For those who've been asleep the last few months, this is a portion of the Silk Road funds seizure the U.S. Marshalls are auctioning off.

No necessearly, it depends also of how much these bitcoin are "old". If these bitcoin were stuck in that address for a long time , it doesn't need any fee for send them. However yes blockchain.info works properly for me.

Why does everyone keep saying this?  The amount of btc being sent has nothing to do with incurring fees.  Fees are based on the file size of the transaction, not the monetary size.  That being said, every transaction should have a fee associated with it, not sure why this one didn't.

Nobody is saying a bigger transaction will incur more fees.

We're saying a transaction with few (one in this case), big and old inputs do not need any fees.
It is not true that every transaction need to have a fee.

Read this: http://bitcoinfees.com/
Particularly point 3 "Prioritize old and high-value coins".

Huh? No dude it was not $600 :) Also there will probably be no statement because that was a private auction so unless the buyer comes forward and states how much then we will never know which is fine. If you just make an educated guess you will find the ball park at least within $20 that he paid anyway my guesstimate would be he paid $250 per coin so a total paid of about $12 million/ What do you think?

My fault, i wasn't clear in my message. I meant to say the first auction, back in June/July 2014. At that time, BTC was valued around $600 USD. And that was won by Tim Draper.

The recent auctions, it has been speculated that the bid prices were between 10-20% under current market value.

Even if it happened, it wouldn't be sent to a random poor fellow, it would be sent to an address that will probably never be used, and lost forever.

That said, if by some chance it really IS sent to a used address, I'm sure they'd hunt the guy down and make him return the bitcoins.

Its so simple, if they send it to the wrong address, they just track the address owner down and seize it under Civil Forfeiture Law.

Or if that transaction without fee can't get confirmed, they will break down Bitcoin network or seize satoshi and ask him to take responsibility for this. :D

Just kidding.

It wouldn't make sense to dump all those coins.
The price would go down and the winner of the auction would result in a lose.

Wow, to me it looks like two people teamed up and bought the lot, now that the deal is done, they seemed to have split the BTC. I am sure they will use a coin mixing service from here on in so people like us cannot track the BTC back to their owners. My guess is Tip Draper bought half of them and the remaining were purchased by the Twins. Can't say for sure though. :)

Great! If this remains in the account without getting spent, means it is good. It will squashed all rumours about the coins getting dump which I think doesn't really make sense for someone who bought with such large quantity. And I see that going into one single account which the winner is only a person or a company?

Don't think so. I read somewhere that someone didn't get them after putting a bid of 221$/coin. So it must have been a few more dollars that other would have bid to win the auction. I am merely speculating. Just wanted to know the exact price. Do post here when the actual figures come out.

Sorry if it's been answered but I only skimmed through the first page. What were these coins sold for? Please tell me it's going to cover for the $300 difference.
It's probably sealed under secret, they aren't forced to disclose the price that the coins sold for.

Yes that is obvious but maybe the winners (or someone of him) will tweet something, as in the old auction. We have only to wait a couple of days and we will know the name of (at least) one of the auction's winner.

why wont they disclose the price? That's the basic part of being transparent enough so that people can know that they didn't sell the coins for a low price. If the price doesn't get disclosed then the people who were incharge of the auction could earn a lot by taking money from the bidders and giving the coins to them for less price.

Well, I should think a degree of financial privacy would be accepted. Why do you have to declare your personal financial matters to everyone?

The only people who needs to know those details, would be the tax collector / government and your auditor doing your books.

I am sure, nobody wants to tell thiefs and hackers about the big stash of coins they bought from a auction, and being from a controversial origin {the coins} it might become a target in future.

I think, I would keep it a secret too...   ;)

Ahh fine.
If the tax collectors and the auditors know then its most probably fine.
