Title: Activity confusion
Post by: Somekindabitcoin on June 24, 2015, 08:35:45 PM
Why is it that it doesn't work in exact intervals?

Not that I don't like it, but the activity seems to increase sometimes on Tuesday or Thursday. Has it always been like that?

I'm now a Hero member because of it : )

Impossible. It increased for me sometimes on Thursday. In fact, the last one increased on Thursday for me.

Maybe you didn't sign in on the Tuesday so you didn't notice until you went online Thursday. Activity is calculated & changed on this forum every 14 days & I can 100% guarantee you that the day activity points are sorted is a Tuesday mate.

Nope. I'm sure I signed on everyday the other week. I signed in on thursday and it was still at 462 (back two weeks ago). Around the afternoon time of Thursday, my activity increased. Now it increased at the end of tuesday as I logged in today on wednesday.

It could be caused if you had potential activity. Basically how that works is that if you post once during a two week time period, although you've only gained 1 activity point, you've also gained 13 "potential activity" points. So as you post later on, your activity will increase post by post, until all your potential activity points are used up. That could be what caused your activity change on a Thursday.

It can't be potential activity. I already have 1,425 posts.

No, not potential activity. It's when you made posts after the start of the new period. If you did them only Thursday, that's when activity increases. If you did them immediately after the period starts on Tuesday, you get the activity right away. Last time you posted was on the 22, before the new period. And then only today. So you only get activity today.

It still doesn't make any sense because I was off this forum for about a month and it still changed despite my postings. It changed by 28 activity. That rules out that.

Are you sure it didn't change only after you posted 1 time? Never noticed it updating automatically. And if you missed a period or two in that month, you shouldn't have received any activity at all. Let alone 28 for two periods. You must always make at least 1 post within a period to receive up to 14 activity points. If you don't the activity is lost.

you might be right. my activity was updated earlier today (Wednesday, AM, forum time). and it went from 294 to 308 in one swoop, too.

Increase of 14 points of activity is normal. Nothing wrong there. But your activity should have increased some time after June 23, 10:04:34 PM. Don't know if it takes an hour or so to update. So if it increased or if you only noticed the increase in the early hours of Wednesday, everything is right. Your previous post was at June 23, 08:00:39 AM, so before the new period started.

uh no, look at your "look and layout preferences" and see your setting there. are you sure the time on the top right of bitcointalk page match with the "Current forum time"?

Never touched those settings. But looking at it, yes it matches. The current forum time is the same as what is shown at the top right of the page. Current forum time: June 25, 2015, 12:09:51 AM. When I said your previous post was made at 8 am Tuesday, I meant it in relation to the one you made at 10 pm Tuesday. Only after this last one could activity increase. Not before. So if you only noticed it early on Wednesday it's updating correctly. Early as in at midnight or little after. Forum time.

Activity updates takes up to an hour after you're active but the new activity periods only start every two weeks on Tuesday. You won't get any more activity until then.

Do i understand it correctly that when someone is posting one post each week between two tuesdays, that he will get 1 activity point and 13 potential activity points, so that when the user would post 40 times in week three then he would get a total of 42 activity points and would have 42 posts.

Does it matter where you post?

And in a week you never can get more than 14 activity points when you dont have potential ones?

I think "week three" in your post is a mistake. It should be "period three" or "week six".

If what I said above is correct, then yes. That user will have 42 posts and 42 activity.

Does it matter where you post?

No.

And in a week you never can get more than 14 activity points when you dont have potential ones?

Yes.

Ah i see. I overread that its a "two" week period. If its two weeks then ok, though then the post in week 2 had to be done in week 3 or 4 in order to get the potential activity points from the second period.

Thanks for clarification!

I got two new questions.

With potential activity... when you post, when will the activity points and the rank be updated?

And whats the latest tuesday when an update happened?

Can take up to an hour I think but it's usually much quicker than that, and the next period starts on Tuesday.

You're asking something that doesn't need to be asked because the info can be easily found in the stickies and just about every other thread asking about ranks or activity.
