Title: Big Brother Betting Pool?
Post by: jeffthebaker on June 21, 2015, 06:05:58 AM
After posting a thread, and checking current prediction sites, there does not seem to be a good option available to the Bitcoin community for betting on Big Brother.

As a gambler and a Big Brother fan, I would be interested in organizing a betting pool of sorts- participants can place a bet on the houseguest of their choice. At the end of the season, the entire pool would be divided proportionally and handed out to all users who placed a bet on the actual winner.

Before I decided to conduct this, I would need to see if there is any support for such a betting pool. Obviously, if there are no BB fans outside of myself, this project would be a failure.

I would also like help on this sort of thing. I have never hosted any such betting pool before. What is a good way to go about using escrow? What would be a fair commission (if any)? What would be a fair minimum bet? How long into the season should I accept bets?

If you have any suggestions, or if you are interested, please reply below. Thanks!

I watched about the first 2-3 series of Big Brother when I was in my early teens. I haven't watched it for years though, it's crap  ;D I certainly wouldn't be looking to bet on it, it could quite easily be fixed.
Thinking about it I really hate the reality tv culture today where everybody wants to be like these dicks on these shows.
Do you not like sports betting bro, dice betting? Please don't watch Big Brother  ;D

Many big brother in foreign countries, allow the user to vote via internet/sms and this is the best way to fraud the system and choose the winner….

Big Brother USA is by far my favorite show and as the season premiers in a few days I have to think you're talking about it. I too have thought about making a site but gave up very quickly up right after buying a domain a few years ago.

I've thought about this some. I also have never really googled to see what is out there already.  I would make it like fantasy bigbrother or some other competition against other people.  You can draft people weekly or before the season. Additional points for your players winning competitions, lose points if your person gets nominated, and every vote against them.

You can also give an attempt and be a bookie and take bets on who is going to win the next POV or HOH comp.   You will need to beon the ball there with the live feeds being like 5 days ahead of the show until evictions.  I'm pretty sure there's bettinglines on individual contestants for UK BB for who is going to win overall but I only watch USA

Me and my friends (like 3 of us) just draft like a few contestants each after a few weeks into the show for winner takes all for a boring amount of money.

When I was thinking about this I was also going to use a decent amount of my own money as the prizes the first year, promote it over at jokersupdates, hamsterwatch, reddit.com/r/bigbrother, etc.... also cause i'm sure the first year would have a ton of glitches in it.  CBS would also try to probably shut u down as well.

For clarity, I am talking about the BB US season that is starting in a few days. The idea was that the betting would work the same as bithorse.co - you place a bet on an individual houseguest that you think will win the game. At the end of the season, the prize pool will be split between everyone who bet on said contestant proportionate to their bets.

For example, the total prize pool is 1 BTC. Let's say, Vanessa wins. Two players bet on Vanessa, one bet .09 BTC, and the other bet .01. The first player, who made up 90% of the bets for Vanessa, earns .9 BTC. The other earns .1 BTC.

Regardless, there doesn't seem to be much interest, and with only a few days until the season begins, I think I'm going to keep this one on the drawing boards.

I watch it also like a decade ago when it first came out. The first season was probably interesting but like "Who wants to be a millionaire" it became very old very fast.

Regarding the betting, I doubt there will be a pool because the show is filmed in advance and people can cheat if they know the producers of the show.

I think you are mistaken, Big Brother is live. The season progresses on TV at the same rate as in the house.

Was the original one live? Or was it survivor? I always get them confused.

If its truly live then you can probably bet on it.

We have a BBB (Big Brother Brasil) here in Brazil.

There are just nonsense people, horn girls and a lot of homos.
