Title: A list of defaulted loans (list of scammers inside here)
Post by: John (John K.) on August 05, 2012, 11:47:29 AM
I've noticed that some newbies coming to this subforum do not realize the amount of scams we're having here. Hence, I'm proposing a central thread, listing all defaulted/failed loans in this subforum stickied on the top. This should give us a rough estimate of lending scams we encounter per month, and serve as a warning for people getting in the lending scene. It'll be easier for theymos to pinpoint the alter egos of the scammers here too (as I presume most scammers operate using multiple accounts - just take a look at HonorMe and co.)

Do take a look at Tomatocage's thread to educate yourself of the scammer situation we have on hand here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=119896.0

Not too sure to place this in Meta or in the Lending thread, so I'm placing this here temporarily. ;D Placed here

Thanks to PatrickHarnett for the spreadsheet generator!  ;D

ETA: This hasn't been updated in half a year, but includes some defaults, as well as lendees who repaid on time. All loans with "Were Payments Late" marked as "N/A" were repaid (AFAIK), I just didn't ask senbonzakura if each individual loan was repaid on time exactly as the contract specified. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Ao892S4MOoDZdHNzNzVYdVg5UVhybHJMRlJTelBuTUE&output=html

I got hit by lxFlasHxl for 2 BTC with a repayment date of 8/25/11. Don't feel bad for me, though, since I've long since made it all back from the other limited amounts of lending that I've done.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=88453.0 5BTC

Add TheLastDovah. He scammed me out of 4 BTC and owed me 5BTC (due to 1BTC of interest) in bad loans. It'a likely he could be using alt accounts.

Hello John,

This is the first one:

kingpin26, Jr. Member, BTC 98.7874 (2 loans)

Thanks!
Celso.

Added snapman to the accusations thread a while ago, forgot to mention here, please add to the list.
Borrowed 20, to pay back 22, paid back 2.64.

Snapman Received scammer tag 09/14/12

Could Zack be added to the list?

Total loan 3 BTC.

Updated main thread with your list. I'm still contemplating if a sticky could be justified for this though..better ask Maged about this.  ;D

A few more modifications, it'll get there (I use spreadsheets to build mine).

Note that the "Wezzy" line can drop the "Australia" reference - He lurks on a BlackHat forum under that name.
You can add godchronic if you like - they're still dodging requests.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=90788.0

Updated. I could use a spreadsheet to handle this and it'll be really easier, but people are lazy to click links. I also want Google to pick the usernames up and spreadsheets are not searchable.

Those were all defaulted on for over a month -- the ones from senbonzakura, anyway. I don't think I've seen any of those people ever reappear and I tend to be fairly active in the lending forum, so probably fairly safe to add the lump of 'em. (of course, on the same page, since those people have not reappeared, they're not using the same accounts, soo.....)

I simply took the figure from https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnzolfvAaL97dGlQZjZmcFMwTzlmbWJNUHdyZnM4M2c#gid=0 . Not too sure whether to use the Distributions sheet or Balances sheet though.

You must have included the USD values too then; that would explain the discrepancy. Since the USD value fluctuates, I would suggest excluding them.

Additionally, since some paybacks have occurred, I would write the value at 2211.07786728 (the one I used at my thread).

I simply mentioned all that for the sake of transparency. In either case I was scammed out of 4BTC in bad loans to TheLastDovah so he should be added as well so others know not to trust him.He also stopped using his account altogether a day before payback. He's probably moved on to another account by now.

That default is a late payment, not a lack of payment, as bitlane will eventually get his money back (not at the promised time, but eventually). This thread seems to be for lack of payment.

Correct. Only confirmed defaults (lender disappearing) is added here.

If the criterion is "scammer", then whether or not Pirate belongs on this list remains to be seen, but he did default:

In finance, default occurs when a debtor has not met his or her legal obligations according to the debt contract, e.g. has not made a scheduled payment, or has violated a loan covenant (condition) of the debt contract

Even if he repays Bitlane at some point, he still defaulted.
Just sayin.

Too much ambiguity on that, so I'm basing this on either nanotube's bet result or Matthew's bet result to determine whether to add Pirate here.

Is Andrew a minor?  Did his mother sign for his debts?  If neither of these are true, then dox'ing her here is uncalled for and shouldn't be supported.

Per Maged, he seems to have made off with 200000 BTC. Much less than the paper loss of 500000 BTC, but still very significant. I believe this surpassed, even if only slightly, MyBitcoin in terms of USD value stolen.

For the record, at this time no completely valid estimate seems to exist. Maged's blockchain analysis reveals 200000 BTC as an estimate, and paper loss reveals 500000 BTC as an upper bound. Aside from this, I don't think any definite values are known.

he owes me 31 btc in principle and 5.83.  has never made a payment.  loan began on 8/5, 9% charged each 5th of month, payments due each 10th of the month (8/10, 9/10)
he seems to owe starsoccer 31 as well

paybtc had no right to deprive me of the opportunity to negotiate or whatever directly with pirate.  That's why he deserves a scammer tag.

on top of that....pay.btc hasn't even responded posted in this thread for roughly 2 months (since September 06).  On TOP of that he has disabled his website... (without any explanation AFIK)

perhaps pay.btc was scammed just as hard as us lenders...but i don't believe for a second he hasn't made major $$ with his venture and i don't think it is acceptable for him not to keep us posted here in his thread with info.

i only put an initial 10 btc in.  probably got under 2 BTC back from interest gathered - that puts me in the hole for <8btc.

I know this is probably negligible to 90%+ of other users.... but pay.btc should take the total amount he MADE from our INITIAL deposits from every user (and subtracting any interest payed ) then dividing that amount by total amount of accounts and send that figure to each user.

Am I out of line here?

I want this thread or any better thread which clearly says in bold letters, forcing users to read more than 1-2 times, that a lot of scams can happen in Bitcoin, so BE CAREFUL.................

This must be the 1st post, a member MUST read once they register this forum.
It may affect Bitcoin reputation or future or what ever it is, but it will at least help newbies not to get scammed instantly.

As I've argued elsewhere, pay.btc would have breached his agreement with his depositors had he forwarded anyone's information to Pirate. His agreement with his depositors was not in default and is not in default. That agreement still controls how repayments from Pirate are distributed.

As for the lack of communication, not only is there nothing to say, but there's not even the remotest chance this has harmed anyone. There's been no recovery from Pirate yet.

I agree with you that he probably should return some profits to his depositors, but I don't see how him not doing so could be considered scamming.

I think what you need here is a database...

People enter the amount/details into a simple front end, THEN it is approved for viewing by the moderators.

It's going to be way less work, plus you would be able to sort by name location/ amount etc, plus it could then be linked into the forum membership fairly easily

very good idea, simple, and could be easy to use.

I've wanted a similar "scammer database" for a while.  they could share a common base.

Spreadsheet database

Trouble is anyone can post anything there, while here you need to be registered on the forum...

If you were scammed by someone and know where they reside (at least broadly), I will pursue them within 100 miles of where I live. I'm never one to "jump the gun". I'll do some recon work first. As far as approaching the subject, of course I will not do so with any sort of violent weapon/threat. I will, though, approach them at a moment they can't possibly make a run for it (at their place of work, with family, etc). I am 100% confident I can get them to pay. If what it takes is regular visits, that's what I'll do. But I don't think it will-I'll corner them at an extremely vulnerable moment, they'll have to pay up (I'll even let them use my computer ;) If they don't have the funds (not "I don't have the funds"-of they actually don't ;) I won't leave until a payment plan is worked out. And like I said, if it requires check-ups, I'll do check-ups. I'm actually excited at the thought of this. I just graduated undergrad and am thinking about mastering in Criminology and become a private investigator.
Of course, I can't tell you how much I would charge for the service-there's far too many variables. It would all depend on the work and time required. Although, keep in mind that I'm aware I'm not a Private Investigator...I'm just a college grad-for now. If a case is simple, I'd just ask for a fee. If its not and requires "check ups", etc, I would ask for a small percentage of the balance due.
So, if you've been scammed by someone you know resides in Southern California and want to do something about it, send me a PM!

I have someone for you.  They live in the LA area.  I will dig up all the details and send you a PM.  I have written off the entire debt already so if you can get me anything at all it will be much appreciated.  If you get them to pay you can use this as advertising!

I am pretty sure pizza has no intention to give me my 4.4 Bitcoin
(lent 4)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=234452.msg2619702#msg2619702

he now starts a "Newbie group buy"
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=250492.msg2659802#msg2659802
So I think he should get a scammer tag soon.

I can provide ?his? passport with a note of lending me 4 BTC to an administrator or moderator to prove that he lent me the coins.
At the moment I am quite busy and haven't got the time to deal with him, but I would like to know if its ok to release info from this passport to prevent other people from giving him a loan if he creates a new account.

If he has defaulted on the loan, it is OK to release his information.  This activity is done all the time.

Please read the thread in it's entirety.

I have never scammed or stolen anyone's identity. I am a new member and understand why Lophie got "scared," but if you read my post on Lophie's thread you can see I am straight as an arrow.

I have PMed Lophie and hopefully this will be resolved tomorrow.

Thank you.

Vod Is Abusing His Power

Much of the trouble is caused by Vod. I am not the only one he has harrassed, and he does so incessantly and without proof.
If a Mod wants to get involved I would be very grateful. Vod trolls me and is attempting to cause strife in my borrowers by posting untrue neg feedback on me, which he has changed at least 5 different times to fit the lie he is pushing at the time. He also posts in threads of my borrowers trying to scare them. He did this to i3lome's loan thread and was unsuccessful. The loan was funded in it's entirety by me.

Personal Attacks By Vod On Me and My Religion

Also, Vod has made personal attacks against my religion. As a Christian, I posted in the defaming thread Vod made about me in the lending section that I would forgive him if he stopped lying, in the face of evidence that I never did any of the things he accused me of. His response was saying I was a member of a cult (referring to Christianity as a cult).

Quote from: Vod referring to Sunday Church
I doubt he'll see it.  Today is "reassurance" day.  Members of his cult will gather together and chant and sing to try and convince each other they are not crazy.   Roll Eyes

Quote from: Vod
Since my name was mentioned, I should point out that AndrewWilliams has publicly stated he is in a religious cult and as a result of that membership he has no moral compass.  He scams and lies, then rubs his hands together, prays to his god, and walks away with a clear conscious.

Honestly, Tomatocage, I know he helps you go through the lending forum to find potential scammers, and looking over his posts and feedback, he does a good job [most] of the time. It's unfortunate however, that he has made the wrong assertion regarding me, and refuses to correct it.

Completed Loans

Please be fair and see that I have only made two loans, but both are successful:

One to i3lome for 4 BTC, and one to russianbusinessman3 for 3 BTC. Both were funded by me. I admit I fund late sometimes (1 day), but that is because I am new to Bitcoin and still getting the hang of transferring Bitcoins using Localbitcoins and the wallets. This is basically what happened with Lophie.

Vod's Untrue Negative Feedback

What really irks me, Tomatocage, is that Vod has changed his neg feedback on my trust profile to this lie:

Quote from: Vod
(updated) This user is an identity thief. He PMs users in the Newbie forum offering to lend money. Users have reported he asks for social security numbers, bank account info and passports. If you post negative feedback he will do the same to extort you to remove yours. He also claims to be working with a lawyer but no such person exists. Finally, has admitted to being in a cult, so will not have any moral issues with stealing. BE VERY CAREFUL TRADING WITH THIS USER.

1. He says I am an identity proof when this is not true and their is no evidence to support it. In fact i3lome has refuted this to Vod directly, but Vod ignores the facts.
I have never asked for social security numbers, ever. I have never asked for bank account info or passports. Lophie, being outside the USA, offered his passport as ID, and I obliged.
2. I have never PMed anyone in Newbie forum who has not started a thread requesting a loan. In fact, the only PM I have made on the newbie forum was to russianbusinessman3 who started a loan thread, and who I successfully loaned to, all public record in the thread.
3. No users have reported I ask for social security numbers, because I never have asked. Please check my PMs, outgoing and ingoing, my posts, and you will see nothing of the sort. I do suspect Vod setup a sockpuppet account and sent himself a PM saying something of the sort to try and incriminate me, but this is easily exposed by looking at that account and seeing I never even contacted them.
4. He started harassing me on i3lome's thread when I answered his baiting question. He asked me why I felt confident lending i3lome even after he rejected lending to him. I stated I have a friend who is an attorney, and was going to help with a contract. Upon me saying those words Vod went on a rampage saying I was a scammer because I was lying. In an extortion like move, he gave me bad neg feedback, only saying he would remove it if I had my friend contact him. I let him know this was an unreasonable request, and I was not going to subject my friend to him, after he defamed me without cause. After all his defaming, I was still able to loan i3lome the amount he requested.
I was fair enough to tell Vod, that if he really felt me saying I had a friend who is an attorney gives me an unfair advantage in lending, I would remove all references to it. Instead of answering me he locks the thread he started just to defame me, and calls me a scammer.
All this, and the fact is that the loan with i3lome was already agreed upon before I mentioned my friend. Classic baiting by Vod.
And really, is the bar set so low, that saying you have a friend look over a contract, who is an attorney, that improbable?
5. Saying I'm in a cult is seriously hateful. He has already stated he hates religion, but this is no excuse to say I am involved in calling my Christian religion a cult. This is just inflammatory, would not be tolerated in an office setting, and should not be tolerated online.

I thank you for your time Tamatocage and trust you will be fair.

I would like to move on from this and continue lending to the Bitcoin community. I do this for fun on the side as a hobby in addition to my full time job. I never thought I would be attacked like this from someone who is in a position of trust in the community (Vod), but unfortunately that is what happened. I hope for a positive resolution and to continue helping people :)

P.S. If you would like to talk on the phone, I will gladly PM you my phone number. I am a businessman, so you can imagine how dealing with accusation of scamming is definitely a shock, and not conducive of my nature. Thanks again for your time.

Sorry it hurts your feelings princess, but Christianity is a cult.  Go look up the definition.

I would think the weekly brainwashing would give you a thicker skin.  :-\

The rest?  Absolute BS.  Consider the source - I won't feed this troll further in this thread.
