What do you guys think?  Should we be worried about Google banning Bitcoin apps?

Google ‘experts’ to screen Play apps and updates for explicit and banned material

Google has announced that it will start an official human-based screening process for all of the apps featured in its Google Play store, in a bid to “better protect the community” and “improve the app catalogue.”

The search giant revealed yesterday that a “team of experts” would be reviewing apps and all updates offered across the Google Play platform for those which violate Google’s developer policies. The team will also give direct feedback to developers on what they need to do in order to fix their apps before they can be listed on the Store. A dedicated review page will allow developers to gain further “insight into why apps were rejected or suspended,” as well as offering them the opportunity to “easily fix and resubmit their apps” for those who have violated minor regulations.

I think it is a good thing to have a pair of eyes on the code to the apps that are in the google marketplace since the apps are not open source for all of us to see. If google doesn't want bitcoin apps in their store then they will get rid of them and we can just download the .apk's manually/directly, one of the best things about my android phone :)

If google would be against Bitcoin, they would have already banned the clients. They don't need to look at the code for that.

I don't see any reason to worry, they are just reviewing malicious content and if they wanted to remove bitcoin related apps then they would do this long time ago.
And this is actually good way as  this will stop anyone to even think about making infected wallet in order to steal money from users as it will be monitored from now on.
Seems like good news to me, what about you?

To be honest Google Play is cesspit of badly written and sometimes malware infected application. This screening can be only a good thing.
Google seems to be "positively neutral" or somewhat supportive on bitcoin, so I don't think that they would ban crypto applications.

I dont think Google is doing that to harm Bitcoin, they just want to make aplications on their store more secure and get rid of malicious apps. Bitcoin is still too small to we have to worry about Google banning Bitcoin apps from there.

I don't think google are against bitcoin ! For example we can convert dollar to bitcoin in google search :

So even if google play apps are checked I don't think they will remove bitcoin related apps unless the app violate google laws.
Also the verification of apps would be a great step for android

It's not about whether Google is against Bitcoin or not.  It's whether the banks can put pressure on Google via this new screening process.

I don't think additional screening will affect bitcoin apps, if Google wanted to remove any btc/crypto related apps I'm sure they would have done so by now.

Getting rid of most the useless apps on Google Play would actually be a good thing ;)

agree! Google is focusing on the improvement of the standard of the apps and the elimination of malware, virus embedded apps on his App Store, which will increase the user experience of its android system, in order to compete with IOS. It is not against bitcoin IMO

They're probably constantly under pressure from every old school institution in the world. Look at all the screaming from record labels and film studios. Not much has been done despite their having huge amounts of government support and resources.

Unless the App is used for adware or it's made to spam users with faucet referral links or any other malicious purpose, I don't see Google having any problems with bitcoin related Apps. As said above they treat it like an actually currency. I was reading up on these articles some time ago, by the looks of it, we may be able to pay for our Apps with bitcoin soon - hopefully.

“We are working in the payments team to figure out how to incorporate bitcoin into our plans,” wrote Google Senior VP of Ads and Commerce Sridhar Ramaswamy at one point in the email exchange that Malik forwarded to me. He promised to get back in touch “when we are a little more sure.”

Bitcoin seems to be a growing part of Google.I hope Google and Square are eager to release this as I am to use and see it. I'm sure you've heard of Square taking bitcoin into consideration and actually integrating bitcoin (https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/why-square-bitcoin-integration-big-deal/) in 2014.

Google and Square announced Thursday that they were working on new payment systems that would be able to accept Bitcoin. The move is expected to heat things up in the payments market in general, and with Apple Pay, in particular. Google is currently testing the new payment processing method that will be known as Plaso while Square is working on the hardware terminals.

Regarding the screening of the apps on Google Play store I think it's not a bad thing because with the increasing interest in bitcoins and their value people would try to upload malicious apps that could try to steal your coins disguising as fake wallets or games.

I doubt that we should be worried. This was long due from Google. The Playstore has a lot of crap in it, duplicates and such. They need to purge it to improve qualify.
I do not think that we will have a problem. Maybe if the reviewer is a person who really dislikes Bitcoin, but then we could just complain to Google.
As long as our apps are nicely made, following all rules and regulations we should not have any problems.

This. I think that Google has an open mind towards Bitcoin, although they've yet to endorse it to the full extend.
