Title: VIP account with a single space as a Username
Post by: Quickseller on May 25, 2015, 05:02:37 PM
This (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=25340) account appears to have created a custom name with a single space (e.g. ' '), effectively making it near impossible to find his profile (most people probably will not be able to).

When you look at one of his posts there is no clickable link to his profile and it appears that there is no name attached to the profile.

My question is, should it be a requirement for all displayed usernames to have at least one, letter, number of symbol?

This person does not appear to do any business on the forum, so I don't think the scam risk is very big. However that cannot be said for every other VIP account holder.

Yeah, looks probable. Last post was September 25, 2012 before today.

He got an email saying to change his password. I am sure a lot of people will become active again after long periods of inactivity.

He was a member of the German community before and not very fluent in English:

we have some problems (databse errors) with the website but we are currently working to solve it.
Thanks for staying 'calm' to this time.

sorry for bad english.

A suggestion for Mr. Anonymous:
Please tell me in plain German why the word "Neuland" makes Germans smile. Just to prove that you're real  :)

If you can't, you'll have a negative trust rating by me before the end of the day.

Hmm, having a look at the post history, the majority of it was in the German boards, but when the forum came back online, I noticed a sudden change on the posts of this user: it appears that his English is not bad at all. Also, the account became active again since its last post in 2012, and looking through the history of this forum, there are several compromises on the forum's security causing to have some down time. Could the account be compromised too? I don't know.

Quickseller , do you know you there exist this button to see profile link of people?
I thing there shouldn't be any such limit for VIP Members.

I did not lol. I have always clicked on the username above the forum rank.

The changed username still makes it difficult to search for his posts within a certain thread or a certain sub.

I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of hacked accounts in the near future (abandoned but high ranked accounts for example). Stay alert guys!

I also just looked into his earlier posts.
Seems like he was a German Scammer already, but didn't receive a SCAMMER tag and also no negative ratings (probably the trust system wasn't active at the time).
He was associated with the site http://mybitcointrade.com/ which is defunct now and may have been re-registered by someone else in between. That would make it likely that his account was simply hijacked by the new owner of the domain (he'll receive his emails now as well).

I guess it's conclusive: hacked account of a former scammer.
Negative trust incoming.

It defiantly did not have it's password reset via email in the last 30 days. If you search the security log (http://bitcointalk.org/seclog) for "-  " (a dash followed by two spaces) then you will only find one entry of the password being changed (that requires the knowledge of the previous password).

This account is either a hacked account (by the person who hacked the forum) or is actually the person who ran the referenced scam. His dox was even posted here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=115572.0)

That is possible but I would find that unlikely personally.

Why don't we just do this.... any accounts which randomly go full derp or appear hacked should have to sign an old address or be locked until a time they can do so.

Yep, it sucks that the forums were hacked. I haven't seen any evidence that puts Theymos at blame for the hack, it sucks, but it happens. There is no such thing as an uncompromisable site.

Having your PM's given to a court isn't the same as lovingly giving them over to the government. It means a court ordered information regarding a pending lawsuit. What was he supposed to do, blow them off? Would you go to jail to avoid giving someone's pm to a court with a legal order?

Encrypt your messages if you want Theymos to not have liability for what you post.

Your choices are limited. Live with this accusations, and this account is worthless and say fuck it. Come forward just say that you hacked your way in and this account is worthless, too. Proof that you are the owner of this account and try and get fucked by the victims for your exchange scam. I know some people who would like to have a really nice chat with you (besides Law Enforcement).

Either way stop whining.

Yes, I am sure he was originally smart1985, who later changed his name to mybitcointrade.com. I remember some of his posts from 2011/2012.

Wasn't he also the guy who sent bulanula 25 BTC instead of 2.5 BTC?

That's correct. He was orignally "smart1985", then changed his name to "Smart-Mybitcointrade.com" I believe. He was called just "mybitcointrade.com" at some point.
