Title: Question: What altcoins should be added to the upcoming B&C Exchange?
Post by: BCExchange on April 30, 2015, 04:45:56 AM
Announcement thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1033773.0

B&C Exchange, short for Blocks & Chains Decentralized Exchange, aims to be the Reddit of Bitcoin exchanges – simple, reputation-based, and easily accessible to everyone regardless of geographic location.

It will be the first decentralized exchange that can be profitably owned by its users. Equity ownership in B&C Exchange will be held by users who own “BlockShares (BKS)”. Users will pay transaction fees on the exchange with “BlockCredits (BKC)”. You will not need to own BlockShares to use BlockCredits, and vice versa. Profits from the sale of BlockCredits will be returned to BlockShares holders through a Bitcoin dividend mechanism in the protocol.

As part of our development, we want to find out which altcoins should be supported on the B&C Exchange trading platform at launch. We encourage you and your respective communities to let us know what altcoins you feel are the most innovative, dynamic, and worthwhile. Our goal is to have several well-supported cryptocurrencies available for trading on our release date.

The ones in the top 5 of having the most transaction + trading volume + total wallets/accounts.

You're an exchange. No bullshit reasons like 'the tech, the future, great coin..'. None of that bullcrap.  Volume matters first and foremost for an exchange.

I just wanted to point out that since this is a decentralized business, the Blockshare holders will need to be the ones to pass a motion to support new cryptos on the exchange. They're the ones that will need to be convinced. I'm sure volume will be a major factor in voting for a coin to be added, but it's not the only factor as Jordan Lee points out below...

Because B&C Exchange will be dependent on the blockchains of the assets it supports, only reliable blockchains should be supported. I suspect we will see more than 10 supported shortly after release.

That's a good thing.  3 - 5 coins with good volume and with reliable blockchains traded in a decentralized exchange?  Why not...  It doesn't have to be like Bittrex or Cryptsy where they have lots of junk listed with almost zero volume.

Exactly, I agree with you.

Also though, it is expected that we will support listing other DAOs/DACs based on the Peershares (http://www.peershare.net) platform. B&C itself will be built from Peershares, just as NuBits/NuShares was.

We generally agree that volume is important, but our shareholders will likely always consider the broader implications of adding a coin. For example, at one point PayCoin was a heavily-traded coin that generated large volume, but exchanges that offered it suffered from negative publicity for enabling GAW's fraud. We agree that large-volume coins are desirable of course, but the potential volume will likely always be weighed against external factors attached to a particular cryptocurrency.

I vote NEM/XEM as well

Do you guys still remember Sharexcoin? The started out as a coin, went on to become an exchange and shut down afterwards  >:(

Yeah, that's a given.  What are the coins in your list so far if you don't mind me asking...

We currently plan on supporting Bitcoin, BlockShares, BlockCredits, NuBits, and NuShares. As lead architect Jordan Lee has previously mentioned however, this list will grow in the future to include many popular cryptocurrency projects.

Volume is really often bullshitted. Anyone can fake the volume. So many scams have happened this way.

Better off, just adding coins that have existed over a year at least that aren't broken.

Not the bullshit volume. Only the regular, consistent coins with good volume.  A coin like LTC comes to mind.

I would like to hear more.  Please list other coins with consistently good daily volume.

According to coinmarketcap BTC/USD has the biggest volume ($30m / 24hr). after that there is LTC/BTC ($2-3m) then it is XRP ($0.5m). Assuming BTC/NBT can substitute BTC/USD in function, then the obvious choice is LTC/BTC for B&C.

Note that Nushare holders don't have to pay crypto/BTC (they have to pay NBT/BTC LPCs) so crypto/BTC are pure fee generators for Nushare holders.

Makes sense.  Yeah NBT can replace the USD since NBT is pegged to USD anyway.  So BTC/NBT, LTC/BTC and probably LTC/NBT too might be good as a start.

I meant just in the decentralized trading exchange.  Not replace USD for real.  LOL.  Now that's just stupid.

Then I opened up the 5 year dollar index. If this isn't a bubble I don't know what is!

And the point is?  Will it affect NBT in anyway?

If NBT is pegged to USD, then NBT is in “a bubble” (jyakulis (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1043579.msg11246447#msg11246447)) too.

Then trade back to BTC then.  What's the problem, it's a trading exchange.  The volume matters more.

The auction for B&C decentralized exchange will end in about 3 days from now. If you're interested in placing a bid, check this thread for more details...

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1033773.msg11153629#msg11153629

Also, we heard from a lot of NEM supporters in this thread. Are there any other cryptos you believe should be added in the beginning?

Will B&C exchange be decntralized?  Like will FINCEN be able to shut it down or will it be like bittorent decentralized?

If you ask your question in the main thread linked below, the architect Jordan Lee will answer you...

Also, there is a lot of discussion and questions and answers in the thread itself, which might be helpful to you.

Why not try something original, and just randomly draw from a hat full of the names of all the coins,
to chose the ones you want on your exchange?

I guess because the ratio of shitcoins to decent coins would mean you'd end up picking a bunch of crap instead of what people wanted?

I would need proof that price has anything to do with what people actually want,
there is problems on the internet with people making fake shows in everyone elses sight,
you know, they make it look one way, but it might not be that way

Price doesn't, but traded volume does.

According to an update yesterday, total funds pledged for BlockShares have reached $90,880 in just a little over a day. They're 45% of the way to the $200,000 that is required to fund development. If it hasn't already, the price will soon rise to $5.10 per BlockShare. And a reminder, if this exchange works as intended, shareholders will receive (weekly or bi-weekly) Bitcoin dividends from the transaction fees, so this is not just about the share price rising in the future. This could possibly be a continuous stream of income. Check the first post here for purchase details...
