Title: Work PC problems - HTTP request and inability to download
Post by: theGECK on August 11, 2012, 07:09:35 PM
I'm having two issues mining from a work PC. Don't know if I can get it to work, but figured I might as well post to find out if we can solve it.

#1 - The GUIMiner download for the latest version isn't working. Don't know if I'm the only one having this issue, but Chrome give me the error "Download Error" with no more information, and IE says that I need administrative permissions to "make changes to this file". Except I'm this computer's local admin. Also attempted to get the file using a fetch feature from OpenDrive which will download any file not behind any password protected areas into my OpenDrive account where I can then access it online. It gets to 132b and then fails. Anybody else having this problem?

#2 - When I try to use Ufasoft or Minerd, I get the below errors:

Ufasoft
Code:
Error 80072F88:  The HTTP redirect request must be confirmed by the user

Minerd
Code:
[2012-08-11 14:03:52] 4 miner threads started, using 'scrypt' algorithm.
[2012-08-11 14:03:52] JSON decode failed(1): '[' or '{' expected near '<'
[2012-08-11 14:03:52] json_rpc_call failed, retry after 30 seconds

I'm sure that my workplace is monitoring internet access for compliance with standards/whatnot. Are these errors representative of that, or am I looking at something else? Is there a way to get around these errors?

EDIT: I see that the boards have changed since I came here last, and this should probably be moved to the "Mining Support" subcategory. Sorry for the poor post, everybody. Is it possible for a mod to move it, or should I just recreate?

I'd prefer not to just throw up a red flag to whomever is watching the network by sending out BitTorrent traffic, which is almost certainly blocked except for specific IPs within the organization.  If there's another troubleshooing step somebody can think of, I'm all ears.

EDIT: I can use the bitcoin client and download all blocks that way, if that makes a difference.

Its possibly being blocked by your organizations firewall, maybe not the specific program, but the port is.  Many of the pools use ports 8332 or 8337 almost by default, which, if its anything like my company, are blocked by company firewalls.  Some pools are able to accept through port 80 which is regular HTTP.  If not, you will need a proxy redirect in order to get work.  Thats what I currently have to do with one of my setups.

Do you know which pools accept port 80? I currently have accounts on Deepbit and Slush's pools, but I don't see anything in their documentation mentioning that they'll accept port 80 connections.

ABCPool and eligiust.st work on port 80. I know them off the top of my head.

quite a few pools, I'd even say most support port80 mining these days :)

I'll have to shove port 80 in there and see what happens to the ones I've already got accounts at and have used before. The pools area only listed one (in the stickies) that specifies port 80 mining, and that's PPS which I don't really like (personal preference).
