For now this offer is for only Poland. Which it is a little surprising thing. But I guess Poland's have quite big bitcoin user base compared to other european countries. cafucafucafu, I have to stop your 'moon price' assumptions. Simple pre paid phone cards for bitcoin are not enough to shaken bitcoin price that much. Most people won't use and and the other half doesn't even know that is possible yet.

I must not have been paying attention this is the first time that I head T-mobile accepted Bitcoin and was even offering discounts for mobile customers
Kind of neat actually and I hope it succeeds
From the article it was a three month test so possibly just a promo.

That is fairy good news not as good as other news lately but that is good news, shame only Poland sure there are more people who use t-mobile in the uk that would take them up on their offer but at least it is a start and step in the right direction that is a nice bonus '20%' Wow  8)

Now THIS IS NEWS!

A major company promoting bitcoin spending? I like it! How much does T-mobile pay in fees to process automatic transactions to credit and debit cards? That's how much they'd be saving in this process...although I can't imagine that it's more than 20%.

Maybe the person in charge is a holder?

Seems like a great use for Bitcoin; I'd imagine that, especially in Eastern Europe, companies like t-mobile lose a pretty penny to cc fraud. If their losses have been that significant, it might be more than a special introductory offer... Now, if they'll only roll that out in the US!

Nice of t-mobile to add in bitcoin payments seems my idea is coming to light for mobile providers to accept bitcoin and have a use with mobile providers to pay via Bitcoin and crypto currency. Would be nice if you could also pay via Bitcoin for your contract and not just pay and go options. Would be a lot of happy people including myself to have such an option.

This is only for customers in Poland as of now. I personally think this is a very strange move to make on their part as Poland is not exactly the most competitive nor lucrative place to be running a cell phone company (and as a result they would not need to be offering such large discounts).

I am very interested to see how or if they expand their bitcoin payment options and their incentives to their customers for paying in bitcoin

Why do you think it is strange? Poland is like 5th or 6th country in Europe by counting the number of population. Their bitcoin acceptance level is even more higher than in other more populated European countries already. I find information that in 2013 there were 56,52 millions of active SIM cards in Poland. I do not think that is a niche market at all. And the reason for big discounts is because of intense competition among mobile operators in Poland.

That is awesome. To be honest they don't need to offer it at 20%. Anyway, seems like this will also help bring in people to the Bitcoin scene.

The 20% extra credit for using bitcoin - is it only a time limited promotion?

" Customers who use the bitcoin top-up service will also be rewarded with an extra 20% of calling credit during the trial. "

-So thats a yes, limited time only. The bitcoin payment option can come quite handy, now if they would just offer that option in other counties of the world, and
add an option of sending credits from phone to phone, with a cashout option, there would be a whole new market for buying/selling bitcoin also

cheers

I thinks its a testing phase and not a promo.
That is not the same thing right?

From what I heard, T-mobile is testing Bitcoin as a payment option for 3 months.

Pretty sure its only a temporal promotion to boost Bitcoin use. It wouldn't be profitable to keep it all the time like that.

No matter if it is only limited time promo, that is great for bitcoin. T-Mobile is big, and i mean BIG company which operate worldwide so if that promo succed in Polland and bring some new customers to T-Mobile i bet they will make something like that in other countries. It looks like test to me and i hope they will succed.

This is what major company's do first they use the test phase you are right which they are doing now in Poland, if this works out and it is what they are looking for they then release the payment method to other parts of their company if it carry's on being successful they will be sure to integrate it worldwide, well at least where they believe it will benefit them. If all works out by about the end of the summer then we should see it most places by then which is very good for bitcoin if that turns out to happen..

A 20% discount won't last for years, but still better than nothing. I hope T-Mobile Austria joins them.

I agree with you. Any discount counts :)
I hope also T- mobile Croatia will join.
Any way, this is really great promotion for bitcoin, wonderful news for all of us.
I hope other ''big'' merchants will follow as well.

Note that T-Mobile isn't a Polish company, it's German. I guess they're testing the waters, and that they may do it in others countries if their program is successful in Poland.

According to inpay blog (they are processing btc payments for t-mobile) the 20% offer is set for 3 months, not necessarily accepting bitcoin itself.

This will be great news really.
T mobile have branches in many European countries, including Croatia, so I really hope they will start this promotion in all countries.
Great way to use BTC, any way.

Wonder why they decided to choose Poland for accepting bitcoin payments? (not that I've got anything againt Poland :))

Great if they decide to roll this out across the EU, being able to topup burner phones anonymously would allow a lot more privacy. One more finger in the eye for the NSA.

Yeah it doesn't seem sustainable globably, so its for polish people only and a limited time type of stuff.
