Title: Beware New Altcoins
Post by: Neonecrox13 on March 10, 2015, 09:28:05 PM
I've been on this forum for a year or 2 now, and lately they are a rise of peoples BCT accounts being hacked or something crypto related being stolen. The last 2 stolen accounts I have seen have been because of some altcoin where the dev has implemented a trojan into the wallet. Why not? Its the easiest way to get someone to download their file.  They are releasing some shitcoin, building people up with promo's, then BAM! you just got hacked!  Here's the latest one I read.

Make sure before you install a new coin's wallet, scan that fucker. Takes 5 minutes of your time and saves countless posts and arguements.  I'm gonna try to keep this thread updated with the threads of infected wallets. If you see or have any proof of any please repost here for others sake.

Thanks for the warning. If anyone sees any malware, please report it. Permabans are pretty much only given out to people who spam and were banned multiple times previously, and people who post malware.

i'd suggest using a vm for altcoins (with linux use lxc... it doesnt use much resources)

scanning imply's the scanner already knows about the problem

Theres not many people that's gonna buy a VM subscription for a personal wallet.

That's not the point though. Even though free, less than 2% are going to set up a VM for their wallet.

yes i know... but running multiple softwares from different unkown and untrusted sources on a machine which has access to money is just asking for problems...

i know i cant change the world: but if a thread like this pops up i can at least remind some people that it is a good idea to use it.

Your are correct sir. And thank you for your input. Hopefully someone takes the thread to heart and saves themselves the troubles associated with what happens when u dl a trojan or other virus.

I think it is good to post in Altcoin general board(if you haven't) because many of the altcoiners don't go outside(especially Meta) except local board(s). Posting there would help many than posting here.

There is already a thread about trojan wallet thefts. But this is a good warning, I was unaware of this. Thanks for the heads up.

You can move your own threads yourself. Look down the bottom left of the thread.

We miss you around here. 10k just recently had a malware client posted by some other person quoting me and changing the links. Only download from trusted members

I think he means like to move it to a sticky in the alt coins thread. But there is already the trojan wallet warning in the market place somewhere.

I was recently looking at what coins I owned but did not actually have a wallet I trusted lol. Bascially dogecoin and mazacoin were the only ones I would DL the wallet for on my main system. I have played many coins where I just kept them on the exchange cause I was AFRIAD of some crazy obscure and unvetted software having a keylogger and stealing all my btc or something. Anyways, I think thats a sign. I am gonna focus on investing in the two above mentioned coins I actually trust the wallet software for, as coins where ppl don't even wana DL the wallet have minimal chance of adoption beyond the speculator market.

it's not surprise me at all, really. these new coins with new accounts on btctalk, no string attach. no lose but much gains from creating these new scam coins, plus the trojan. still, these dumb moron bagholders going crazy and worship a new rat on the block, even though we already know this is an old scam rat!

Since accounts can still be bought and sold without recourse, there is no reason to trust seasoned users anymore.
