
Acute selfitis: The symptoms for this level includes taking photos of one’s self at least three times a day and posting each of the photos on social media
Chronic selfitis:  Overpowering urge to take photos of one’s self  constantly and  sharing them social media more than six times a day
According to the APA, while there is currently no cure for the disorder, temporary treatment is available through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).  The other good news is that CBT is covered under Obamacare.

How many off you has this Disorder?
If you have this disorder please try to avoid it.

Thanks

There is a cure for it just stop using social media for a few weeks job done.

Can you please post a news source properly? I'm getting tired of having to remind topic posters about this, especially if you're talking about this kind of stupid bullshit and EVERYTHING young people do is a mental disorder according to fucking old people, it happened with gaming too and I can guarantee you that it's going to happen with cryptocurrencies.

the American psychological association is aimed continuously by Wall Street... understand where the name come from Wall Street... those should do the intellectuals... do they know what is behind "intelligentsia wiping"? Do they know how it works, in details... I mean the hands in the blood? they have no idea... so no fear...

The only thing that isn't a mental disorder for them is 1 Obey 2. Obey and give your daughters wife gf to the men in charge. that's it. they want their cut of the meat... so they serve the oligarchs in power in the usa (and the west, and most nations having them as models).

It feels more like the American Psychiatric Association found a new Klondike. Selfitis sounds as scary as syphilis, they seem to be really great at marketing their shit.

their plan next is to impose multiple disorder, so they can feed you more pills (with more side effects, to feed you again more pills) forget... all to the KL.

for me the most painfull to watch is those mothers (those just good to spread their legs in hope of some do) that start to believe those "doc" like they were what ever... it's so tragic, and so young kids (or even babies) are already on medication... fucked up... (but don't forget for girls they just want to fuck, they don't care if you have a brain or not).

remember once the soul and the spirit are corrupted the last thing to show of is the body...

I love how most girls in the west love big muscles... I love it, if those youngs have the time to develop their muscles (not for war, otherwise it's the full xp) but for show... don't have the time to develop their brains... push up doesn't improve mental capabilities (in a war, survival is an art).

Origins:   On 31 March 2014, the Adobo Chronicles published an article positing that the American Psychiatric Association had classified the taking of 'selfies' (i.e., self-portrait photographs shared via social media) as a mental disorder:
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) has officially confirmed what many people thought all along: taking 'selfies' is a mental disorder.

The APA made this classification during its annual board of directors meeting in Chicago. The disorder is called selfitis, and is defined as the obsessive compulsive desire to take photos of one's self and post them on social media as a way to make up for the lack of self-esteem and to fill a gap in intimacy.
Soon afterwards links and excerpts referencing that article were being circulated via social media, with many of those who encountered the item mistaking it for a genuine news report. However, the article was just a fictional spoof from the Adobo Chronicles ("Your source of up-to-date unbelievable news"), a Philippine-based web site whose "About" page notes that the nature of their content is creative writing, not news:
THE ADOBO CHRONICLES is your source of up-to-date, unbelievable news. Everything you read on this site is based on fact, except for the lies.

We abide by the highest standards of creative writing and intend to make this site as respectable as possible to the extent allowed by our fertile mind.

moments they live, its much more important for them to document it and share with others, instead of living their life for thir own enjoyment.

I sat on a bus the other day next to a women who took about 40 selfies in about 10 minutes, she then looked through them all, posted a few, then looked through her old selfy posts.

It is at best extreme narcissism, and at worst a mental disorder. I do admit to having taken selfies before, but only so as to get a photo of me and my girlfriend somewhere, rather than asking someone to take a photo (and probably steal my phone). It still feels ridiculous but at least the lady is happy we have photos together.

When I was a kid the TV addiction was discovered. I remember my parents read about it somewhere and decided that since I'm watching TV while eating dinner I have to be sick. Somehow it didn't matter that they couldn't wake up in the morning without a cup of coffee and smoked at least 3 times a day. We are all addicts.

Usually, the smartest time in a person's life happens when he is an infant. Infants learn oodles of new things. Long before they speak their first words, they have already mastered the spoken language of the people around them.

Watch an infant. Infants, especially toddlers who can't speak yet, are some of the most vain people around. They ham it up, especial with other infants every chance they get. They don't care if they have clothes on or not, and usually prefer the "not."

Is this a mental disorder? If it is, it has only become the worst kind in the psychologists who suggest that being a selfie is a mental disorder. At best, they are simply jealous.

Personally, I would tend to think that politics in trying to mold the thinking of people by using some psychological thinking and attitude to make people paranoid about communicating, because it is communication between us all that helps us to understand the mental disorder of trying to rule the world through politics.

:)

I'm not interested in finding out who or what Jaden Smith is.

Psychologists have reasons for what they say, just like every professional field has reasons for what it says and does. As with any other profession that has been around for a long time, there are those in it who believe this way, and those who believe the opposite, and there are some things they all believe in. Politics is the same. Politics often brings us much truth. And it often brings us many lies and distorted views.

Human beings are mistake-making creatures, right from birth, and sometimes before. The fact that a few psychologists suggest that selfie-ism is a mental disorder doesn't mean that psychologists aren't, at heart, selfies as well. They simply are good at hiding what they are just like most other people. Selfies are simply more honest in some ways, even though their honesty in the selfie way may feed a potentially harmful hang-up.

The fact that politicians want to use anything that they can to make the free peoples of the world feel guilty about something, or the fact that they want to find another way to take away freedom by making it difficult just to freely live, is a well-understood truth.

Wake up, joker, and look at reality.

:)

The fact that politicians want to use anything that they can to make the free peoples of the world feel guilty about something, or the fact that they want to find another way to take away freedom by making it difficult just to freely live, is a well-understood truth.

Wake up, joker, and look at reality.

If not mental disorder, it makes people more narcissist and less aware of everthing going on around them. They are there own sun and the world revolves around them. Needless to say, I dont do many selfies.

Do we think that any of this news will stop people from taking selfies in the most mundane and/or public places? We can only hope!

I don't know what it is about selfies that enrages me but it does. What's worse is those selfie sticks I've seen people using. Wtf is wrong with them? Who actually carries a stick around with them just to take pictures. It's nuts.

It's not a mental illness but it's just a reflection of our times given the technology and vanity of youth. They're just having fun and want to capture those times. We'd all probably be doing it if we were in our teens. We must've got old.

Jaden Smith is obviously a modern prophet.... or like MUCHSIN  above he's been smoking too much ganja. Regarding the whole selfie trend I don't see the big issue with it. It's just taking a picture of yourself at the end of the day. In the 'olden days' you had to stop and ask someone to take your picture and now you dont. I think we should focus on more pressing issues to be honest.

Thanks

It is rather strange that such a stupid theme gets so much attention here (have been waiting a few days in the futile hope that it will exhaust itself on its own). I think it is right time to declare discussing selfies another mental disorder. Discussis (or discussitis)?

This is quite possibly the stupidest mental disorder. The disease revolves around people who are self centered or think the world revolves around them.

people posting selfies for approval would have to see how many people don't give a shit lol  ;D

I think discussing selfies and using discuss at the end of a fucking post should be declared a mental disorder discuss :P

But seriously every fucking fad is declared a mental illness or attacked, football, rock and roll, heavy metal, computer games, pop music, the list goes on and on, if only people would show some balls and declare going to church a mental illness because I think that's the most prominent problem people have had throughout history.

It's clearly not a mental health issue. Sure it's probably narcissistic on a small level but taking pictures of yourself isn't a mental disorder. I think people just want to feel important and the rise of social media culture and sharing practically everything you do is now the norm.

The news was unbelievable. It spread like wildfire through social media, instantly becoming a Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter phenomenon. It exemplified what news organizations, advertisers, and companies had chased for so long—“going viral.” What was it? It was an announcement that the American Psychiatric Association (APA) had officially classified taking ‘Selfies’ as a mental disorder. In fact, the announcement also stated that the APA also claimed to name the disorder ‘Selfitis.’

Unbelievable news? Yes, because it was apparently a hoax from Adobo Chronicles, a website who uses the tagline ‘up-to-date, unbelievable news.’ No mention of this supposed new ‘Sefitis’ disorder can be found on the APA website, and has not been confirmed by any credible source..........[Read here: http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidsturt/2014/04/29/the-selfie-mental-disorder-or-insight-to-getting-better-results/ ]
