Report as many posts as you can. If there is a need of a staff, you will be choosen as patroller at first, most probably. Then you may get promoted as mod of a board.

For local boards, PM theymos. He may make you one if there is a need for one.

Edit: From above link,

Good report history, posts and actions that show you understand forum policy, activity (and when you are active could also play a part in it, mods at certain times could be more needed than others), etc. Being a good poster or trustworthy doesn't mean one would make a good moderator.

Finding mods for foreign language boards presents unique challenges, so there's no real set way to go about that. Sometimes it's by polls, sometimes it's just because a certain person has expressed an interest in moderating the board (either by their actions, or by "applying"), etc. It tends to be a more community driven decision, because acting like you know someone because you used google translate on their posts is dumb (though foreign language mods do need to be able to communicate with us in english).

If there is need for a local mod. Mitchell became mod by PMing theymos.

First, a need for a moderator is realized in a specific section, Theymos then looks over people's report history, as people who report posts and have a decent ratio of good:bad reports show that they understand the forum rules.  After that, he will contact the best candidate to ask if they would like to become a mod. If you choose to accept, you then have to pass a written exam. If you score high enough, then is on to the physical portion. All of the moderators circle you with oak planks and beat you about the head and chest. If you are able to stay on your feet after 2 minutes, you are then able to pass to the mental section of the test. We find the most infuriating people to assault you verbally. Keep in mind there is no holding back. If you have any shameful secrets, they will come out, and no one that you know or care about is off limits. If you have not snapped, you are a "Plebian" a "junior" moderator accepted into the circle who must triumph over a few more tasks before you are finally ready to get the Staff title, and become a publically known moderator. Each task is different, some times its as easy as fighting a lion using only non carbon based materials. Sometimes you have to break into fort knox (thats my favorite one), or maybe prove the existance of extraterrestrial life, or solve the world's monetary issues. Once done with your task, you will emit a faint glow, and your limbs are now able to grow back. You are now a full fledged moderator.

 ;D

Sorry I couldn't help myself, everything before the "If you choose to accept" is the real answer.

Why would you be discouraged? The way to become one has already been addressed here several times but there are no guarantees and if you stop reporting then that's not a good sign as there are many users who will continue to do so and it is likely they will be the ones chosen when/if we need more mods.

I already reported more then 1200 reports and have good accuracy of 94% too. But last 1 month not reported much. Just some otherwise mostly reported report on market section was mine. Will try to encourage myself and starting report again.

Well there is no magic number but there are probably a few others with a similar or exceeding figure as well but not reporting much will likely put you further behind for the possibility.

Sadly not, I wonder whether I passed hilarious yet. Id imagine since hes a mod now he can act instead of reporting.

Still have to report everything that isn't in my sections (minus newb posts/reports on them) though most of the stuff I was reporting was in the sections I now mod so I'm sure someone could catch up.

You shouldn't be reporting posts just because you want to become a mod, you're helping maintain the forum with what you're doing already. The truth is, as long as the reports you make are being dealt with in a timely manner, there isn't much of a reason to expect anything to change. Reports are fairly straightforward to handle and it seems like all the non-local sections are pretty well maintained at the moment.

Also, speaking from experience, those who actively try to become mods don't usually make very good ones. Surprisingly, those who don't consider it until they're offered the position make the best ones.

I already reported more then 1200 reports and have good accuracy of 94% too. But last 1 month not reported much. Just some otherwise mostly reported report on market section was mine. Will try to encourage myself and starting report again.

In beginning I was also doing for helping forum. but later when Theymos posted stats about report I got encourage and was thinking to become mod.
So I was doing extra for reporting. But now I am normal again don't care if I will become mod or not. If I see wrong thread I report.

Reporting isn't the only factor, anyway theymos will only bring in new faces if there is demand. At the moment the moderators seem to be doing ok. Although, I'm not sure why someone would be so eager to be a forum moderator, it's a tough job. I report frequently and have to take small breaks because of how much time it takes up. Imagine doing that every single day, dealing with hundreds of posts. It's stressful. You've got to be made out of something special to become one. Maybe you have to eat some bear meat, I heard the paws and thigh of the bear are considered the best parts.

Sure everyone fantasizes about becoming mod, but it's not as easy as it seems. I'm not saying they don't enjoy it because I'm sure they do. The attitude your carrying isn't a great impression though, if you want moderator you got to keep at it, even if you think theymos as got aa grudge against you. Someone who keeps sticking at something even though they don't believe it's getting them anywhere, might just be that special type of person. But what do I know.
