Title: Who are the main Asic Hardware Vendors?
Post by: Cryptonite on August 06, 2012, 12:49:02 PM
Asic technology seems to be a very hot topic especially in context of mining operation advancements.

But who are the main developers and manufacturers of this hardware?

I’ve read everything about Butterfly Labs, including the substantial amounts of speculation that surrounds the project.

We all know China, Japan and other Asian countries are at the forefront of technological manufacturing even when it comes to virtually carbon copying products.

Surely there must be plans from other entrepreneurs to follow up on this technology?

Integrated firmware/software solutions justified the term development, appreciate your feedback!

So far only Butterfly Labs is working on ASIC for bitcoin mining. And they still have to deliver their product...

Only butterflylabs releases a product to order prior to it being manufactured.. everyday after october first they should start paying interest on the loans they received.

Do you think ford could get away with selling you a 2015 F250 now for only 100% down payment....

There is also this:

OpenBitASIC : The Open Source Bitcoin ASIC Initiative (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76351.0)

But there hasn't been an update since April.

It is a common known practice to offer pre-orders on various products and services across industry (Including Ford lol; http://www.north-county-ford.com/inventory/2013fusion-preorder.php/ID_northcountyford) but I can certainly understand from the moment communication becomes obsolete between any vendor and customer, this creates inevitable conflicts.

I am personally sure, as well as many others that Butterflylabs will deliver, the question really is... when?

The nice lady appears to be working quite hard...

Pre orders is one thing with a deposit.. I would have ordered a handful of Jalepenos if it was something like a 10-20% deposit on my order.....

but 100% seems rediculous.. I could deal with losing 10-20% but not 100%.....

Sorry, but in that case I can completely agree 100%, never knew a full deposit was required upfront...

But let's be positive and hope it all was worthwhile!

P.s. Besides, Jalepenos are nicer on Pizza's

not only full payment is required (100% isn't a deposit imo) but they require it in a non reversible payment method.

only a few of us seem to think this is suss ;)

If they have those funds escrowed, so that if they can't deliver working hardware that is as described in the time promised, then they have the funds to return to customers and that wouldn't be much of a problem.

The widely held presumption though is that they are using these funds to finance the R&D and fab and manufacturing costs, and thus your deposits become capital at risk without you knowing and that not being your intent or something you were willing to partake in.

That being said, if they do actually deliver anywhere near the performance levels they say they will and ship anytime near the target date they've shared, then not a single person will likely have anything bad to say about any of it.

Well if that is the case, difficulty will go up so high. Having 3.5ghash will be like having 350mhash now :P

My guess is that this will be a flop and this forum is going to be one pissed off place come the end of October.....
