Title: Multiple wallets in a computer with out giving dizziness, nausea
Post by: dishwara on August 24, 2012, 12:05:14 PM
I don't know, its already done are not.
So, I am asking here.

In the original client the wallet to keep money is named as wallet.dat.
If i need to have 2 or 3 wallets in same computer, then i have to rename it, check it, un rename it..........

If i have 3 wallets, then i have to rename 1st wallet to check the amount in 2nd wallet.
Then have to again rename & copy, paste.....................
Just thinking it makes my head spin.

I just want the default client to name wallet as the user wishes.
The owner must have the ability to rename or give any name to wallet.dat for to have multiple wallets in same computer.

If some one has 4 wallets then they must be able to create or rename the wallets from Bitcoin client itself,
Like cold.dat, hot.dat, online.dat, offline.dat...........

I see this feature is already in multibit & also may be in other clients, but all are in alpha state.
Of course even Bitcoin original client itself in beta stage.

But I want this function must be included in main client itself, as users now force to have more than one wallets to secure data(Bitcoin money here)

If its already there, please someone give me a link.
Thanks.

The latest code in the Satoshi client can do it under the hood, it's just not hooked up to the UI, as far as I know.

Try VanillaWallet (http://vanillawallet.com) for managing multiple wallets. It keeps it's own wallet & chain files in the current working directory rather than a single default home directory. Yesterday, I was running two VanillaWallet instances (each in its own directory) as well as the Satoshi client.

It's just a single small file to download and run (no "installation" for exe or jar download), so it's very easy to move around. If you have any questions, see the discussion link on the site! (I'm the developer.)

Consider Armory.  Despite the load times, Armory is pretty darned stable now and handles an arbitrary number of wallets -- in addition to all the other features (wouldn't you like it if you only needed to backup each wallet, once?).   It's technically still "alpha" but it will be officially Beta soon, and most users treat it like it's Beta+ already.

EDIT: I agree, it needs to be in the main client.  But until then, looking into alt clients might save you the nausea
