Can you explain detailed what do you mean by definition of "retail operation"?
As it can be used as regular money already.

For selling food and beverages in a chain of pubs and restaurants. At the moment the option I have heard about seem very slow and cumbersome.

The problem is the conversion rate. I suppose it is like using US Dollars in a venue geared up for only UK Pounds! That is why e need a system which will iron these things out as even small price movements can play havoc for VAT and beer duty.

Yes, but you can add 10% on your product price and you'll be fine.

Have you looked into CoinKite?

I saw some vids awhile back and they seemed solid for retail and POS.

They have a card system which seems high quality and they are already established.

The biggest issue is the exchange rate. If you are working with a low margin, your profit could be easily getting eaten up by a sudden price drop.

That was my reaction also, and it was also done in no-time and super simple, but i think people will soon enough loose that feeling of surprise when someone is paying with bitcoin, who knows maybein the future we will be like : omg, that guy paid with some printed papers, how weird is that ?!
@op just have a big barcode at register, and a tablet/phone/laptop to confirm transactions, and ure good to go.

cheers

Bitpay or coinbase is probably your best bet. Good luck.

Do you want to keep them or have them insta-converted to GBP?

What you are looking for I believe resembles something like a terminal which makes paying in bitcoin becomes as simple as just doing a swipe and then it's done. It's to facilitate retail operation. Read that it's quite popular in Germany right now. You might want to check out the link here about PEY terminals. https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/free-pey-3d-printed-bitcoin-payment-terminals-spreading-across-germany/

Bitpay is what most companies use for converting bitcoin to fiat on purchase. Probably the best bet here.

small or big merchant should just use coinbase or bitpay, for their movement, there is no other best system for now, maybe in the future there will be option to use bitcoin directly, without passing through old/not wanted fiat

I am fairly certain that the OP is referring to a retail physical store, as in someone who is essentially accepting a 0/unconfirmed transaction all the time. I don't believe that coinbase/bitpay actually accept 0/unconfirmed transactions, although they do mark it as 'paid' once the tx is broadcast to their node.

I think that bitcoin might be a bit slow in terms of conformation times for retail.

For ease of usage we would rather have them instant converted to GBP.
