Title: Power supply enough for dual 5850? Post by: grue on May 30, 2011, 11:52:26 PM I currently have a OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W power supply.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341018 Based on one review (http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article/2008/11/12/ocz_700w_modxstream_pro_power_supply), it seems that the PSU isn't the best. So here's the question: will this PSU power the following computer? AMD phenom x4 910 @ 2.6 GHZ 2 Sapphire 5850 xtreme (currently have 1, but would like to add one more) 2 2Gb RAM 2 hard drives The calculator here says it will use less than 500 W, but I'm skeptical about the accuracy of the calculator, and the quality of my power supply. http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp Title: Re: Power supply enough for dual 5850? If you overclock too far though, you might get a hard lockup. Overclocking can increase power draws significantly. Title: Re: Power supply enough for dual 5850? Post by: GreenSky on May 31, 2011, 12:12:52 AM A fully packed i7 Extreme Edition PC with 5850 crossfire shouldn't pull more than 500W (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5850,2433-13.html) at the AC outlet at full load.
The HardOCP review of your PSU shows that it's 81% efficient at 630W at the AC outlet. You've got plenty of current on the 12V rails. It should work fine. Post by: bitlackey on May 31, 2011, 12:21:46 AM You should be fine, if you have any issues(ie, psu shuts down)try re-balancing the load more evenly across the 2x12v rails.
