Fred Pirate Ride Sat 21 April 2012
by GregK » Wed Apr 18, 2012 9:19 am

Ahoy, pirates, bucanners, freebooters, corsaires,

This Saturday's Pirate Ride may be sailing from a different port. LBJ Park in Stonewall, to be specific. Looks like another gale-force day, similar to last Saturday. If only we could reef our sails.

Forecast points to gusting winds from north and northwest. I suggest two possible routes. One is the Sandy loop, probably ridden counter-clockwise. The other would incorporate Cave Creek and then up towards Willow City and meandering back via Wahrmund-Ahrens and North Grape Creek Rds.

I am looking for 1.5 to 2 hours of steady, more-or-less earnest cruising up and down hills, mostly to burn some calories and stimulate mitochondria multiplication. For those still interested in crushing hills in advance of West Texas climbing, well, my period for that training will have passed. (I may punctuate the group ride with some individual TT efforts once back at the park, as a final fitness honing effort before beginning sincere tapering for the Big Event.)

Open to other suggestions and comments. Hope to post a more concrete description tomorrow, or Thursday at the latest.

And by all means, if some Pirates prefer to ride out of Fred proper, please don't hesitate to post a "competing" ride.

--Greg Kagay

None of this proves anything of course (the standard no mexican hitmen disclamer applies) but it is an interesting lead.  :)

From this it seems quite plausible that GregK merely knows pirate/his dropbox.

This is not private information. Pirate posted that Dropbox link on a public forum. The individual in question maintains a blog about himself. I do not see how simply reproducing that material might offend privacy as you appear to imply. As always on the internet, you are the sole responsible for what you put on the web; the web doesn't force you.

OP may well be correct.  It's the fact that a conclusion was drawn at all that people will find offensive, especially when you're talking about attaching an identity to the potential theft of what looks like may be about $5 million.

I think OP is very likely doxxing the wrong person.

That said, if I were you I'd be more interested in the 500K BTC theft, than getting consent.

To rule out the possibility, someone should definitely give GregK a call, or get the police to give him a call.
I'm sure Greg wouldn't want to get involved in some enormous theft and fraud case if he indeed is not involved.

Make an inquiry into if/how GregK knows Trendon Shavers, at a minimum.

Does anyone know more about Brandon? (brandon@s2expert.com)

It seems perfectly plausible this GregK guy received that link from Pirate. I didnt read all the transcript, but why do you assume GregK posted that file in that dropbox account?

Also, there must be a thousands of gregk's.

The basic idea is good, but the execution was a bit overkill.  :P ;D

I suppose accusing random person X of being random person Y (a known axe rapist)
while posting his person X's picture, address and pictures of his home on a Google indexed public forum is kinda... bad.

Still, this thread had good leads. I hope OP moderates, sanitizes and restores his post.

Well, first, I'm pretty sure "slander" isn't a crime.

Second, the word you're looking for is libel.

Third, a suit for defamation would require OP to be negligent in his publication, or knowing that it is a false statement (doubtful).  I think negligence may be provable, depending on the care OP took in his research.

In short, there are several hurdles to leap.  And if one is going to say, "OP is a slanderer," does one not subject himself to the same cause of action for defamation of which he accuses OP?

Again, the word you're looking for is libel.  Second, falsehood isn't the standard you'd have to meet.  You'd need to prove at least negligence, and possibly recklessness on the part of OP.  And to extract damages, you may need to prove that the man in the picture suffered somehow.

seems like all the shill accounts are always active in some mining or buying or selling mining stuff, then get into lending.

Send him a PM, he was online today.

For the record, this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=86839) is the best way of closing threads.

You never did fix that bitch!  ;D

I think I figured out how you broke it. I also believe that you're not planning on fixing it.

Well, first, I'm pretty sure "slander" isn't a crime.
Second, the word you're looking for is libel.

IANAL and depends on jurisdiction obviously. But there is case law suggesting that  posts on forums like this are more likely to be slander than libel and that one cannot libel against an anonymous or even semi-anonymous forum nick.

I think he is pretty real and maybe independent of this mess. He has an ebay account with good reputation:
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=crazyblane&ftab=AllFeedback&myworld=true

Last item he sold was from Piano, Texas: http://www.ebay.com/itm/290733465887

Also, he has an account in heatware: http://www.heatware.com/eval.php?id=77178

Here his location is Allen, Texas. It seems someone who deal with hardware.

I think pirate was *very* involved with mining at his beginnings (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=48692.0), then he led towards selling bitcoins (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=51202.msg609864#msg609864). And finally, he found something related with buying debt: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=53977.msg643376#msg643376

I'd like to know more about these cases.

That seems to run counter to my knowledge of it, but that may have more to do with the fact that this judge, a pioneer in defamation laws making something written a potential slander when it was always considered libel before, is in the UK.  Littleshop and I are in the US.

How is a newbie with a single post able to post outside the newbie section? ;)

I'm guessing a forum admin knows yokosan?
