This thread could go forever.
If 100 members answer your question it's likely you will get 100 different answers.
Short answer, there is just more buyers ATM.

Best to ask this question in the speculation thread. Its mostly because the interest is increasing and the number of buyers are increasing as well.

I think a lot of people held back to see what the auction selling price would be and when they heard that the selling price was above the market price, they started to buy again.

Most people expected a drop in the price, if someone {non-hoarder} bought the coins. If you buy above the market value, you will have to hoard, to make a profiit.

So most people might buy before those coins come flooding the market and exchange, and the price might go down anyways.  :(

This is just a assumption not a fact...  ;)

most likely, weak hands are out, and now only smart traders are left

more people are holding and some are buying along with the whales, therefore the price will rise, so simple

it is the simple question of supply and demand, as the demand increases the price goes up.

and i think recent good news on bitcoin and also accumulation by whales is the cause of it too,

it's going to be very interesting these days. will we go over $300 and will it stay above that.
people are bullish currently, so that might help a lot.

Why is it rising? Why is it falling? I see these two questions asked all the time here. My question is why do you need to know? Somtimes it rises sometimes it falls but it's always just due to demmand.

Hey, don't be that rude to the guy, huh... Anyways, everyone has the right to ask and know anything they don't understand, and as he's a newbie (and you too), it's better to ask experienced people so they might know what is the cause for the asked question. :)

@OP,
The only thing I can say is,
The sell-offs have been cut-off dramatically and buys are taking place, I am expecting to see some lower high buys before talking for any higher highs.

I think some people were fearing that the silk road bitcoins would be instantly dumped however this has not happen and there is a number of buyers now.

Yes, and not just limited to that, but there were ~34 bids during the auction which is a better number than the ones held before, and as this was the last one, it was hyped a lot that this might make everyone see BTC below $200 somewhere, but it is now surprising to see it bullish.

Why is it rising? Well, if you put too much yeast and wait, and you'll have it rise up and up with many many bubbles inside. Wait too long however, the bubbles will collapse, and you'll end up with some mushy dough.

If you are saying that BTC crossing $300-$400 might be a bubble and will collapse, I feel that's why you are a newbie...
Just learn dude, it was once $30 and came down way back to $5, is it still $5 today???
I think my question's enough to answer you...

Sigh, some people are really too sensitive to bears. Being too stubbornly optimistic isn't helpful for bitcoin. Why don't you take a look through my posts? You'll realize that I am quite bullish on bitcoin in general. But no, anything that sounds slightly bearish will be met with ad hominem.

Speculation, mostly. Since last year it is possible to profit from falling prices (shorting) with new leveraged trading tools. This is what speculators have used as much as possible as long as the price was falling. Now we seem to have founds a bottom and thus it is more profitable to go the other way (up). I like it!

I didn't criticize your statement nor did I offend you, just wanted to say what I said in my comment...
I ain't over-optimistic as I too know the risks behind speculations, the only thing I got you were trying to say is, this is a bubble so don't get into a trap, but I don't think it that way as if it might be, not everyone must be saying that "Weaker hands are out and so, people will hold instead of dumping".

Continued growth, continued investment, continued excitement. Can't keep a good thing down ;D

Getting near all silkroad coins being sold is a good thing too. That's been a shadow for quite some time. It'll be interesting to see what happens when they are all finally sold.

because people realized that the $200 was the lowest it could get, no one is selling and mostly people are accumulating again. so the price is going to go up for now

Investment into bitcoin is now easier. You have traded funds which will instantly allow you to invest in bitcoin's future without directly buying the coin. Increased adoption which leads to higher demand will certainly drive the price upwards. There must be fresh funds pouring in or else it won't go up as fast as what we saw today.

I wonder till what amount will that be true. Because if its beyond a particular level then it might crash and come all the way down.

Most of the people are people who already were in Bitcoin before the rise. Like people said, the bottom has been found. But there are also good news coming these days and it sort of gets caught in a feedback-loop. The media talks about BTC going up, so more people join, etc...

some people would say it was the bidders trying to get lower prices for the coins

Have no idea why price is going up, but sure is nice seeing all those "bitcoin is dead" articles going away. :)

Some might say that they were merely trying to push the price down, knowing well that Bitcoin isn't doomed at all. Many bears aren't stupid, they're merely trading according to the market - like you should!

When you already know BTC you will know how to profit despite a fall or rise. All you have to do is learn and you approach it.Then you can decide which way you like. Do not Think why he can rise or fall. Profit or loss is common. The important thing is how you increase profits and reduce losses

Bitcoin is up because the demand is higher than before. Also, good news are spreading in the masses, and with it = more and more demand.

price is rising because people are not that afraid of the bear market, so are buying more btc.
