Title: ForBitCoin.com, A Mirco Job Marketplace Pre-Launch
Post by: darbsllim on June 01, 2011, 06:25:37 AM
What Would You Do For A BitCoin? (http://forbitcoin.com/52t71)

I'm excited to announce our first bitcoin project aimed at strengthening the bitcoin economy.

While trading and mining are exciting and profitable ventures (I've lost a lot of sleep in the last 2 weeks  ;D), which are attracting a lot of much needed attention to bitcoin, we need more ecommerce projects.

Our goal is to help stimulate the service based economy with our first project, forbitcoin.com, where users can earn small amounts of BTC through Micro Jobs.

More details later this week, sign up to get notified when we launch (no spam, we respect your privacy).

We look forward to growing and shaping this service around the communities wants & needs, and we really hope that the bitcoin ballers show their support by participating =)

As a pre-launch bonus, The top 10 people who refer the most REAL people to join the pre-launch list will win something nice.  What prizes should we give away?

Brad

P.S. Thanks to bytepimp (http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=9881.0) for the awesome pre-launch page background.

Thanks for all the support so far! We're looking for some input.

What should we display job prices in?

Obviously we want to just display in BTC as we are only doing transactions in BTC, but we're afraid the wild swings in the value of BTC will eventually be almost de-motivating for job seekers.

On launch, all jobs will be have a value of roughly $5 USD.

Should it be displayed as:

Just BTC
I will walk you through setting up your first mining rig for 0.4 BTC

A dynamic BTC with dollar value based on Mt Gox prices
I will walk you through setting up your first mining rig for 0.4 BTC (~$5)

thoughts?

Tag all prices for 0.5 BTC  and never change it unless you see the site getting smaller because BTC price went 10 times up or down (ie: it went to 100 USD or to 1 USD)

That way, it will make BTC value more stable, as people start to think in BTC instead of think in USD and tthen convert.

I think the better is that the "worker" put the whatever price in BTCs (but can be changed later). It will increase the variety of "works/services" that can be done and add a little bit of competition.

maybe an area for "auctions" would be nice too.

As always it all depends on the nature of the work. Remember, Bitcoin is just a currency - a medium of exchange for goods and services. Don't base your business model around the currency (although it will help to drive traffic to your site). Instead, favour providing an excellent method of allowing people to conduct business together for very small jobs which would otherwise be cost prohibitive due to excessive money transfer fees.

That is the reason (I hope) that you've chosen Bitcoin to handle the money side of things. You will need to set up some kind of escrow (ClearCoin being the obvious choice) but you may want to start exploring the possibilities of the Bitcoin contract system.

In addition, and I'm sure you're aware of it, you may want to visit http://answers.onstartups.com/ (http://answers.onstartups.com/) which offers a lot of answers to questions that startups often ask.

Quote large prices against the dollar. Quote small prices against the bitcoin.

Fast small microjobs should only be bitcoin.
Large slow microjobs should be in bitcoin set to an external currency reference.

There's no reason small jobs need to be speculating when they can make up losses in quantity, reputation, and stability.
Let the big players speculate.

Thanks for the input guys, OneFixt originally gave the idea to display only in BTC, wanted to get some input and it sounds like thats a good idea.

We have integrated with Mt Gox for bitcoin payment, we only accept payment and give payment in bitcoin.

We will be acting as the escrow between buyers and sellers.

Sorry for the newb question, but what is the bitcoin contract system?

1 and 2 - cartoony works for search engine aggregators not this
3 makes me feel like it's a low traffic news site or some such

5 I like this one

I agree with darbsllim. Number 5 is the best of the bunch.

Number 4 is well done, but not properly fitting.

Number 5 is crap, but it works.

I think you need to improve number 5, or change number 4 to be more fitting.

Hey, can you sell your shares on GLBSE? Please??? I liked the idea so much I want to buy part of your company! Although so far I am not sure if doing that is good idea (someone argue in another topic that investing is stupid with a deflationary currency... but most of my assets right, and I mean total assets, including material and tangible things I own in the non-virtual world, are GLBSE stuff)

Wich kind of jobs will you offer? Is it just a network connecting a microjob market or are you going to make contracts in order to provide jobs ( eg. solving captcha or doing surveys)?

@darbsllim
Sorry for the newb question, but what is the bitcoin contract system?

According to the Wiki (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Contracts (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Contracts)):

"There are two general patterns for safely creating contracts:
Transactions are passed around outside of the P2P network, in partially complete or invalid forms.
Two transactions are used: one (the contract) is created and signed but not broadcast right away. Instead the other transaction (the payment) is broadcast after the contract is agreed to lock in the money, and then the contract is broadcast.

This is to ensure people always know what they are agreeing to.

Every transaction can have a lock time associated with it. This allows the transaction to be pending and replaceable until an agreed upon future time, specified either as a block index or as a timestamp."

While this is not a complete alternative to escrow, it does open up interesting payment possibilities. Just thought you might want to look into it in case it's relevant to your business model.

Hey everyone thanks for the votes on the logo roughs - I'm surprised everyone likes number 5!

I like the coin from number 3 mixed with the look of number 4 - we're going for a 'fun' vibe, I find number 5 seems a little too 1998

garyrowe, we're going to be launching the business acting as an escrow between parties to start with, if we see the value in the contract system after launch (if enough demand is there) we may look at that as an alternative.

Wow thanks for the props!

We're actually too busy with the Startup to learn about selling shares on GLBSE =\ It sounds like a great concept for people who need funds.

We need BTC investors, not USD investors - does GLBSE help with finding BTC investors?

Thanks!

Yes, shares on GLBSE are sold and traded for BTC.

How many shares are people interested in buying @ what BTC price?

Just gauging if it's worth setting it up.

We were looking for a 10,000 bitcoin investment or 10% of the company, so lets say 10,000 shares @ 1 BTC for 10% ownership of the company.

Would we have anyone interested?

I would be happy to invest some BTC in this, in GLBSE or otherwise.
I also had the same idea, didn't develop it fast enough though, and won't have the time needed to make it a reality.

If you're interested you can check out the vision/spec docs I prepared at the time, maybe you'll find something useful (I had some ideas about distribution and dispute resolution).

https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B-4jU8zZGkl6Mjk3ZjlmMGMtOTE3Ni00ODE4LWE0YmMtMzhlNzZhMDBhNDMw&hl=en

In any case, good luck - I signed up, can't wait to use it.

Wow I didn't read all of your docs, but you sure had a lot of info there.

Maybe we could have you on board to help us out in some capacity.

We'll be launching today.

You might have more success with raising money in several smaller financing rounds. For investors, trust would be higher, more data would be available and lower risk.

Thanks for the detailed response, you sound pretty sophisticated, what do you do in the real world?

I use an old, low clearance password for these sorts of sites. With all these BTC sites popping up, I suggest others do the same. In other words, use an old password for these service sites, and a brand spanking new one that changes for your online banking.

erm, the passwords are not stored in cleartext...they are encrypted, then when you request your password it is decrypted and given to you through the email that you signed up with.

That's not better... They need to be hashed and salted. The encryption key has to be stored somewhere and can be obtained.
