Yeah I like the idea that could be useful really .
or at least make the user account when you visit his profile written "banned" on his "Position" or something like that .

i already publicly asked in a previous thread, to have a public thread moderated by the admins who have executed the ban...
this could be useful to explain in detail the motivations...
but the response was negative...

I think the user account should have a tag on it while it is banned. I think a little public shame goes a long way to deter people from breaking the rules.

Yeah, I wouldn't be against this as it can be helpful it certain situations. A lot of other forums have 'banned' displayed somewhere when they are and I think you're right it would shame the user and maybe make some people fear bans more and therefore do their best to avoid them. When someone is banned for a week or so most of the time the ban will likely go left unnoticed by everyone else.

I second this.

I have asked this thing to BadBear here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=891783.msg9885735#msg9885735  and this was his reply: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=891783.msg9885941#msg9885941

So I do not think it will be implemented.... but I have always supported the idea.

A public ban list maybe good, but this may invade the privacy of those who banned (because they may use the same name at other sites). If this is made, I suggest only to include who were perma-banned, but not for those who banned for 7/30 days.

It already exists a list (not 'functional' at all) here : https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php

for example :

Nuke user: N/A in topic #0 by member #517541
Nuke user: N/A in topic #0 by member #517542
Nuke user: N/A in topic #0 by member #517543

That link only leads to one page. There seems to be no way to discover is someone is banned after his member number has sunk from the top to the bottom of the page. I doubt any member number would stay on that page for more than a day.

I always wondered if there was a way to know if someone is banned since most signature campaigns say that if you get banned you will be disqualified, how do they know? If you post the minimum posts that week and you get banned there is no way for them to notice, right?

Permanent bans will be shown in seclog but for temporary bans, they need to contact admins. Nowadays, it is not that hard to find because most people appeal in Meta.
