Title: Welcome to Indians
Post by: dishwara on September 12, 2012, 06:53:50 AM
Hi,

I welcome all Indians to this sub forum.
I hope this sub forum will helps us to continue our uniqueness of "Unity in Diversity"

Any new comers, newbies, better read & know some stuff about Bitcoin & also try to know who are not scammers & who are scammers before buying or selling BItcoins.

Bitcoins once sent can't be taken back. So check more than double times before any transaction.

Hello All,

I am a huge enthusiast of Bitcoin in India and as professional in the Payment Industry. My CSR for the year will be raving about Bitcoin.
I have a blog where I intend to write about disrupting thoughts to build an ideal society. Bitcoin will be one of the big topics.
My key aim is to uncomplicate Bitcoin for the Indian and make its entry as frictionless as possible.
Which means that Bitcoin would need to bear a strong resemblance to anything considered of value in India.
I will publish my next article in a day or so on how Bitcoin needs to take on India or anywhere in the world to transform their economy.

My resources are:
http://bensonsamuel.wordpress.com/
http://bitcoinindia.activeboard.com/ - A startup blog for city based Bitcoin discussions in India. Please help it grow. Only our community can help it grow.

Best,
Benson

Hi All,

Here is one more website which trades bitcoin & other crypto currency in India : http://www.cashforaction.com/buygold.php

I cannot vouch for them as I have never traded with them but its good to have all the available crypto currency trading websites listed in India.

Bitcoin having any perceptible usage in India would be of benefit for those using it in India and for Bitcoin itself. Good luck in your endeavors.

http://bensonsamuel.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/dragons-tale-play-to-win-bitcoin/

Well, you might want to clarify that you can use a credit card to buy coins for wagering at that MMO casino, but then bitcoins from the winnings can be withdrawn.

(And actually the coins can be purchased without any wagering, but the fees are several percent of the charges.)

I'm Kevin from Coimbatore. Just heard about BitCoins (hardly one day familiarity). Very much interested in this subject, I wish to know more about it and I joined this forum. Happy to see some fellow countrymen here and very much happy that there is a separate board for us in the forum.  :)

Cheers and keep in touch!

Well it works but you need lot of patience. You must wait for at least 2 months as per our last experience.
Much better if you try btc-e or bitstamp.
And in any case, you can always sell it on buysellbitco.in :)

Hi Guys,

I hope all is well. I have been playing around with bitcoin for a few months now (in Bangalore). I have mainly been doing it offline with infonetenergy, benson, wilson, dashing riddler,  etc..

I am currently using a wallet called uno-wallet to hold the bulk of my coins.
I use Blockchain on my iPhone and coinbase on my iPhone for small amounts to transact with.

I purchase my bitcoins through cash with rupees in India and through Wells Fargo Bank in USD linked to my coinbase account. Cash is by far the fastest way to accumulate bitcoins and most fun.

OPINION: I don't know what it is about bitcoin that I like so much, because I see tons of flaws that scare the shit out of me. I guess the idea of walking around with a piece of paper worth a ton of money is exciting. Being able to pay a craftsman(villager) in India for his/her art through bitcoin on a global scale is pretty equalizing as well. No government controlling it is also HUGE for me. I don't believe the need for Financial Institutions will ever go away, we will just start dealing with more honest and transparent Institutions as the currency emerges from its birth pains.

Volatility, Security and Idiot Proofing the SEND, RECEIVE and STORAGE functions are important. Increasing Bitcoin Awareness interests me the most.

Thank you all for your contribution to this forum. Reading your posts has been extremely educating.

Hi guys, been around this forum for a while and been running a small bitcoin operation for a few months as well (bitcoinsaresexy.com). I'm Indian but I live abroad, I'd love to build something for the Indian bitcoin community if there is demand (I am a software dev).

Would you guys be interested in a P2P solution like bitcoins.de ?

I haven't been selling bitcoins to any Indians though because I do not want any INR. No offence to you guys but the 30-40% drop in INR in the past years has wiped out my savings really badly :( I don't want to get any more INR for now..

Indians already started using bitcoins, but only as commodity.
But many are subtle & not telling publicly.
Bitcoin is very useful for money laundering.

Hey guys, new here, not to Bitcoin. I've know about them since early 2010. Stupid of me to not invest back then. I guess 2013 is still early when it comes to Bitcoins. Almost nobody I know has even heard about them. So it's nice to find some early adopters from India.
I'm not much of an economist but the concept of decentralized cryptocurrency has the potential to change the world as much as Internet did.

Go over to the market place section and place a  requirement for your purchase, how much BTC you want what rate you are  willing to pay.

I didn't see this local forum before. :D I am happy there is a forum for India.
A fair warning to all who use localbitcoin.com : Don't make a person to person trade in a less crowded area, it is dangerous. Try to be more careful when yoh sell/buy in it. Don't look the amount they promise, look at his ratings.
Kindly,

Its a gamble, Dont invest anything more than  you can afford to loose.

Better is to invest in bitcoin2.0 projects. SOme of them are verry innovative with a bright future ahead. Everything certainly depends on mass adoption so play your part  by educating the masses around you and making them familiar with the core  principle on which bitcoin works .

Hope the day comes soon. But if we want to compete with chinese, we still have a long way to go in terms of educating public on btc,  btc infrastructure (Acceptence in shops, atms) etc. The chinese have an advantage here as they already had an established internet infra, and so they could grasp the understanding of cryptos quickly. On the other hand, we Indians love money, and keep searching for more ways to earn and save it. So if someone comes out with platforms to show the advantage of bitcoins, I am sure everyone will be jumping for it...

It is just a matter of awareness. The population of india is so much that if even half of them start using it, it will change the economic structure and then we can move markets :p hehehe

Very true.

India is one the biggest population country with 3nd level of economic GDP all over the World. It has very big potential. Lots of Bank already started to collaborate cryptocurrency. Even city bank introduce own Altcoin.

I think world is going towards digitalization and India will have major part in it.

So With the love in Bitcoin I have made website Pocket Bitcoin Guide (http://bitgold.co.in) which will help more indians to get educated about what is bitcoin ? How to get them ? How to use them ? and much more..

The best way is to DIY.

  • Go to igot's website
  • Open up an account with them
  • Get your bitcoin wallet address
  • Deposit 1 BTC or more or whatever amount you want
  • Then try to withdraw the same back to your bank account

Within a week (maximum) you will understand who are the scammers.
Then come back to this forum and post your experience to help others beware of the scammers

Very Easy ....

Well, i've doubt about converting bitcoin into rupees.......plz clarify me............
There ate two ways to convert your bitcoin into cash.
1)selling bitcoin to official exchange-there are many sites in india like zebpay, coinsecure, btcxindia, unocoin etc which gives you bank money for bitcoin or in other words they convert your btc to cash.

process-to sell bitcoin on exchange make account with your detail and conform your identity, fill your kyc form (these are mostly required by all exchange).now send btc to given deposit wallet now your btc is sold and you got cash for your btc at current exchange rate.

2)selling bitcoin to any person-in this process this method is as simple as selling your gold to any person or Goldsmith.
just send your bitcoin to his/her wallet and he will give you cash for this.and remember aware this method for bulk selling.
hope it will help to you.

Nice information in your post but you forgot to mention that a trusted escrow must be used for any person to person transaction as Bitcoin is irreversible which means once sent, you cant get it back

yes its too hard to find someone scammers. but you can deal safely just by using escrow service.if someone are not ready to accept escrow, they must scam.never trade without using escrow.hope you will stand on this way. :)

Common sense is not ao common my dear friend.Perhaps you haven't visited the Scam accusations section of this forum. Most of people lise their btc because they didn't use escrow

Hi,

I'm from India and a newbie in the world of bitcoin.

Few questions:

Can anyone guide me how can I earn bitcoins?
For bitcoin mining is there any cloud mining platform I can use to understand the process?
Important areas I should keep in mind.

Thanks in advance.

Hi zikkybc,

Welcome to the bitcoin world mate.
Okay i am going to briefly answer your questions and i hope u don't get too disappointed, well to be honest its a matter of perspective.

First of all, like any other currency bitcoins can be bought by exchanging via fiat, but you might already know this.

There are a number of way to earn bitcoins,
i would suggest in order to understand the wallet and how the transactions work
start small i.e. claim bitcoins ( satoshis = like paise if u think bitcoin as Rs. ) from Faucets [ faucets a websites where they give u very small amounts of bitcoins for visiting]

Once u get the hang of it and start posting some good content on this forum, then u can join one of the many signature campaigns ( like u can see i have a signature for which i get paid per post ). This is quite good way to earn bitcoins.

Another way is by providing services of ur skills for eg. graphics designing, coding, etc whatever you are good at for a reasonable price in bitcoins.

Regarding your questions about cloud mining i would suggest u search and read into it, there are alot of topics here on the forum.
Many of these cloud mining websites have no hardware whatsoever they just run a ponzi scheme. Still dont take my word for it. i am not expert in that.

The only thing to keep in mind is people SCAM in everything so just be carefull in what u invest your money and time.
Many of them out there are really good people trying to change the world.

and keep talking.. and having interactions.

Any indian startups working with bitcoin technology ??  ::)

That question i would say is rather vague the reason being bitcoin is a cryptocurrency just like other currencies u can accept or send it against goods, etc. So just implementing that as a payment method is one thing.

another thing is there are bitcoin startups like zebpay where u can exchange bitcoins for local currency.

If u talk about technology then you should look into the blockchain technology which is quite interesting.

I am not living in india from past few months and havent been following the current state maybe if someone can shine some light whether any startup is using this technology which is not just exchange like zebpay that would be great.

Crytocurrencies as a mode of payment for buying/selling of goods/assets and for services performed, are still almost negligible in India. Mostly the awarded masses are just using it as a mode of investment. It is mostly seen as an asset to either trade or accumulate in anticipation of phenomenonal rise in the market price of the currency.

Masses at large are still not aware of the concept, even in city like Mumbai.
Govt's stand regarding the concept is still not clear. Maybe that's discouraging people to accept the concept as fair and legal.

I would agree with what you say. The question to be addressed is 'WHY'.
Technology has not penetrated alot of India, which might be the reason. Even though it is very convenient to use bitcoins but it is still not that easy to acquire them. One needs to understand at least few basic things and apart from that why would any common person would buy them knowing that you can't buy groceries with it.

Even though there is a market for this cryptocurrency in India, the amount of people, the value for the stakeholders isn't high enough and by value i am not talking about the price.

I totally agree with ur point of view. We need some form of awareness campaigns, especially for collage students. Catch them young and watch them grow

Hi, have you tried localbitcoins website?

Maybe you find someone who is quite close to your location for a meetup and believe me if you know how to negotiate, face to face is the best choice. Give it a try and maybe you get a good deal for you money.

I think the best way to buy bitcoin is through exchanges. You might have to pay a bit more but they are much safer.
You never know the intention of anyone who you are dealing with.He may be some criminal who when meets you may rob you.

Well i think you watch too much crime series.

anyways, i wouldn't say you are complete wrong but on localbitcoins there are reputed dealers who would like to keep their reputation for further business and i don't think such people pull this kind of shit.

" The most recent Bitcoin robbery
reported to police is typical for this
new breed of crime. New York City
firefighter Dwayne Richards headed

someone who apparently wanted to
exchange Bitcoins for cash. Instead
he was mugged and stabbed, but
survived and is recovering well."

I am new to this forum and thread. Hello everyone there !

Got a basic question - how do you compare rates provided on localbitcoins.com v/s Zebpay / Unocoin etc. There seems to be a delta of INR1000+ most of the time. Has anyone evaluated

(1) how localbitcoins.com is different than other exchanges or platforms in India
(2) any advise on which of the Indian platform is good to begin with
(3) Is bitcoin liquidity dependent on the platform (zebpay, unocoin etc). or how is this managed at the country level

apologies if these are already discussed /answered. Appreciate if you can point me to right resources.

yes i want to create a small but informative site for beginners like me, any help in terms of content, accuracy, etc would be deeply appreciated. we can buy a domain perhaps in a few weeks once we have all the ideas and structure in place.

By focus i mean everyone from different regions have different understanding and you have to understand your target group. For eg if you write bitcoin is a crypto currency and people dont know what cryptography is then there is no point.

this is what i mean. Mumbai has so many people, and only few know about this.

Yes, i would help you with few things. :D

hi suvo05, what sort of content?  please have a look at https://99cryptocoins.wixsite.com/99cryptocoins
i also have a free domain redirect from 99cryptocoins (dot) tk but bitcointalk marks it as a suspicious link so i used the original wix link for this forum (as above).  the .tk link will work if you type into your browser directly.

perhaps we could have a NEWS section with news relevant to Indians? what do you'll think?
don't really think (yet) another discussion forum is required.

Your website has little information now but i think your going in the right direction. also news section will be good. You must be able to know what the impact of the news about bitcoin around the world would be on India... then that is something interesting to read. Every perspective matters.

btw PM me your telegram or skype ID and we can have a chat if you want.

You are absolutely right and that is because India is a country with such a population. Even though some people might have herd about bitcoins and out of them some use it... majority of the population do not understand nor have the time and resource to do so.

So check more than double times before any transaction.

hello there, glad to see this thread. Hope Indians start embracing the technology and not just look at the monetary aspect of the cryptocurrency and blockchain .

Hi All,

A newbie Bitcoin enthusiast from Bareilly (U.P.). Professionally a freelance web developer

I had heard about Bitcoin around a year back, but what I read (on Quora) was written in not so encouraging words. Basically, it went along the lines of 'Bitcoin mining was once very profitable, not it is no longer even slightly profitable unless you invest huge capital in it'. There was no mention of bitcoin trading; only a list of outdated hardware that once made people millionaires but were no longer any useful...and then another list of some other miners of which you would have to apparently get a couple (10-15), to make some decent profit.
If only that article had something on Bitcoin trading, things would have been different for me at least ;)

Anyways that is about me.

Anyone from Bareilly/U.P. here?

how to know which btc website in real

Do you men to ask which BTC website/exchange is trustworthy?

Well, if you are buying Bitcoin or any other Atcoin (eg. Ethereum or Ripple or DashCoin or Lite Coin or whatever) for long-term investment, then you don't keep it with the exchange , no matter how reputed it is. Because exchanges are prone to hack attacks/bankruptcy etc.
Better to buy them from CoinSecure/ZebPay/LocalBitcoins/UnoCoin and then transfer them IMMEDIATELY to an offline wallet.

However, if you are in there for short term trading, then after buying on any of the Indian exchange, transfer your Bitcoins to a reputed international exchange like Bittrex/GDax/Poloneix/Kraken etc. and then do the trading there.

Which exchange do you choose should depend on :
1. whether the exchange supports the cryptocurrency you want to trade in
2. deposit/withdrawal feels
3. transaction charges
4. Other factors like support response time, UI/UX etc.

Hi Ashutosh,

Welcome to the world of cryptocurrency and the forum. I too am new here, but I will try to share as much as I know.

1. Regarding the amount of Bitcoins to start trading with: This is something you have to decide. As everyone will suggest you to not play with more than what you can afford to loose. At any time your investment should only be an amount loosing which would not financially/emotionally hurt you much.
But at the very beginning when you are learning how to trade start with a very small amount. Perhaps 5k-10k INR.
I started with INR 5000 as my first investment, because I wanted to see how bidding and selling works
Next time, I invested 30k. When i will gain more knowledge and confidence, I will invest more.

2. You can invest in cryptocurrency in 2 ways:
a) Trading
b) Holding as a long term investment . Eg. You could buy a bitcoin and keep it for long term in the hope that its prices are only going to increase substantially over time.
Other currencies speculated to grow substantially over time are: Etherium, BitCoin Cash, Ripple, LiteCoin, DashCoin, Neo etc.

3. Trading may be long term and//or short term trading.
For either of these, one needs to learn how to read the charts. I myself am new to this, so cant comment on this much. But there are many videos on Youtube which give you an idea about this.

4. For trading, the only way (for Indians) is to buy bitcoins from an Indian Exchange like Zebpay, CoinSecure or UnoCoin.
All of these require you to provide your identification details when you register. This is required by law and is called as KYC.
These exchanges take anything from a couple of hours to a couple of days. My personal experience was ZebPay was fastest (took only 5-6 hours in my case), while CoinSecure was slowest (took about 10 days). Unocoin took 4 days in my case.
Although CoinSecure was slowest, but I have heard very good things about it, so I want to give it a try.

To know the rates at different exchanges, see this site:
http://www.bitcoinrates.in/

5. Next step is to transfer your bitcoin to an international exchange. There are a number of exchanges like Bittrex, Poloniex, Kraken, Bitstamp, CryptopiaGDax, CoinMama, Bitfinex, C-Cex, Bithumb etc. These differ in number of currency pairs (among which you can trade), fees, exchange rate and availability in different countries.
See these links for a comparison of some of the most popular exchanges:
https://blog.infinitemlmsoftware.com/top-bitcoin-exchange-list-2017/#.WaQYzT4jGpr
https://99bitcoins.com/best-bitcoin-exchanges-comparison-review/

See this link for a list of cryptocurrencies and exchanges where they are supported:
https://cryptocoincharts.info/
coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/

I personally use Bittrex for its extremely easy intuitive interface. However, I will soon start trading on Poloniex as well because:
a. the volume there is higher than on Bittrex
b. You should keep your coins in multiple different exchanges because if one exchange gets hacked, your rest of the coins are safe
c. There are some currenciies not supported on Bittrex, but supported on Poloniex. Vice-versa is also true

6. On the other hand, If you dont plan to trade and just want to buy bitcoins for long term holding, then remove your coins from online wallet to an offline wallet asap

This is all I have learnt till now, and I have shared it here. If I get to know more, I will add later on.

Hello fellow Indians,

I along with my team of developers from India has come up with a new blockchain based project centering around social service. This project will mark the launch of the first cryptocurrency ICO from our country. We are a team of young and creative developers straight out of grad. college, and therefore lack the formal experience under our belt. Cryptocurrency is something which has a lot of potential volumes still to be covered, both locally and globally.

Indicoin- Blockchain redefining Social Service" is an ethereum based platform, becoming the 1st social service platform that enables users to use smart contracts to provide social proof to the [Suspicious link removed]munity through a decentralized, unbiased and transparent voting process thereby incentivizing and encouraging the user community to undertake more such social tasks.

We are pleased to announce that Indicoin token sale would be the first ever Token Sale/ICO officially covering India where people can buy Indicoin in INR as well as other cryptocurrencies. Our mission is to create awareness among 1.2 billion unaware Indians about cryptocurrency and blockchain ecosystem and also create a sense of social accountability among individuals.

All we need is your support and help to spread a word about our project on [Suspicious link removed].in[/url]

Regards,
Mihir

I see that last couple of message have only been about newbies like me introducing themselves. No other stuff happening here.
How about people who have a bit of knowledge share a couple of tips for others?

I will start to get the ball rolling. Please note that I am in no way affiliated with any of these sites. I am just sharing what I found useful.

1. You can easily buy bitcoins using Zebpay/Coinsecure/Unocoin. Unfortunately it looks like at the moment we have to rely only on Indian exchanges to buy bitcoins. No international exchanges for Indians for now.

2. Next step could be that you want to grow your bitcoins. For eg. you might have bought 0.5 btc. Now yoy may want o increase ito to 0.6 btc and further.
The only way to do so (without putting additional money) would be trading with different altcoins.
You buy an altcoin when it is low, and you sell it when it is high, thus gaining a little more btc in the process.

3. Once you decide to start trading in altcoins, you need too settle on an international exchange to carry on the trading.
Here is a comparison of different exchanges:
https://blog.infinitemlmsoftware.com/top-bitcoin-exchange-list-2017/

Please note that we cant buy bitcoins on international exchanges, but we can very well transfer our existing bitcoins (purchased from elsewhere like Coinsecure/Zebpay/Unocoin etc) to these exchanges and start trading.

The exchange you choose should depend on:
1. The altcoins do you want to trade in. Not all altcoins are supported by every exchange. Also trade-volume of each altcoin differs between exchanges
2. The transaction and trading fees of the exchange.

4. Charts
You need a place where you can see the increase (or decrease) of multiple coins at once.
One such free site is:
coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/

You can also look at:
https://cryptocoincharts.info/main/topsFlops

One premium (paid) tool is CoinIgy. It gives you a lot of tools for in depth analysis of trends of different coins. They provide you with tools like candlesticks, waves, different studies like MACD, Bollinger charts etc.
MACD, Bollinger CHarts etc are different forms of studies done to technically analyze different aspects of growth of a coin. Professionals use these studies to very accurately predict when the price of a goin is going to increase or decrease.

There are numerous tutorials online teaching how to study these charts.

5. Portfolio Managers:
If you have a big investment, then you should NEVER put all your coins in a single exchange. Use different exchanges so if one of the exchanges gets hacked or shutdown, not all of your coins/money will be lost.
So for a big investment, you should be using the services of a number of exchanges.
But managing your invstment in different exchanges can become very tedious.
So you will need a portfolio manager which will help you look at all of your investments across different exchanges, from one place only.

Here are some of the most common portfolio managers:
https://www.cryptocompare.com/
https://cointracking.info/
http://coinfinance.com/
http://CoinTrackr.com

This is all for now.
If you find my post is irrelevant to the thread, let me know and I will not post further.
On the other hand if someone finds it useful, then again let me know and I will try to add more information I come across.

And that my friends is open source. hahaha.. any monkey can clone/fork it.

unless there is a team of well experienced people from different fields and in association with the govt ( or atleast publicly supported ) i would say everything is just sham.

and about the 1% well i think more know about it but less actually use it. But then that would be the case if you consider the whole population out of which so many people are so far away from technology or lets say access to internet apart from social network.

Today I attended a session on the Legal Aspects of Blockchain & Cryptocurrency at WeWork Galaxy in Bangalore. The session was interesting. Most of the discussion was on the regulatory aspects of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology in general. One of the panelists was Jincy Samuel from Coinsecure. It was sad to hear her speak about the pathetic support from banks for exchanges. It's more like how the banks are scared about cryptocurrencies gaining a stronghold.

nice. good to hear about event in India.

on the point of bank, they will do it because with the rise of cryptocurrency there will be no need of 3rd party like bank to hold/store/transact funds.. everything will be p2p.

Regulation will be implemented by the governments for sure but here's what i think... eventually the personnel in the government bodies will change and the new ones will already be on the side of cryptocurrencies thus implementing better regulations.

But question are very sad to tell us I am indian
Better to depends on what country you're in live. If you're in the US, or Canada, you have a many  options with people who take it directly buy sell any cryto market attachment or any other option but if you live in India then you have got many problems
What can we solve problems,
2nd question - how can I merit and his work I did not know which respectable person are chooes the merit work. Thanks

Right now Indian Bitcoin community is facing biggest problem of deposit and withdrawal of cryptocurrency through bank accounts , that RBI discussion is wrong , atleast they should not instruct the bank to not provide the services to cryptocurrency community , it's our own will , we choose to invest in cryptocurrency, I hope they revised their discussion

1. you tell them its a scam by stating or rather showing them some facts.
2. everyone needs to fall in-order to learn. people are full of themselves for reasons unknown.
