Title: CBC looks at the Silk Road
Post by: Portnoy on August 16, 2012, 03:30:36 PM
I just saw the CBC ( Canadian broadcast corporation; Canada's most trusted source of news ) on tv do a story on the Silk Road... well it was a "quick hit" or whatever they call those brief almost-filler type pieces.

They briefly touched on Bitcoin and Tor.  I did a quick look on the web to find a video clip of it. I haven't found it yet, but they covered the story more fully on their website.

Canadians among top participants on illegal drug website (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2012/08/16/online-drugs-silk-road.html)

I've been waiting to see when/if The Lang & O'Leary Exchange (http://www.cbc.ca/news/lang-and-oleary-exchange/index.html) will do a story on Silk Road and/or Bitcoin.

I find it funny how the article is distinctly anti-drug, where the comments are all pro-drug advocates, I wonder how long this split will last.

I say 20 years tops.  The "legalization/decriminalization/regulation" vs "continued failed war on drugs" have a significant age bias.  As the boomers start to die and their influence wanes policies will change.  I am not just talking about 18 year old stoners.  Even in the 20-40 year old, non users demographic there is a lot more support for realistic drug policies.

Between 8:30 and 9:00 AM Alberta time as part of the general news flow on CBC News Network. I think the anchor's name is David Cochrane, who seems to be filling in for the regular person who does that time slot ( Suhana Marchant? )  who is no doubt on summer vacation.  It is the type of thing that will perhaps be repeated throughout the day during the "CBC News Now with Carole MacNeil; Reshmi Nair or whoever" slots.
