Yup.  Well single gpu cards.

Can't run 5 5970 or 6990 ;)

Sure. You should be able to do that. Let me ask though...since in the title you use 'GPU' and in the text you use 'card'. Are any or all of the cards dual GPU?

I'm running 5 GPUs (3 cards) on Win7 x64. I had to use 11.12 though, I would get BSODs logging into Windows with 12.X

What you need is

Windows 7 x64
11.xx drivers

12.x drivers don't support more than 4 GPUs.

odd, since I have 5 running on 12.6 and win7 64.

That's a change then.  I can confirm that 12.1, 12.2 both BSOD.  They must have fixed it in later versions.

Thanks guys.

Using 6 single GPU cards on a MSI Z77A-G45 on Win7 x64, 11.12 drivers, 2.1 SDK. Would have 7 but the board turns off a 1x slot if the adjacent 1x slot is populated.

x64 will do up to 8 gpu cores.

yeah 8 gpu can be used at once but not many boards will ALLOW you to use 8 gpus. Got 890-gd70 and can only use 5 of the 6 PCI-e slots, it turns off a 1x slot if PCI 1 and PCI 3 are populated.

Thanks.... I'll be running 5 on each rig....

If you're going to go for 8, you're going to want 4x dual gpu cards.

yeah sorry "guy" I was only referring to single GPU cards, and the added expense of buying those expensive cards! easier to plug in 4 dual cards than it is to actually get 8 cards on a single board. and ya gotta give props to anyone who takes the time to get a 8 card setup running, Win or *nix.

Use risers and its pretty easy ;)

I am stuck....

How the hell can I do this with a 890FXA-GD70... has a total of 6 PCI-E slots...

with 3 cards on the board and 2 on risers....

Do I have to use certain slots if I am running 5 cards? Has anyone out there used 5 cards on one of these boards ?

Can someone please tell me if I have to short any pins on this board when using 1x risers?

when running 5 single core cards which slots do you use? which slot out of the 6 would you not use?

Any issues using 1x to 16x riser in the 16x slots?

Thanks

I believe the GD70 has a thing where you only end up getting to use 5 of the 6 slots, the last slot ends up being disabled.

AHHHHH this makes total sense. so the last 16x slot would be disabled...

What about having to short pins using 1x to 16x risers?

Well the 890FXA-GD70 has been known to catch fire around the VRMs due to low power phases (4+1) versus 8+2 on higher-end boards.  But that's only if you were overclocking and using 125w TDP CPUs.  ;)

Yeah I don't touch the CPU... I am having a hell of a time getting 5 cards working on this machine.... I have tried every possible combination.... I am going to burn a fattie and take a nap, this sucks.

I have been trying to get 6 cards (or 5) to work on my rig.

6x 7970 on an asrock H61DEL which has 1x PCI 16x and 5x PCI 1x

So far I can get cards working in every slot, BUT only if 4 cards are plugged in at any given time.

If I plug in a 5th or a 6th card, device manager shows them with a little exclamation mark.

If I try to mine I get a BSOD

I have tried the following drivers with no luck
11.x (doesnt work with 7970)
12.4 (BSOD)
12.8 (exclamations in device mgr)

Anyone had ANY luck running such a combo?

I've got gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 motherboard, which has 2 PCI X1 and 4 PCI X16 connectors,
I've got 2 ASUS 7970 MATRIX, 2 Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X and 1 Powercolor 7970 V3 (together 5) GPUs.

No matter what I do, there's always 1/5 GPUs that gives code 43 error when I look in the device manager. First I thought that there was something wrong with one of the specified,
but now I see that every card works if there are 1-4 connected  and one of them doesn't if there are all connected.

Can this be resolved or do I have to buy another motherboard?

Thanks for help
