Title: What hardware brought you ROI and some profit?
Post by: adaseb on March 19, 2015, 07:45:16 AM
List what hardware made you ROI and if it made you any profit.

1) GPUs: When I first got into mining a year ago I started with GPUs. ROI was suppose to be 2 months but turned into about 6 months, and the last 6 months was very little profit. However they got ROI and most of the GPUs were sold at 50% from the retail price. So in the end what looked like a huge loss turned into some marginal profit.

2) Antminer S3+: When BTC/USD crashed at the beginning of the year approaching $150 USD. I managed to get a few miners for the cheap. They got ROI very fast at just a little over a month. I am still making good daily profits off them. I bought them used, didn't pay retail.

3) KNC Jupiter: I love these miners. Many were getting rid of them locally because they are very power hungry. I love how they are rock solid, stable, and they are almost silent. I got ROI of them just under 2 months and they are still making me good daily profits. They were bought used, didn't pay retail.

My best ROI was gpu's.  It was a 3 month return for a while.   It was fun to build the machines yourself aswell.  Only bad thing was twords end GPU's kept going up in price, so last ROI was not as good on getting money back.

The nice thing though about GPU's was there was always a decent market on ebay for resell since they could be used for things besides just mining.

I made ROI with GPU than bought some USB miner. Lost all my ROI  :P and then bought Antminer S1.
Did a lot of BTC with S1. Its was the best ASIC to get ROI if you knew where to get it cheap.

Now running 1 S5 and 1 Avalon4.1

I have ROI but Im lucky with electricity fee.  ;D

How did you get ROI so quick with an S5?

Well Solar power. But my solar system was already ROI so.  ;D

And I have a fix price for the rest of my electricity.

I just have a limit of 60 amp.  :P

It is the GPU's for me. But I didn't really mine bitcoin with it. Found it more profitable to mine altcoins with them.

I made profit with GPU too. ASICs are expensive and often used before they are shipped to you, if you are in EU or US you must pay customs and expect long delivery (20 days max), once you can't reach any ROI ASICs are useless, GPU can be easily sold or used in other ways (gaming anyone? ;D )

Only hardware I've ever purchased that brought some amount of profit was definitely the good ole GPU's.  Oh if only I had a time machine :)

Only hardware that brought me direct ROI before resell is the original Antminer s1:

That thing belongs in the museum of natural cryptography or something.  Anyone that bought these late 2013-early 2014 ROI'ed...sweetest 6-8 months ASIC mining I ever did... :'(

GPUs, had 8GH at the end.

Avalon Gen1, B2.  Was one of the lucky few included in the "test" shipment.

S1, all achieved ROI and made profit.

S2,  one of five has paid itself off.  If I'm lucky I'll break even on the others.

I bought 3 KncMiner Jupiters that the end of 2013 that provided a nice profit.

Those were the good old days when you could ROI in ~3 months and actually mine a decent amount of BTC each day without having to consume an insane amount of electricity.

The downside was that hardware purchases back then were a major gamble. No in stock ASIC hardware was available, so pre-ordering was the only option, and many hardware companies either didn't deliver or delivered very late.

S1 (x2) - bought in early March last year.  Mined with them up until I sold them.  Profit.
SP10 (x1) - bought as part of May group buy last year.  Mined until July then sold it.  Combination of mining and resale made the profit.
S2 (x1) - bought in May last year, mined until July and sold it at the same price I paid for it.  Pure profit.
S3 (x9) - bought them in the early batches (1,2,3).  Still mining away and have long since paid for themselves.
U2 (x5) - bought in February of last year.  Still plugged in, but they solo mine.  Probably never going to make back what I spent :)
