It's best to start here

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0

Most of your question depend on your speeds what way you plan to mine with hardware in your home or cloud mine etc . why i say in your home some will flat tell you home mining is dead but i know a few who make a lot mining out of there homes . so to me as for home mining that's a point of View  or what you call making a lot in your home etc.

from what i know, mining software is a tool to start mining. use that mining software for connect to pool to start mining. and then fill the mining software with your username and password you registered on pool and stratum address and port.
the risk if you use your pc to mining very often is overheat.
about the reward it's depend on your hardware specification. if you mining bitcoin with your pc it's not profitable, but if you mining litecoin with your pc it depends on what coin you're mining.

Mining software is just a tool for you to mining. https://www.bitcoinmining.com/bitcoin-mining-software/
a mining device/software which you can check for mining: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_software

my advice is stop mining with your PC, you just get a dust, especially mining bitcoin.

mining software are something like cgminer and bfgminer, you can find easily their rispectively official thread in the mining section(not altcoin minings section)

then you have a bunch of other mining software for altcoin(they are calaled sgminer for amd, i think wolfo has a new version, that is best one, coded by himself, and ccminer/cudaminer, there is a thread talking about a better ccminer version that include cudaminer, search fo an user called sp_,) with numerous algo to mine

depending on how much are you pushing on your hardware, anything can overheat. with a fully watercooled rig with low tdp for the cpu, your heat can be contained easily. with the introduction of scrypt asics early last year, alt coin mining has turned to unprofitable and risky.

The most important thing with mining is your cost of electricity.  Mine is ~.15 so it would be really hard to make a profit.  Yours may be cheaper, in which case you can think about home mining.  Try going with a pool, I believe nowadays this is the best way to earn with your own equipment.

what is most benefit for mining both of bitcoin and altcoin?

if you have free cost of electricity go for BTC, but im 99$ sure that you are not free of cost ;)

btw about the main question, do you want to mine with gpu, cpu or buy some hw?

i think that even with free electricity it would be hard to make money because of expensive mining stuff

before you buy mining hardware you must think again more
1. hardware price
2. electric cost
3. Difficult mining
4. bitcoin price
5. also fee WD and fee trading, pool fee

you can use https://alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator to calculate how many bitcoin you get with your GHS

before you mining with hardware mining i think you can rent GHS to get "real calculate" how many you get and to try some pool

My advice is better to mining altcoin, try an altcoin which have a good prospect but altcoin is very risky the price is so easy for pump and dump.

no idea but i have one rdp,my electirity is free
thanks before
RDP can't be used for mining. Most RDP will have low performance or they will close your account if they detect high cpu usage.
Home mining is impossible, expect you have very cheap electricity
You better try cloud mining, it's more profitable

You also could try PoS mining too, it's not really mining. You just turn on your wallet software & got very small percentage of how many coins do you have.
If you're interested, you could try Diamond (DMD). The price is very stable
It is basically a risky investment. If you are going to invest small, you will lose less if price crashes. But if they don't, you will earn more.

you can mine altcoin with your vps, if you talk about rdp.
but you have to be careful because the operator vps maybe close your service if they detect high cpu usage
my advice is do not mining in vps because it was too risky and not profitable i think, better too POS some altcoin with high reward or have masternodes

VPS was a fun time in mining.  But there will not be a time again I don't think were VPS mining comes back.   Just a lot of on demand.   And agusahlina is very right unless you go with a more enterprise based solution (EC2, Azure, ETC) there is a good chance you will get shut down to high CPU usage.  The VPS that show really low prices don't want miners maxing out their resources.   So really steer clear of VPS mining.

As far as OP most miners now come with software and controller board on them.   So they are very nice and easy to set up.  You have nice GUI interfaces to use.

mining let you produce more coin, it's not much different than diggin for gold in real life, but instead of doing it with pickaxe, you do it with your asic, that solve a complex computations to retrieve the reward

and akin to gold, mining is not advisable for casual miners as a form of investment

I think you should better look into cloud-mining, rather than doing mining by yourself. Cloud-mining is easy and profitable at this moment. Just find a cloud-mining company, get a contract and start mining bitcoins without installing any machines by yourself.  ;D

And get scammed. Seriously, there's many cloudmining that guarantees profit but I assure you majority of them are scams. If you are going to invest in a legit one, you would either have to wait a long time to get the profits or have to profits.

what's alternative coin which better for mining?

some new altcoin that are launched every day on the altcoin section, have very low diff, otherwise you can try to mine dash with gpu or monero, but thy aren't that profitable like in the past, nonetheless they should still offer a better profit than mining bitcoin

It is important to note that many of them are pump and dump scheme. The price may just crash when you try to cash out. It is quite risky. If they are really profitable for a long term, the old gpu/cpu miners would be mining on the coin thus rising the difficulty.
