Remove Satoshi as Founding Member, Says Bitcoin Foundation Director

Quote
As part of a newly published roadmap for the Bitcoin Foundation, executive director Bruce Fenton has suggested removing bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto as a founding member.

Though he called for the removal of all founding members from the organisation, Fenton singled out Nakamoto's inclusion as "not accurate", arguing that he or she was never involved in the group's creation.

Now a largely symbolic title, the move would also strip Gavin Andresen, Peter Vessenes, Charlie Shrem, Roger Ver, Patrick Murck and Mark Karpeles of the distinction.

Good idea as he was never a founding member of the foundation but was honorably listed there. Since the foundation is in trouble it's better to delist him so his name doesn't get involved in the bankruptcy.

Bitcoin foundation is nothing more than a look at me I'm important club. These people are champion in filling their own pockets with little to no effort.

Yeah, go ahead and remove him, and all others who make Bitcoin go ahead and take the time to update it... We definitely don't want good names associated with such an awful group.

They acknowledge the fact that it is "a largely symbolic title", nothing more. All other founding members (Gavin Andresen, Peter Vessenes, Charlie Shrem, Roger Ver, Patrick Murck and Mark Karpeles) are also proposed to be stripped off the title.

And with their recent announcement that they don't plan to fund the core development, I don't know why the foundation actually exist apart from receiving salaries for doing nothing.

I don't really see this is being particularly important. Who cares if they decide to add or remove Satoshi as their "founding member"? Satoshi left the Bitcoin community in early to mid-2011 and the Bitcoin Foundation was created in late 2012. By then, Satoshi had not been seen or heard from for nearly two years. He never asked to become a member nor did he ever have the opportunity to contest his inclusion into the foundation. If his name were to be removed as a founding member, the only real difference would be few less dark pixels on a screen.

This decision in my honest opinion is really a bad decision, because the bitcoin foundation should never be existed. It is a central organization, and bitcoin does not a central org. if some programmers want to help & contribute he should not be paid (but he can receive 'donation' from all the bitcoiners).

Maybe you are right, he has never asked to be a member of the bitcoin foundation but I am still thinking that foundation should not exist.

I totally agree with you. The BTC foundation is nothing more than a big joke and not needed.Something like a wanna-be club. If devs have something to contribute to the technology/code/ecosystem donations are the best options as you said.

The headline looks a bit alarmist to me. If they were trying to get him removed from being the named founding member of bitcoin then obviously that would be a no-no (and that's what I assumed at first), but I don't care about the actual foundation. If he wasn't involved in the creation of it then he shouldn't be on there in the first place so remove his name.
