To learn and just for fun, I started hashing on iHash.co with a bitcoin wallet receive number.

I did this for about a week. Since, at this time, my hash rate is so low i do not meet the minimum payout amount for Bitcoin.

Is there a way to overcome this or did I just hash for them?

I think I may have an answer. Their website is a bit hard to follow for me.

It seems I can change payout in user settings to arch coin which has no minimum payout.

At that point I am unsure, but may be able to convert the archcoin to bitcoin at an exchange the arch coin is on.

I know I have just a small amount, but would like to learn.

If anyone has any experience with this or with arch coin (archcoin.co website), please let me know.

Never heard of archcoin, sounds like a low-cap altcoin. Since you have no other choice you should do it though, use a service like shapeshift or bittrex to convert it to bitcoin.

In the future try mining at westhash/nicehash, they don't have a minimum payout (you'll get paid every week). Eligius has a low payout threshold too, but don't quote me on that.

An additional problem has come up with the arch coin in that I, so far, am unable to get their wallet working on Linux (LinuxMint 17).

I have looked at your suggested mining pools and nice hash seems, well, nice.

I have been doing script cpu mining with minerd.

I feel I may do better with x11 mining but do not know which program to use for linux.

Please advise.

Scrypt mining is dominated by ASICs now, you'll make practically no money CPU mining it.
x11 mining is dominated by GPUs, and you'll make very little (but more than scrypt) money CPU mining it.

Try lyra2e, I've heard good things about it.

I do have a graphics card I am working to set up but it may be a while. The cpu is all I have at the moment for experimenting.

I will look at your suggestion or anything right now that may be more suitable for the cpu.

The only lyra2re mining software I have been able to find so far is for graphic cards.

Is there one for cpu mining I can experiment with for now.

How about my trying darkcoin?

There is a cpu miner for lyra2e, but you'll have to build from source. https://github.com/Bufius/cpuminer-vert (https://github.com/Bufius/cpuminer-vert)

Darkcoin is okay for cpu mining, but GPUs get much much better performance than cpus. The cpu/gpu difference for vertcoin (IIRC) is a little less, that's why I suggest it.

If you have no choice go for darkcoin. At least its better than scrypt.

Switch pools. Also, don't use hamsterpool, or you'll enslave your CPU to the will of the uberpool and never reach minimum payout for each of your 162 coins.

I am unable to find a prebuilt linux miner and do not know how to build one.

Please help.
