How exactly are they going to exchange that large amount of funds into the network, to millions of accounts?

And through what method will they organize a large scale attack funding wise? Its going to take soo long time that.....well, lets see what happens

Funny innit...

... bitcoin is qualitatively different from other currencies, in that its core-constituency is (at the moment) geeks.

But not just geeks. Ideologically-driven geeks. A community of ideologically-driven geeks, who are (in large part) doing this as an experiment.

So instead of "oooh... that's really scary, we're being threatened", our relationship with Anonymous (or some lone nerd) isn't one of adversary, so much as an experimental partner.

You say you can bring the network down? That's really interesting. Please... give it a go so we can see how resilient our system is... so we can see if there's some way we can improve.

IMO, Anonymous should set up an "official" (how?) Bitcoin address for each operation. I would gladly donate to fund operations that I morally supported and was reasonably certain would go to the correct individuals.

Post by: DATA COMMANDER on May 30, 2011, 11:59:53 PM
There's very little chance that Anonymous is actually behind this. They ought to love Bitcoin on principle. Someone should post a link to this in Anon's den. I have a feeling they will be annoyed by this imposter and may even go after him.

I forget or never saw the exact details:
What is the Bitcoin protection against transaction spam attacks?

Supposedly the transaction fee. Although from my understanding, when the client was patched to handle 8 digits after the decimal, sending anything below 0.01 BTC would enforce a fee of 0.01 BTC.

4chan != Anonymous

There was a long time ago when they used to lurk /b/, but today's 4chan user base has very little to do with Anonymous.

Come on people, are you really that gullible? At core anon has some very intelligent individuals. There is no reason why they'd want to bring our network down. And most importantly, there's no lulz in this operation  ;D

Operation Imposters
We are anonymous
We are legion
We do not forgive
We do not forget
Expect us

To all those that wear the anonymous name with the expectation of personal gain. We are after you.
The mere fact that you are reading this means you gave us your IP and therefor your specific location.
Extortion towards a P2P community is no more good than shouting to the sea to stand still. I discovered
a flaw in your logic and therefor I didn't. After all it is working as intended, flawed. Don't worry about it!
Well, if you did it would meant you are improving, but don't worry about not worrying about your flaws.
That is right, this statement is false.

One doesnt just make accounts in bitcoin.   :)

But if you put it in a vagrant instance, you can quickly have a vm running bitcoin on every computer in a bonnet.  That, plus a little scripting could accomplish the stated account, and it would fill the transaction buffer very quickly.  The block size limit would be quickly increased. And the new release would be picked up by the majority of transaction processors within a day.  Then, the minimum fee would be released and free transactions eliminated from the default ruleset.

I don't understand why the anonymous don't sign their messages.  I'm not talking about a named signature, but about a few GnuPG signatures with no real name.

So at least we could make sure that each new message has been written by the same people who wrote the previous ones.

No.

I could write something like that:

«
WE ARE ANONYMOUS.  WE ARE LEGION.  WE DO NOT FORGET.  WE DO NOT FORGIVE.  EXPECT US.

OBAMA IS A COOL PRESIDENT.  WE ARE GOING TO VOTE FOR HIM IN 2012, AND WE INVITE EVERYONE TO DO THE SAME.

WE ARE ANONYMOUS.  WE ARE LEGION.  WE DO NOT FORGET.  WE DO NOT FORGIVE.  EXPECT US.
»

This is a silly example, but you get the idea.

It might sound paradoxical, but basically I think there is no contradiction in being anonymous and signing your messages.

There is a small array of individuals that represent the whole of Anonymous, that control and guide these public campaigns, that organize and provide the tools for attacks and take-downs. Usually some of the identities repeat between episodes. They hide behind a wall of "neo-homosexuals" that pretend to be Anonymous while blabbing bullshit on 4chan. I guess your friend is right. However, the members of Anonymous do respect the imperatives declared on official propaganda, even when arrested by the police or tried by governments. So yeah, end of result is the same. Also recent scandals had "some" Anonymous members discrediting and detaching themselves from the actions of other Anonymous members (an accusation referred to as "similar-homosexuality" in 4chan vernacular).

It is clear that this action is powered by a small percentage of those that have activated under the Anonymous umbrella.

To me anonymous is an attempt to create a secret public organisation,  some kind of a cyber-freemasonry.

It is also some kind of a phyle, and it is the first I've ever heard of, so it might have some historical interest in future.

But due to inconsistency in structure (for instance the lack of protection of the integrity of their messages with no digital signature whatsoever), it is an epic fail in my opinion.

The thing about Anonymous is that it's a lot like Bitcoin; it's decentralised. There are no leaders and there's no "initiation" to become a member, so to speak. Anyone can claim to be a member and anyone can declare war in Anonymous' name. The success of each of their little vendettas depends on how many other "Anons" want to help them.

There is no doubt in my mind that this threat has come from some 15 year old kid who just found out about Bitcoin and thinks he's going to be rich.

I don't understand how the Bitcoin network is protected against spamming transactions with BTC 0.01 or higher? A few people could just send the same BTC back and forth between each other and thus spam the transaction database making it bigger and bigger.

What moron sent 2 BTC?
Lol, if I was setting up a troll like this, I would SO have several accounts of BTC from which to send 2 BTC to the troll account every day, just to make everyone madder.  :P
