For me it was early 1995.  (Can anyone beat that?)

I was using OS2/Warp on Windows 3.1

With every purchase of OS/2 they gave you an ibm.net email address.

Back then the WWW was in it's infancy, with most pages just being text.  

Before 1995 I used to log into homemade BBS systems.

I'm not even sure though I don't think I'm as old as you. I remember being one of the first people in my primary school to get a computer though and felt pretty special  8). Just used it to play games and do my homework on it though. It was a long time after that that internet became popular however.

Around 2006-2008 on Windows XP SP3 (Or 2?) while using old pentium PC, and it makes my internet slow as hell too.
Maybe I'm born too late :P

1999-2000 I think. I would have been 12-13 at the time. The system was an HP (families first computer) with a 466 Celeron, 256MB ram, a 20GB hard drive and a 56k soft modem. We would dial up at a blistering speed of 28.8kbps and on a good day, 32kbps. At some point I came across a hardware modem and using that I was able to get up to 46-48kbps.

Those were the days...

A 486 Celeron - those were the ones without the math co-processors, right?.  Future Shop (the US know them as Best Buy) wanted an extra $500 for the stupid math co-processor to make it a DX instead of an SX.  Remember those terms?  lol

56k was the fastest dial up speed back then - created using a 28.8k modem and data compression!  

So far 1995 is the year to beat!   :)

Yeah, the 486DX was the first Celeron to have co math processors.

I was on a friend's computer a few times that was online in 1995, but I am not sure that counts. I had my first computer with internet access in 1996, a 386 that I got more than my money (or should I say my parents' money) out of playing Quake online on a 14.4 modem. The constant 600 ping made it feel like a skating rink. Before that, frequented several local bulletin board systems (BBS). One of them had 8 nodes that could be used at once, and we could play 8-man Duke Nukem 3D or 4-man Doom2, etc. It was the best gaming experience I've ever had.

First computer we had was a 286. If I remember correctly, it was 16 mhz but the Turbo button could jump it up to 33 mhz. Don't quote me on those numbers  8)

Around that time 95 i guess. 286/386. Was using Erols at the time. I remember my sister getting annoyed with me hogging the phone line all the time. :).

I thought I should beat you a bit. For me I started since 1993 approx.

At that time I was mainly using unix and Windows 3.1 machines to access the internet, but the connection speed was very slow of course.  :D

Me, I first use computer on year 2002 on my school. We cannot afford to buy a computer during that time. This is also my first experience using the internet. I still remember my first search on internet explorer. I search the word "pussy".

Yep.  Was using the net using an early version of Dos, and some crappy modem (bing, bang bong!  scrrrrrrrr) and dialing into usenet.

I want to say mid 80's, maybe early 90's.

ETA:  Maybe first total internet experience, was CompuServe, whenever that came out.

I remember reading about people who would take multiple phone lines and modems and combine them to get faster connections. I always dreamed about doing that haha. It was probably around 2003-2005 when broadband starting to come into our area. My had a good friend at the local cable company (now Comcast). He gave us one of their test modems to use for a few months while they setup the network. It was uncapped and would hit 10mbps!! I had faster internet than anyone i knew at the time. After testing they knocked it down to 2-3mb i think.

I definitely cannot beat it.  I used a computer in 1995 but I didn't get on the internet until waay after my dad stopped our subscription to Prodigy message boards.  :)

98' , telephone line and external us robotics 56k modem, which due to sucky line pulled only about 3 kb/s.

Was on Prodigy in 1991 I think, AOL for a few years after that. Proper INet in 95'. IBM 486SX 25MHz, upgraded to 8MB RAM though and added the math coprocessor upping it to 50MHz.  Was on various BBSs all through the 90s too.

I had my first email address around 1993. It was the era of Windows 3.1, Novell NetWare and Netscape. Internet was not about webpages, it was mainly a telnet network to search for reference papers.

1998. I tried the internet briefly in 1997 but starting 1998 I was able to really surf and explore the web. And I can tell you there was a lot of free porn available even back then  ;D The images may not have been the sharpest but they were still hot enough for a young curious mind  ::)

i surfed on the internet for the first time in 2001 on dial up connection. It was in the same time such a great thing and such a boring thing with the long process of connecting on the internet, and while you are on the net you are prayed that someone won’t call you, because the signal would be lost. :)

I was about 10, my dad would walk me to the public library, and I would play games online.

It was late 2011 first time i surfed on the internet at an internet cafe with my friend. Then at middle of 2012 i got my own lappy with mobile internet. Till now using that mobile internet only :P

I don't know when I first got on the internet. It was too long ago, maybe around 9-10 years ago. It was on my pc. I am used dial up. It was too slow internet. I waited 5 minutes to load one page and 5 hours to download file from 3MB :D

1998 and later in 1999 we got our first computer it was an IBM. It's been a long time since those days.

1992 with prodigy internet on a packard bell 33mhz Pentium 1 8mb RAM win3.11 gaming computer. Favorite games were Megaman, Mech warrior 1 and 2 and Mega Race.

That thing was awesome sauce. 2004 was when we finally got cable internet.

The first time i get on the internet was around 2005 when I was grade 6 going to high school for educational purposes.

As far as i remember I first get on the internet around late 2008 because I really need it for my college studies I am Information Technology graduate by now , kudos to those people contributed  on creation of internet , without it there will no bitcoins by now.

Internet started for me around 97/98 with a 56 k modem.(might have been a 3x k modem not sure anymore)
I can remember my parents had to pay a ridic bill once (no flatrates at that time - they came like nearly a decade later in germany) and were really annoyed that the phone wouldnt work while you are online through a dial up connection.

In 1996. I started with an AOL diskette, like so many other people. I remember the harshest insult on usenet back then was to call somebody an 'aol-er'.

First time was around 1989 while doing my engineering major at college. At home was in 1991, by dialup through a now long gone ISP called SPIN.

I recall using the internet before Mosaic was released, but not long before then. Dial-up bulletin boards were more popular then, as well as anything involving phone lines. I actually had a beige box and a modified tone dialer on standby. Mostly, I accessed the internet on a Windows PC at a friend's house (my family only had a 286 PC and an ancient Apple Macintosh). But soon thereafter, ca. '92, I surfed 'the web' on a Sun SPARC station. Also my first Unix experience.

As I far as I can remember it was June 1995 while studying some computer lessons for kids.

Its 2001 as far as I can remember that I get to register my first email address, its hotmail.com. I eventually forgot its password that I have to register yahoo.com, i was even proud to have at least a hundred spam messages that I read them.  ;D

I'm a bit late, around 2009. Before that I used PC fluently since 2001, mine got like 999999 viruses come from my mom floppy disk! Now it is such a beautiful fish tank.

I first got on the internet when I was in university back in 1993. It was the era of Windows 3.1 and Netscape. There weren't much webpages then, most of the stuff was actually done through telnet. There weren't forums, only bbs and email newsgroups. Pretty stone age stuff, now we have internet on our mobiles and cryptos.

I got access to the internet back in the year 2006 when I had acquired a Nokia phone that had connectivity to the internet. It was one of the great things I can say I never regret doing them. I remember very well that it was a gift from my mum and it really transformed my career life. Today as I write i am a total internet marketer and am proud of  my job. I really dont know how your experience has been in comparison to your present day work but to me it has been life changing.

I think what forced me to use internet first time is Facebook it was 2006.
When i was in 6th standard in my school.
But after 2008 when i got aware to all the features of the Internet I left using Facebook and now it is only bring used to login on sites in the absence of Google+.

I am a late bloomer.  I did not first get on the internet until about 1999.  It was so new to me and I could not understand how people were on the internet in 1995 and such with windows 95.  I am assuming there was not much to do then.

Cars only went 30km/hour.  We had a lot of time to think.

I used to have an old 286 without a harddisk, but with two 2.5" floppy drives. I used to boot DOS 3 or 4 (can't remember) from a:, and run my binary's from b:... I had to switch this machine for my first 386 with a modem...

I don't know about your country, but here in Macedonia the internet was come a bit later then in US, Canada or the others countries. I remember that if you want to connect to the internet, you should dial up a number and while you are surfing, the phone line is busy. So, if I am 2 hours on internet, my friends should come and knock on my door. :D

I am not sure about my country, but the first time when I have access to internet was in 2002. I was in high school and the same year I buy my first computer. :)

P.S. Today Macedonia is No.1 country in the world for WI-FI network. 90% of our territory is covered with WI-FI so if you have smartphone and you are a visitor, then feel free to surf on our network! :D

I used to borrow my Dads Psion palmpilot and hook it up via Compuserve. I spent about two months laboriously downloading pictures from Baywatch, until my Dad told me I was leaving a trail everywhere I went.

I heard about the internet in around 2000 although i didn't buy myself a computer until around 2005. Used a Compaq laptop with windows XP as the operating system. It didn't seem to me that it was laggy at all at the time although recently I tried to use it again i couldn't even browse on Internet explorer properly  :-\

Legally, I had dial up starting in 94. War-drived til' 2004-ish and broke down and got cable.

Not sure on the year but I was on a BBS at the time the internet came about. A friend of mine said I had to try this new thing out. My first modem was a 14.4 then went to a 28.8
I also remember went I got my 56k modem. I was so cool at the time. We were FTP site junkies. Kinda miss the old days.
Was also kinda sad when they shut down the BBS. Up to 6 people could call in at a time. Was always a race to try and get a connection. Used to tie up the phone line and piss my mom off. LOL. She said I could always go on after 10pm. That was my time. Eventually they got me my own phone line once I would never disconnect from the internet.
