For me it was 2013 when it was worth just above 1000$ seeing how the value had gone from under 1$ to over 1000$ was just so amazing, I though it would just increase more and more :P
Anyway i'm really glad i started using it, so when did you first hear about Bitcoin and what did you think about it? :)

I have heard about bitcoin in February 2011 because I was in the university study computer scientist and physic.

2011?! Have you bought some of this that time? If yes then you are rich now! (Myself heard of it since mid-2014, but I own my very first coin at 2015)

I heard of it at late 2013- early 2014, however I don't trust in it at the beginning. Starting at early this year I started to gain trust and so I am joining the community.

Some point in late 2011 or 2012. A friend heard about it and got really excited, and brought it to my attention... At first, it made no sense to me at all - i was like "digital money? You mean someone could just find their wallet file, duplicate it and have twice as many coins? Yeah, sounds like a great idea"...

Over time, I learned more about it and started gaining a legitimate interest. We (my friend plus one other) combined our funds and build a GPU rig and mined for a bit, then we went on to become some of the first orderers from BFL... Still took a year to get product, but our miner was received in July 2013... Then, watching the difficulty rise, I convinced them to sell (we had a few jalapeños we bought for $149 i believe... maybe $199...), and sold them each for between $800 and $2000 on eBay.

Haven't mined since.  But yeah, I've been watching this for a while...

I first heard of bitcoin in 2013. Back then I wasn't paying much attention to bitcoin and thought it is just small internet curiosity. In early 2014 I created my account here on bitcointalk and since that time I am here.
Now I wish I knew  about bitcoin in 2010 or so...

Late 2012 / early 2013 was when I first heard about bitcoin, I think wikileaks had just started using it for donations (due to the payment blockade).

Wish I'd done more research into it back then, only glanced at bitcointalk and wrote it off as a fad.

I think i heard it way back in the time before it was worth even 100 USD. Too bad I saw it always being talked about next to criminal activities therefore ignored it all the time. Damn journalists.

I heard about it pretty early on from a post on Hacker News it seemed interesting and I downloaded it. When the blockchain download started I had no idea what was going on. I left it all night and in the morning saw it still hadn't synced. So I uninstalled it. :(

I kept hearing about it on HN and through a friend who used the Silk Road. On the rise up to $200 I got really interested again and actually began using it.

January 2013 upon finding out about Seals With Clubs poker room.  I bought some btc to play and upon finding out more about btc I bought more to hodl.  That was before the first bubble of 2013 :) :)

I heard about it when some mainstream news tv channel (forgot what one by now) made a small mention of BTC when the price exploded at 1K surpassing gold.

I don't know at what time exactly, but I remember it being around $10 back then. I remember thinking "$10?! That's a lot." and never bought any. Oh the pain...

I got to know about bitcoins in 2013 but wasn't interested in it as Bitcoins are not legally recognized and there were only faucets and coinad from where I could earn bitcoins. Later in 2014, I came to this forum and started learning new years of mining bitcoins and earning bitcoins for small jobs and campaigns.

I've heard about in quite a long time ago actually. I've heard of it in 2010 and I only jumped on the train in 2011. After 2011, I completely forgot about it until I got reunited with my wallet at the end of 2012 when I was cleaning up my externals - boy, was I happy when I looked at the balance, I was going to do a full format on the drive, thank god I didn't - After the reunion, I joined the forum in 2013. I always read over the forums, I never thought to myself that I would sign up. I'm not really a talker.

2014 early autumn... colleague at work told us we should all buy hashlets cause its the next big thing... And I bought some... damn... I was lucky enough to nearly get even. But I know a lot of people lost money in this scam...  :-[
Later I was tricked by some shills on this forum to buy into AMHash scam and this time I lost some... Not much, but still...

At the beginning of 2013 when I was buying private vpn and saw Bitcoin as a payment option. Great day to me.

For me i heard about it in 2012 but never paid much attention to it until i see a friend use silkroad and that totally amazed me to the point i had to learn more, i am a little gutted i never tried to learn more when i first heard about it but the old saying is true better late than never.  So op did you buy in at $1000? That must hurt if you did at least you are still here. I love bitcoin and i won't be going anywhere now :)

I first learned of bitcoin at the beginning of 2014. At that time, I was browsing in my friend's blog, I saw an ad about bitcoin, and then I asked him.

Back in early 2012 in some gaming/tech news site I saw it being mentioned briefly, ignored it since it was linked to drug/criminal stuff as well :(

It was at January 2013 maybe in the end of 2012 but i think it gets my attention at the begining of 2013.

In 2011, my internet friend told me he developed a BTC wallet in IOS systam, but Apple rejected his wallet application because Apple is against BTC relevant apps, especially wallets.

I'm regret I didn't buy BTC at that time, I could buy a shit tons(1K+) of BTC, but I didn't. I even doubt BTC could be non-sense.

And in early of 2013, BTC went up significantly, I bought some, about 100USD. After that, it went to 265 USD, and went down to 50 USD in a week.

I'm pretty sure I saw one or more brief mentions of bitcoin in the 2011-2012 timeframe, probably in articles in geek/computer news sites like Wired or something similar. But only brief references that made no impression at the time. After Christmas 2013 I was pondering the characteristics of fiat currency (and the dollar in particular), brainstorming about how it could be improved upon, and at that point the headlines about bitcoin topping $1000 forced their way into my consciousness. I realized bitcoin could be very much the sort of thing I was envisioning as a superior alternative to fiat, so I started looking into it, made some comparative assessments, and within a few weeks was mining altcoins and jumping into crypto.

If you bought about 500 BTC those days you will become rich now.

I heard about it in 2013. Which I had heard sooner!

I heard about it the summer of 2011 when it hit its $30 bubble. I was confused as hell by wtf it was for a good 2 weeks, then started mining w/ a single gpu and learning and every day since then continued to be in awe of its utility and whoever designed it!

Browsing Youtube, save a "what is Bitcoin video", clicked it, fell in loved. That was about a month or two before the big bubble.

I first heard of Bitcoin back in 2010 on a YouTube video suggestion on the side. I never bothered taking a look at it though. It wasn't until about 2013 that I saw news about the massive rise in price for a Bitcoin. That was the point. I looked into Bitcoin and was interested. Then, I stopped early 2014, because I was thinking: I can't make a profit. No point for me. So I stopped. I just got back into Bitcoin again just about 2 weeks ago.

Ouch if i heard about it in 2010 i would likely be financially safe in my early 20's which would have been lovely but instead i got here late 2013 and if it was not for trading and doing my thing i would be down a fortune but as it goes i am up a little but could only imagine 'what if' 2010 thousands and thousands of coins and never sell them all   :-\

I got into when a friend was looking for crap on silkroad and i watched him and could not believe what i was seeing able to get all that in one place did make me laugh and also very curious how it would work so i did and i was hooked, (on the tech) been here since trying to learn and earn as much as i can.

I heard it from my friends who accept Bitcoin as payment 1 year ago while bitcoin is hitting around $400 I think, I know I'm late for the party.
Thanks to faucet who let me play with their bitcoins at first, now I understand how Bitcoin works ;D

I first heard about bitcoin when it was seeing a lot of media buzz at around the 1200 dollar price range... however, i actually invested in bitcoin much later than when i first heard about it.

I have a bit sad about this. I heard about Bitcoin  March 2012 but I regret I were not interested in about it.

About 2010, and every time I saw it in a news article or some message board posts somewhere about it kept rolling my eyes, thinking "Yeah, Whatever. Doubt it'll go nowhere." Then I bought my first miner in September 2014. Missed the boat the first time around... hopefully I didn't miss the only boat.  

I heard of bitcoin while making money online with Liberty Reserve. I were not interested in Bitcoin. I remember that there is the site which give 0.1 BTC as a salary for post 5 ads everyday within 5 months. After 5 months post ads they will pay 0.1 BTC. prices of BTC at those days about 100-110 USD

I heard this month of march and I'm very late to cope up.

I forgot about the month but first time i hear about bitcoin in the year 2014 when the price reaches $600 per bitcoin

i hear bitcoin from my friends on facebook last year.
he's posting that we can make money from bitcoin, so i look after it on his blog.
and after i know, i can make money from bitcoin, i look more information about what is bitcoin. and i really love it.
the idea and the concept is very good.

When it was $10...
Didn't buy in because I thought I had already missed the bitcoin train.
That same year I got into Gold mining and bought a claim, did good, paid for itself the first year.
A few years later, in 2013, sold my mining claim to buy mining hardware as Mt. Gox was crashing.
Next year, I will be going back to Gold mining but will also have a bitcoin mine.
Today I mine Bitcoin, E-Mark and DigiByte for an investment.

I have heard about bitcoins in 2013 from a discussion in another forum.

I first heard about Bitcoin in 2011, when the exchange rate was around $0.10. But I didn't took it seriously and waited for 2 more years to purchase my first coin. By then the exchange rate was 1BTC = 10 USD.

Yeah same, I also heard in 2013, rather it may look bitcoin word on a banner ad on when I'm browsing. And when it bitcoin prices are rising up again the high-end high in 2013.

With a little curious and until now so hooked and fell in love with bitcoin.

At the end of 2011 in a conference. However , I didnt look at Bitcoin until May of 2012.

Its price was just about $ 5. And really moved from to $ 10. Good old days...

I can't remember the exact time but I think it was early 2014 with all the news coverage about Silk Road. That definitely caught my attention and I was hooked since then though I didn't buy my first coins until a few months after. I was doing some research on bitcoin and the best ways to buy.

Beginning of 2013, forgot about it for a bit, and then rediscovered it towards the end of 2013!

I heard it at July 2012. Its price about 10$. But it seemed to me very speculative, so I did not make any investment.

Not sure when I heard about it, got my first transaction in november 2013, do know I was watching to buy a coin, then arround $ 70,-,  waited for my paycheck to come in, the moment it did, it went up to $1000,- that was a bit of a downer for me, shouldn't have waited :P
But did embrace bitcoin and have been looking for ways to contribute to the bitcoin economy, selling my service as a cartoonist, chasing another life goal which is getting paid for what I like doing the best, drawing cartoons :)

I knew of it since 2012 when a friend gave me some faucets to clic..I am so much retarded for not buying a few hundred btc then when it was just over 1 dollar. I will be kicking myself in this lifetime forever because of this but it seemed way too techy and nerdy back then for me to really grasp the idea behind it. :'(

A few months before i heard Max Keiser mention it, though really digital currency has past most people minds before BTC came around

it was purely the Complete Cryptographic package combined with Networking Strenght that made it so successful

E-Gold has apparently made a comeback too of the back of Bitcoin
